The child whose name looks like Siver must be the same child called Sybil in
the 1910 census, when the widowed Mary Christian appears in Abilene, Texas
with her children. We know Mary's daughter Ruby married Walter Watson in
Abilene. Walter registered for the WWI draft in Abilene, reporting a wife and
2 children. They are all later in Phoenix, Arizona. No name for Ruby appears
in the 1900, where she appears as a son named Reuben. The daughter names
Siver is 5 in 1900. In 1910 Ruby is reported as 17, making birth about 1893,
matching Reuben.

Howard on the 1900 census list matches Samuel in the 1880 census. Howard is
also later in the family group in Phoenix. The report of children born and
living shows one child has died. This child appears in a Find a Grave
memorial and in some genealogies as Emma J, born 1883 and died 1888.

Mary's husband Bartley died in 1904. Mary is a widowed head of household in
the 1910 census enumeration.

1910 Federal Census, Taylor County, Texas, 22 April, Abilene Ward 1, District

Until I found the 1910 census, which was diligently hiding from me, I thought
"Siver" must somehow be Ruby Lee shown in the genealogies. But Ruby and Sybil
are both listed in the 1910 census. Due to the phonetic similarity of Siver
to Sybil, this clarified that name in the 1900 census as Sybil. Further
comparisons revealed that Reuben, the son of 1900, matched Ruby in 1910 and
later. So in 1900 Reuben was Ruby, and Siver was Sybil.

Genealogies I have seen have only Ruby Lee. And all genealogies I have seen
lack the 1910 census for this family. So I think they have also combined
"Siver" and Ruby Lee, leaving out Sybil. Many reference only 1 census, so
they do not have the whole picture. I have not found Sybil after 1910.

In 1910, the child reported in the Ancestry transcription as daughter Corah
matches the son Carl of 1900. The actual name written there is Carl. The
transcription is wrong, but that child was reported as a daughter. I have
confirmed Carl in later records as George Carl. It looks like a similar thing
happened in reverse with Ruby, who matches the Son "Reuben" reported in the
1900 census.

In 1920 the family shows up in Phoenix, Arizona. Mary Frances and her younger
children William and Mary are in a household enumerated with her oldest son
Howard as Head of the Household. They are living in an area called Alkire,
while her daughter Mary Watson is in Phoenix proper.

1920 Federal Census, Maricopa County, Arizona, 15 January, Alkire Precinct 56,

From the birth information for Mary and Effie we can tell they moved to
Phoenix between 1916 and 1920. It was actually between 1918 and 1920, because
Ruby's husband Walter registered for the WWI draft in Abilene, Texas while
they were still living there. In 1910, Ruby was in Abilene with her mother
and siblings. By 1918, they had two children reported as dependents by Walter
in his registration.

Some genealogies report that Mary Frances died in Phoenix in 1934, but I have
seen none that have any documentation. I have not found a record.

Notes for Stella May BELVIN

Oklahoma, County Marriage Records, 1890-1995

Stella Belvin, Age 19 (born abt 1901)
Both Residencts of Pauls Valley, Garvin County, Oklahoma
License issued 13 August 1920
Marriage 14 August 1920 Garvin County, Oklahoma, USA
Ceremony conducted by J Oscar Peterson, Ordained Elder of the Methodist
Episcopal Church, South in Pauls Valley
Witnesses Orel Hulsey and Lona Richardson
Recorded 16 August 1920 Garvin County Marriage Book, p 320

According to family sources, Stella was only 13 years old, but the marriage
record reports her age as 19. The marriage record was recorded the day Coy
was killed. Coy was shot dead by Stella's father because he married her
against her family's wishes.

If Stella was 13 years old, as her husband's Finda Grave reports, she was
born about 1907. However, that birth date reported on her grave, her Social
Security records and in famiy genealogies as 6 September 1905. so she was
about a month short of 15 years old when she married the ill-fated Coy Green
in August 1920.

Notes for Angela BENAVIDES

Angela does not appear with the Benavides family in any of the census records
for them. Angela was a daughter of Feliciana and Manuel Benavides, but at
some point she was given to her godparents, Beatrice and Daniel Bermudez, who
raised her in meager circumstances.

"Yes mom's maiden name was Benavides. Her mom was Feliciana. She must of
married because I knew her name as Feliciana Camacho. Yes, my grandfather on
mom's side was Manuel Benavides. I'm requesting my original birth certificate
from Seattle, but because I was adopted it might take awhile. My adoptive
mother was also a relative, Angela Benavides, my mother's sister."

Angela Benavides -- I was told by her that she was stolen or given to her
godparents and they lived in a train caboose. Made their way to San Francisco
and stayed there the rest of her life. All I know is a last name "Bermudez."
They arranged for Angela to marry Filberto Felix. He was from Mexico. ...

No one ever talked about her life with her real mother, Feliciana. Growing up
I knew Robert (my uncle) and Angela and him were close, then I came into the
picture. She adopted me because my mother went to prison.

I was told different stories about how Angela got me!

The Bermudez did formally adopt Angela. Adoption records have not been found,
but we note that Angela's California Death Record (see at the end of these
notes) gives the names of her parents as mother's maiden name Cantu and
father's name surname Bermudez.

Her Social Security Application has her Bermudez name, which she later changed
to her married name. She also signed up for Social Security under the form of
her name that is usually a nickname, Angelita (Angie). One of the city
directories listing her and her husband Filbert Felix, listed her as Angelita.

Dolores is my mom's sister. I remember her saying that I had an aunt Dolores
in Kansas City.

