Notes for Eliza Jane BLACKWELL

The Hancock genealogy provides details about James Walter's first wife Eliza
Blackwell. No diocumentation is provided, except the 1900 census in Grayson
County, Texas, not far away. But the details fit other facts from various
sources. Helpful here is the report that they were married in Hunt County,
Texas, but the death occurred in Arkansas, matching the report by other
genealogies and this one of the birth of children Lee and Emmet in Arkansas.

The place of birth of the children's parents indicates that George's father is
different from the father of James, Dora and Viola. George's father was
reported born in Tennessee, but the others' father was born in Georgia. But
the last name of all of them is Chappel. If that is correct, it would mean
that Nancy was married to two men named Chapel.

Notes for John Bailey BLAIR

"Nancy Ellen Strange, my great great grandmother, was the daughter of John
Yancy Strange and Rebeccah VanZant Strange. He was born in Halifax, Virginia
in 1795. He was the son of William Strange and Sally Walker. Nancy Ellen
married John Bailey Blair, Jr. my great great grandfather. My great great
great grandfather was John Bailey Blair, Sr. He married Margaret Strange who
was born in1785 in Evansville, Indiana. Her father was Edward M. Pace. Her
mother was Susannah Johnson. Both Nancy Ellen Strange Blair and Margaret
Strange Pace Blair were buried Durant, Bryan, Oklahoma. My thought is both
were of native American ancestry. My great grandmother was Sarah Blair
Nichols. Also all of my family listed lived in Edmonson County, Kentucky."

That John Blair was married to Mary Amelia White Blair (1750 - 1787). He was
originally from New Jersey. His grave memorial on Find a Grave (linked on

-------------------
To the best of my knowledge, Sarah Blake York did not have a middle name.
However, their youngest daughter was named Sarah Virginia York.

Josiah was born in Washington County, Tennessee, and died 26 May 1879 Polk
County, Georgia. He is buried in the Yorkville Community Cemetery, Yorkvilee,
Georgia.

Sarah and Josiah had 11 children 5 sons and 6 daughters - all 5 of their sons
fought in the Civil War and all served mostly in Company A, Georgia 1st
Calvary.

I have removed William York as the oldest child of Captain William York since
the data I have supports a man whose DNA has been traced to the 'other' York
family in Randolph County, North Carolina. Surely Captain William York had a
son, William, but if he did, he died young, since I cannot find any
information about him.
-- Confidential Source, Geneanet Messaging to Orville Boyd Jenkins 27 March
2019
-------------------

-------------------
Sarah's family was not from Maryland as previously thought, the Blake family
originated in Isle of Wight, Virginia when the first emigrant, Thomas Blake
(1644 - 1707) migrated from probably England. The family settled first in
Fairfield County, South Carolina before her father, Thomas (1776 - 1855)
migrated to North Carolina, then Tennessee. Thomas' mother Leah Phaneul Ann
'Fanny' Hornsby (1743 - 1779) was born in Jamestown, James County, Virginia,
and the firstborn generation of Americans.

Sarah and five siblings grew up in a broken home after their father took a
second wife and their mother left to live with family in Kentucky. Elizabeth
Owen Blake (1776 - 1833) was from a family of Quakers who were among those who
founded and settled in Wrightsboro, McDuffie County, Georgia, although
Elizabeth married Thomas, probably in North Carolina before the move to
Georgia. Her father, Ephraim (1738 - 1785), was firstborn generation American
since his father, John (1715 - 1780) was born in Wales. Mary Cooper Owen (1741
- 1785),

Elizabeth's mother came from a family that also originated in Isle of Wight
County, Virginia, although the name of the first emigrant is unknown, but
probably William Cooper who died 1762 in Southampton County, Virginia.
Supposedly, late in life, in order to legitimize his eleven youngest children
by his second wife, Thomas joined the Mormon Church, which, at that time,
believed in bigamous marriages.

I have not seen any proof of this confirmation; however, since there were
Mormons in both families, Owen and Blake, I believe this information is
possibly correct. It should be noted that Sarah's brother, Dr. Larkin Hornsby
Blake (1807 - 1870) was the grandfather of Mary Betty Blake (1879 - 1944),
wife of famed Western comedian, William Penn Adair 'Will' Rogers (1879 -
1935).
