This birth date and repsective age is what began appearing late in Charles' life. the 1900 censusw reports his birth date as May 1834. Early census afes, however, place his birth about 1840. In 1850 he si reported to be 10 yeares old. If he had been borni n 1934, he would have been 16 years old. It is hard to believe his parents could have confused a 10-year-old with a 17-year-old! Charles' memory, or someone's record keeping, shifted to an earlier date and older age later in his life. The date of death in the official record is 3 days earlier, in Hunt County, the county south of Fannin County. I suspect that the place of residence was Fannin County, and the date of 19 April is perhaps the date of burial rather than the date of death. Charlie may have died in a hospital in Greenville, in Hunt County. The location of Bartley Woods is not reported as one of the towns or cities, or as an unincorporated location in Fannin County. I confirmed that this is the name of a cemetery, not a town. This makes it more likely that the date reported above as the death date is the burial date. He and his wife Elizabeth are both buried in Bartley-Woods Cemetery, also called Providence Cemetery. This cemetery is just south of Windom, Texas. This town is also reported as Charlie's P O address in his 1914 application for a Confederate veteran's pension. Perhaps Grober was her residence at the time of death. She could have been in a hospital in Lubbock when she died. But Fannin County is a long way from Lubbock. The following genealogy also has the burial place as the place of death for Charles, as do several others. Acuff is likely the place of residence at the time of death, which makes sense with the death record in Lubbock. -------------------------------------- 6. There is no Gannin County in Texas. They might have meant Fannin, but Acuff is in Lubbock County, not Fannin. The Gober Cemetery is in Gober, an unincorporated place in Fannin County. Of course these genealogies have no documentation of their facts. There are some facts and insights in these genealogies, like the full names of the individuals, but it is obvious the compilers did not check out their facts, so we must use these with caution, taking their facts as clues to find other sources. Some compilers are more creful than others. If this birth date is correct, in 1860 her parents reported her as an 8 year old when she was actually 13 years old. This is not a mistake parents are likely to make. The year of birth as 1948 appers to be a transcription error. It looks like the compiler of the Cemetery list has put the year of birth for Jeremiah with the date ofbirth for Desdemona. This is confirmed in a couple of careful genealogies, which report Desdemona's birth date as 7 Mar 1853. Althought the 1870 census reports that Sarah is 11, and thus would have been born in about 1859, there is no corresponding child in the 1860 census. One might think she was the same child as 2-year-old Lucinda in 1860. Sarah's age in the 1870 census indicates she was born before the last census. However, Lucinda's is also reported in the 1870 census, as being age 12, and thus born abotu 1858. This leaves us with no report for Sarah in the household in 1860. 1860 Federal Census, Itawamba County, Mississippi, 14 August, P O Campbellton, p 150, Hse/Fam #985 George W Boren 42 M Farmer $3200 Real Estate $1340 Personal Born Tennessee [born abt 1818] Rachael Boren 41 F b Tenn [born abt 1819] Charles M Boren 21 M b Tenn [born abt 1839] Margaret E Boren 18 F b Tenn [born abt 1842] Nancy A Boren 17 F b Tenn [born abt 1843] Ann Eliza Boren 13 F b Tenn [born abt 1847] Theopholus Boren 12 M b Miss [born abt 1848] Destemone Boren 8 F b Tenn [born abt 1852] Thomas J Boren 4 M b Miss [born abt 1856] Lucinda Boren 2 F b Tenn [born abt 1858] 1870 Federal Census, Lee County, Mississippi, [no date] August, PO Baldwyn, p 54, Hse/Fam #115 Boren, Wash 57 M W Farmer $2000 Real Estate Value $550 Personal b TN [born abt 1813] Boren, Rachael 53 F W Keeping House b Tennessee [born abt 1817] Boren, Nancy 24 F W b Miss [born abt 1846] Boren, Desdemona 17 F W School b Miss [born abt 1853] Boren, Thomas 13 M W School b Miss [born abt 1857] Boren, Lucinda 12 F W School b Miss [born abt 1858] Boren, Wash 7 M W b Miss [born abt 1863] Boren, Peter 14 M W School b Miss [born abt 1856] Boren, Sarah 11 F W School b Miss [born abt 1859]