The only thing I know about Angie (Angela Benavides-Felix) is that Feliciana
did not bring her up. She gave her to Angie's godparents. Bermudez was that
last name. Angie was never allowed to go to school and they lived in a
railroad box car. They moved to San Francisco.

Angie married Filberto Flores Felix from Mexico. They lived in San Francisco
at 848 Goettingen St. San Francisco. [This is the address for Angela on the
birth document for Paula.]

I think the godparents names were Beatrice & Daniel Bermudez(s). They both
worked at St. Joseph's church.

In San Francisco when I was young. I think Angela died in the 90's sometime.
-- Paula Juarez, Facebook Messaging to Orville Boyd Jenkins, 1 February 2019
------------------

Angela's Social Security record has the Spanish spelling of her mother's name:
"Father Daniel Bermudez, Mother Beatriz Cantu." Paula's comment above
provides a context for some comments she had made the day before about her
adoptive mother Angela Felix.

------------------
Writing to you about the family in Texas I started thinking about "Angela
Felix" my adopted mother. How sad she must of felt all those years. Never
knowing if her family loved her. She was a good mom.

I live in Stockton, California, not too far from San Francisco, so I was
thinking I should go and visit her grave. I never gave it any thought before.
I was focused on trying to find my dad so my kids could have some kind of
family tree.

I want you to know that I appreciate all the research and work you have been
doing.

Paula was born in 1949 and was still with her parents in 1951, when she was
baptized in a church in San Francisco. At her baptism, Angie and Felix were
Paula's godparents.

"Angela and Filbert had other children Filbert Jr, Manuel and Delores Felix
all in San Francisco. The address were they lived was 848 Goettingen st San
Francisco. Angela and Filbert passed on. I know that Bermudez "Daniel" (I
think that was his name) worked at St. Joseph's church for as long as I can
remember. Him in the church and her in the rectory."

Burial was in the neighboring county of San Mateo, because all the operating
cemeteries within San Francisco County are full, or "defunct" as Find a
Grave's cemetery listing for the county puts it. Several grave memorials in
the Colma Cemetery note that the date there may be the date of interment.
This is the case with Angela's. No birth date is given. But the date given
for death/burial in 1 March 1996, matching burial for the known date of death
from other records, 26 February 1996.

All the fiindings indicated Jeanne's full name was Jeanne Aurora Benavides. A
query to her daughter Paula Juarez confirmed she knew Benavides as her
mother's maiden name. The Social Security Application records above gave me
Jeanne's parents' names. Searches quickly found some detail on her mother
Feliciana Trevino Camacho, and a brother Roberto Benavides. I had trouble
turning up anything definitive on Feliciana's husband Manuel, since Manuel
Benavides is such a common name in all the American Spanish-speaking domains.
He matches a record in Puerto Rico, where Manuel Rodriguez Benavides, appears
with his family in a census.

My adoptive
mother was also a relative 'Angela Benavides' my mother's sister. After mom
died I met a cousin in Danville, California. ... But I took mom's ashes to
Texas when she died to be buried with her grandfather near Thurber, Texas.
Met 2 other cousins there. Lived in the same house they lived when my mom was
young. They took me to the place Gregorio had worked when they were little.
... Since Angie "Angela" was my adopted mom I knew Robert Benavides and knew
an uncle Jessie Camacho one of my grandmother's son from another marriage."
-- Paula Juarez, email to Orville Boyd Jenkins, 28 January 2019

No burial place has been found for Jeanne's ashes, nor any marker of her
death, in any area around Thurber or Erath County or neighboring Texas
counties. There are no Treviño bnurials in any listings for Erath County or
neighboring counties.

In 1943, Jeanne was reported as "Jean" with her husband Rama Terry in the San
Francisco City Directory. No marriage record has been found for Rama and
Jean.

------------------------------
I have a baptism record in San Francisco in 1951 for me with my fathers name
Rama Terry and my mother Jeanne Aurora Terry. The only problem is that I was
adopted, so my birth certificate shows Rama and Jeanne as my godparents and my
adopted parents as my parents.

The fact was never hidden from me that I was adopted, but nobody would talk of
my father, not even my mother “Jeanne.” I met her when I was 20, and went
to live with her for a time, but she would only make reference to him ever so
often. I knew I had two ½ brothers: Kenneth Paul and Billy Jack.

I was born on my brothers Kenneth Paul’s birthday Feb. 10th, but never met
them. That there was an aunt Quida [Ouida], then I found an old photo of my
mom taken in Oklahoma in 1951 (you see the car license plates, but she
couldn’t tell me about. I found it after she died.) I was born in Seattle
Washington in 1949 and my mother mentioned one time that we lived in Seattle,
Queen Hill.

My mother has since died in 2005 but stayed with the last name “Terry.”

------------------------------

Paula indicated in personal communication that the actual reason her aunt
adopted her was that her mother had to go to prison. But even that is
unclear. She says she was told other stories about how her adoptive parents
got her. The reason why Jeanne might have been in prison is unclear. No
record of such an event has been found. Angela's relationship in the family
is a bit unclear also.

"No one ever talked about her life with her real mother, Feliciana. Growing
up I knew Robert (my uncle) and Angela and him were close, then I came into
the picture. She adopted me because my mother went to prison. I was told
different stories about how Angela got me!"

Searches easily found records on Feliciana Trevino Camacho. Definitive
information on Feliciana's husband Manuel was harder to be certain about,
since Manuel Benavides is such a common name in all the American
Spanish-speaking domains.

But one record in Puerto Rico stands out from the others with all details
matching what we do know of Manuel. The middle initial R in his children's
Social security records was a helpful distinguishing feature. A Puerto Rico
census reports a child named Manuel Rodriguez (y) Benavides.
