Batey Eloise mach oper F h 361 Failing

The above directory listing was probably the last record with her maiden name,
because in February that year she married Wesley Gray. The data for the
directory was likely already gathered and in preparation before the marriage
in February 1920.

Spouse Eloise F Batey
Marriage 9 Feb 1920 Clark County

I have not found any additional record for them. At some point before 1930,
Wesley and Eloise divorced or she died. No death recrod has been found for
Eloise. In the 1930 census, Wesley's daugher Margaret, reported as 8 years
old, is probably the daughter of Eloise F Batey Gray. In 1930, Wesley was
married to Agnes Dow.

Notes for Barbara Lucille BATTLES

"Joseph Benjamin Christian, Jr. and his wife Catherine [Smith] are buried in
the Ashland Cemetery in Pittsburg County, Oklahoma. The Findagrave website has
a photo of their headstone and biographies. My mother, Barbara Lucille Battles
(1920), was Mineola Christian Battles' daughter and before she passed in 2014
she was able to recall her grandfather's name as 'Joe B.'"
-- Keith Farris, Ancestry messaging to Orville Boyd Jenkins 09 February 2017

Lucille was reported in the 1930 census with her parents and several siblings
at the age of 3. The family was living in Pittsburg County, Oklahoma, where
Lucille's paretns were married. They are in the Kiowa Township. Lucille and
her father George, and all her siblings are reported as Indians, while her
mother Minnie Christian is reported as White.

In the 1940 census, we find the family is now living in Stephens County
(Marlow-Duncan area). All the Battles family members were reported in that
census as White, while in 1930 they had been Indian. We find this with many
Indian families in the Chickasaw, Choctaw and Creek Nations. They gradually
became part of the general population stream as "White."

William married Emily Caroline Foster abotu 1778. The 1900 census reports they
had been married 22 years then. Thier first child was Edward, who was born
about 1878. the 1900 census reported his birth datre as April 1880, but other
indications say the year was 1879. Dates on their daughter Mattie's grave
reports her birth in 1879, but in the 1900 census she was reproted as only 18
years old. and born in Dec 1881. Birth dates on the 1900 census were often
wrong. I have also found dates on many graves are wrong also.
