in Virginia. The death certificate also reports that he himself was born in
Haskell Co TX, but in the 1870 census, he was with his family in Coffee

The name of Martha Ann Vaulx in this marriage record, matches the name known
in genealogies of John Henry Brewer's wife Martha Ann Arthur. Several, in
fact, cite and attach this recrod for Mary Ann Arthur. John's name here is
Henry J Brewer, but otherwise this matches them. The marriage record is in
Rutherford County, while most records for them aer in Coffee County,
Tennessee. Rutherford and Coffee are adjacent counties.

Note that the genealogy above reports that John was born in Rockingham County,
Virginia, but his son, and John Henry was born in Coffee County, Tennessee.
However, in the 1850 census, the whole family is still in the original place
in Rockingham County, Virginia, and John, age 15, is reported born in
Virginia, as is every child so far. John Henry I (b 1832-1835), then, was
born in Rockingham County, Virginia. John Henry I's son was born in Coffee
County, Tennessee, in 1863 (age 7 in the 1870 census in that county).

One researcher comments on John's entry on the 1860 census that his name is
John W Brewer.

"John W Brewer: I believe this to be John BREWER, listed in household with
daughter Eliza Brewer McDaniel."
-- Comment on Ancestry.com, "bighollytree991," 25 October 2008

At some point after the 1850 cenrsus, John Brewer moved the family to
Tenenssee. His wife Elizabeth also died some time before this 1860 census in
Tennessee. We lack information to determine whether she died in Tennessee or
Virginia. We have no date of death for their move to Tennessee or Elizabeth's
death. In the 1860 census in Coffee County, Tennessee, John is reported
living in the household of his daughter Eliza McDaniel.

Several genealogies report a 1870 census record in Vermillion County, Indiana
as being for our John and Elizabeth Dolton Brewer. John is reported age 77
and Elizabeth age 70. They were both born in Virginia, which also matches
earlier reports. However, these same genealogies also report that Elizabeth
died about 1860, and we do find John without a wife in that 1860 census. He
is reported living with his daughter Eliza McDaniel and her famliy in Coffee
County, Tennessee. It is a stretch to think a 65-year old couple would up and
move thta far north to Vermillion County, Indiana before the 1870 census.
Further, in that household is a younger person named Jane Brewer, age 30 and
thus born about 1840. There was no child matching this Jane reported among
the children of John and Elizabeth in Rockingham, Virginia, in the 1850 census.

Another daughter was born in 1882, who was also already out of the home before

Lucinda "Pink" BREWER

Birth 26 JAN 1852 in Pike County, Arkansas to Texas
Death 10 AUG 1932 in Age: 80 Weleetka, Okfuskee Co., Oklahoma
[It appears Weleetka is the place of burial, but death actually occurred in
Pharaoh. -- OBJ]

As for the Native American aspect of the Lovin family, we have no evidence
that Benjamin Franklin Lovin B. F. or his family were Native American. It is
possible that Isabella Wigley was but we have found no evidence in Mississippi
records. Our research has been on Lucinda Pink Brewer, B. F.'s 2nd wife, who
we are 99% certain was Indian. We have no actual evidence, only
circumstantial evidence (her facial features, the fact that her father
migrated to Pike County, Arkansas from Tennessee at the same time many
Cherokee Indians were doing so, and the fact that her children referred to the
family as 'Black Dutch' which is a 19th century euphemism for Native Americans
and persons of black ancestry). Other than these circumstantial clues, we
have not yet found hard evidence.

We have reason to believe that she is either full or part Native American. She
had a sister named Lieu (or Lou) and possibly a brother named Oscar.

"Pink" Brewer married Benjamin Franklin Lovin and had children named: Allie,

B. F. Lovin was a minister and they lived at different times in Arkansas,

Notes for Reese BREWER

This record in the name recorded a Rice Brewer is probakly for the Reese Brewer
who died about 1806 in Dickson County, Tennessee. A problem with this being
the correct record for this person, is that the known birth year of their
first child Besey is 1766. This would mean that Reese and his wife Sallay
were only about 15 when they marired. That does not seem likely.

From the research of Erik Christensen:
----------------
Hi Orville,

I recently added Betsey Brewer (circa 1767 - 1806), wife of Drury Christian,
to my tree and came across her in your well-researched tree as well. Betsey
was the daughter of Reese (often spelled Reace, Rece, etc.) Brewer and Sally
(maiden name unknown). Our line descends from Reese and Sally's son Sterling
Brewer. We had long suspected that Sterling's father was Reese, but I didn't
know that for sure until today, when I finally found his Will in Dickson
County, Tennessee. The Will can be found in my Gallery for Reese Brewer.

In the Will, you can see that Reese leaves one dollar to his son-in-law D
Christian. I have found a marriage record for Drury Christian and Betsey
Brewer in Warren County, North Carolina, which is where Reese and his family
lived for several years. The bondsman for her wedding was Allen Brewer, who I
know from another record was a son of Reese Brewer. I believe Betsey had
likely died before 1806, since Reese leaves property to another living
daughter, Jean Thomas, and lists her by name, rather than his "Thomas"
son-in-law.

Reese likely descends from John Brewer who died around 1780 in Hertford
County, North Carolina.

Notes for Sterling BREWER

The ages and places of birth of the children in this family tell us they moved

was born in Tennessee in 1887. In this WWI registration, Robert reported his
residence as Wagoner County, Oklahoma, the location of his father's

Notes for William T BREWER

In the 1860 census, William's mother Susan Brewer is a widow, and in is the
household of Caroline Hays, who appears to be her mother. I note that some
genealogies who have sparse information and some incorrect information, do
have William's mother named as Susan Hays, which gave me the clue to who
Caroline was.

The ages and places of birth of their children tell us they moved from Wayne
County, Tennessee to Indian Territory about 1888. The 1918 draft registration
of William and Molly's son William Robert Brewer reports that he was born in
Tennessee in 1887. Their presence in Tennessee at that time is consistent
with the other information about the family and their residences. In his WWI
registraiton, Robert reported his residence as Wagoner County, Oklahoma, the
location of his father's enumeration.

In 1910, widower William is still living in Cherokee Nation, in what is now
Wagoner County, Oklahoma, the county north of Muskogee County where his
daughter Stella (Estelle or Estella) Jackson is living. The age of the last
daughter tells us that William's wife Molly (Mary) died in or after 1902.

Note that here William's father is reported as born in Tennessee, not Alabama
as in previous censuses. One census record I found for a Henry and Susannah,
which appeared to be William's parents, also reports Henry born in Tennessee.
Susannah matches the name Susan reported for his mother in the other censuses.
Genealogies with details and photos confirm that William's father was Henry J
Brewer. These genealogies, however, report his mother's name as Susan H Hays,
not Susannah.
