John is reported age 77 and Elizabeth age 70. They were both born in Virginia, which also matches earlier reports. However, these same genealogies also report that Elizabeth died about 1860, and we do find John without a wife in that 1860 census. He is reported living with his daughter Eliza McDaniel and her famliy in Coffee County, Tennessee. It is a stretch to think a 65-year old couple would up and move thta far north to Vermillion County, Indiana before the 1870 census. Further, in that household is a younger person named Jane Brewer, age 30 and thus born about 1840. There was no child matching this Jane reported among the children of John and Elizabeth in Rockingham, Virginia, in the 1850 census.

This record in the name recorded a Rice Brewer is probakly for the Reese Brewer who died about 1806 in Dickson County, Tennessee. A problem with this being the correct record for this person, is that the known birth year of their first child Besey is 1766. This would mean that Reese and his wife Sallay were only about 15 when they marired. That does not seem likely. In the 1860 census, William's mother Susan Brewer is a widow, and in is the household of Caroline Hays, who appears to be her mother. I note that some genealogies who have sparse information and some incorrect information, do have William's mother named as Susan Hays, which gave me the clue to who Caroline was. 1860 Federal Census, Wayne County, Tennessee, 30 June, PO Cypress Inn, page 67 (scan 269), Hse/Fam #449 Caroline Hays 58 F --- $1200 Real Estate $600 Personal b Virginia Susan Brewer 30 F b Tenn [b abt 1830] Hettie J Brewer 9 F b Tenn [b abt 1851] Nellie C Brewer 8 F b Tenn [b abt 1852] William T Brewer 3 M b Tenn [b abt 1857] Eliza J Czfurt (?) 12 F b Tenn [b abt 1848] By 1880, William's mother has married a widower named John Berry. 1880 Federal Census, Wayne County, Tennessee, 2 June, Civil District 10, Enumeration District 170, page 1 (scan 89A), Hse/Fam #239 Berry, John W M 50 Farmer TN AL TN Berry, Susan W F 19 Wife TN NC TN Berry, Eliza A W F 17 Dau TN AL TN Berry, James E W M 15 Son TN -- TN Berry, Joseph W M 12 Son TN -- TN Berry, Cally W F 11 Dau TN -- TN Berry, David W M 8 Son TN -- TN Brewer, W T W M Stepson 22 TN -- TN 1900 Federal Census, Cherokee Nation, Indian Territory, 21 June, Township 15, District 40, page 9B, Hse/Fam #173 Brewer, William Head W M Aug 1857 42 Married 20 yrs TN AL TN Farmer Rents Brewer, Molly Wife W F Oct 1864 35 Married 20 yrs 9 child/6 living AL TN AL Brewer, Leonard Son W M Mar 1882 18 Single TN AL AL Farm Laborer Brewer, Estelle Dau W F Sept 1883 16 Single TN TN AL Brewer, William Son W F Oct 1887 12 TN TN AL Brewer, Charley Son W F Nov 1889 10 TN TN AL Brewer, Vera Dau W F July 1897 2 Indian Terr TN AL Brewer, Myrtle Dau W F Mar 1900 2mos Indian Terr TN AL The ages and places of birth of their children tell us they moved from Wayne County, Tennessee to Indian Territory about 1888. The 1918 draft registration of William and Molly's son William Robert Brewer reports that he was born in Tennessee in 1887. Their presence in Tennessee at that time is consistent with the other information about the family and their residences. In his WWI registraiton, Robert reported his residence as Wagoner County, Oklahoma, the location of his father's enumeration. In 1910, widower William is still living in Cherokee Nation, in what is now Wagoner County, Oklahoma, the county north of Muskogee County where his daughter Stella (Estelle or Estella) Jackson is living. The age of the last daughter tells us that William's wife Molly (Mary) died in or after 1902. 1910 Federal Census, Wagoner County, Oklahoma, 22 April, Blue Mound Township, District 235, page 2B, Hse/Fam #35 Brewer, William T Head M W 52 Widowed TN AL TN Farmer Rents Brewer, Charley Son M W 20 Single TN TN AL Brewer, Ethel Dau F W 12 OK TN AL Brewer, Myrtel Dau F W 10 OK TN AL Brewer, Thelma Dau F W 8 OK TN AL 1920 Federal Census, Wagoner County, Oklahoma, 17 January, Blue Mound, District 170, page 7A, Hse/Fam #103 Brewer, William T Head Rents M W 63 Married TN AL TN Farmer Brewer, Ellie Wife F W 48 Married KS US US Brewer, Thelma Dau F W 18 Single OK TN AL Cooper, Elmer Stepson M W 15 Single AR MO KS 1930 Federal Census, Wagoner County, Oklahoma, [no date], Blue Mound Township, District 3, page 3B, Hse #62, Fam #64 Brewer, William T Head Rents M W 72 Married at 22 TN TN TN Brewer, Ella F Wife F W 59 Married at 16 KS MO IN Note that here William's father is reported as born in Tennessee, not Alabama as in previous censuses. One census record I found for a Henry and Susannah, which appeared to be William's parents, also reports Henry born in Tennessee. Susannah matches the name Susan reported for his mother in the other censuses. Genealogies with details and photos confirm that William's father was Henry J Brewer.
