--------------------------- Charles Delbert Almond Birth Jul 23, 1932 Death Jun 28, 2017 Charles Delbert Almond, 84, of DeWitt, Ark., departed his earthly life on June 28, 2017. Delbert was born July 23, 1932 to parents Charles Edward Almond and Cleta Nichols Almond Holbert. Delbert graduated from DeWitt High School and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was a member of American Legion Post 158. After service to his country, Delbert married the love of his life Faye Fread Almond; and had a long-tenured career with Black, Inc., where he began working in the warehouse of L.A. Black Rice Mill and moved up in the company working as a bookkeeper and eventually became the office manager until his retirement. Delbert was a faithful, lifetime elder of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school, served as Chairman of the board and Choir Leader. Delbert always enjoyed revivals, fellowship suppers and the Fifth Sunday music services Pleasant Grove shared with Point DeLuce/Prairie Union Methodist Church. Delbert was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Melvin Almond and step-brother Billy Wayne Holbert. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Faye Fread Almond; children, Debra Almond Connelly (Jerry) and Michael Almond (Alyson); grandchildren, Hannah Wright, Hunter Almond and Rebecca Almond; and sister, Charlene Butler. Visitation will be Friday, June 30th from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Essex Funeral Home in DeWitt, Ark., with funeral service to be held 2 p.m. Saturday, July 1st at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church and burial to follow at Cedarcrest Cemetery in DeWitt, Ark.
