Children Arkadelpha Moor[e]

After his death, Robert's widow Izella married William Moore, a widower living
nearby. In the 1870 household, we see Izella's daughter Mary Brown and her
Moore chidlren. Her next child was Calvin Moore, age 4, so born about 1866.
This would mean Izella Kidwell Brown married William Moore about 1865.
Izella's Military widow pension application reports they married in 1864.
This would put the death of Robert Brown about 1864 or earlier, after the
birth of their daughter Sarah Mary Jane Brown on 2 August 1861.

Notes for Sarah A BROWN

Sallie A. Brown
Birth Aug 1848 in Mississippi
Death 23 Aug 1881 in Jonestown, Coahoma, Mississippi
Parents:
Col. James Brown 1796 - 1880
Mary Ann Strong 1807 - 1890
Marriage to George Washington Butler 16 Jun 1869 Memphis, Tennessee
-- Bailey Family, http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/8950655/person/1856755721

Sallie is the common nickname for Sarah. In that era, the common nickname was
often used for records. It is possible that her real given name was actually
Sallie, not Sarah. But the fact that one daughter was also named Sarah is a
strong indication that her proper name was Sarah. It is not known what the
middle initial A stood for.

Mrs S A
Wife of
G W Butler Sr
Died
Aug 23, 1881
-- Photo 12 Dec 2009 by Jack Dodson

In the 1900 census, when George is a widower with several children in the
home, the youngest child is a daughter Dixie. But she is 7 years old and her
birth date is reported as September 1883. This is two years after the date of
death of George's wife Sarah A reported on her burial monument. Jack Dodson,
a Butler researcher married to a descendant, has the Family Bible with a list
of some deaths, including that of Sallie.

The entry in the family Bible reports Sallie's death as 23 August 1888. The
date on the burial monument is an error. The current burial site, where the
marker is, was not the original burial plot. Sallie was buried on the family
land, and much later moved and the current monument put up. This indicates
that the date on the monument was either miscopied from the Bible or from some
other source, or that the engraver carved the wrong date on the monument for
the new grave.

Only three deaths are recorded. The three deaths on the page are as follows.

Notes for Sarah Mary Jane BROWN

In one marriage record collection that seems to represent James and Sarah, the
bride's name is reported as Mary Jane Brown. The Texas Marriage Index reports
the bride's name as S J Brown. One or more family genealogies has her name as
Sarah Mary Jane Brown. Most have only Sarah Jane Brown.

J M Walker
Gender Male
Marriage 14 Aug 1878 Parker, Texas
Spouse S J Brown
Source Texas Marriages, 1851-1900

In the 1870 census, her name is reported as Mary Brown. She is in the
household of William Moore, who appears to be an uncle or stepfather. The
oldest other person named Moore is Izela, age 28. It seems most likely Izela
was a widow who married widower William Moore. The next oldest is 14-year-old
James. Mary Brown, age 8, is the only other person with a different surname.
Brown could be Izela's first married name, and Mary her only child. The
younger Moore children would then be her half-siblings.

This Izela Moore is probably the reason Mary/Sarah named one of her daughters
Izella. She also named her last son Calvin Moore, age 4 in 1870. The surmise
above is indeed what we find when we look into family genealogies with more
detail and family background on Mary/Sarah Brown's parents. Genealogies tell
us that Izella Brown Moore's maiden nmae was Kidwell.

For some reason, Sarah's daughter Pearl Maude Walker is not in this Bible list
compiled by Pearl's stepmother. Pearl's death certificate reports she was
born on 25 December 1886 in Custer County, Colorado. But the 1900 census
indicates that she and Izella after her were born inTexas,. This census
reports only two children born in Colorado, the next two after Izella, Charles
and James. But James' record in 1920 reports him born also in Texas.

Notes for Winney Louise BROWN

Winny Louise Brown was the thrid wife of Ansel (Ancil) C Green. He married his
second wife, Frances Chastain in 1817. He married Winney in 1854. Her name
is spelled Winney in some records. They were married in Cass County.

Marriage Record of Ansel Green & Winny Brown

Solemnized 29 October 1854 Cass County, Gerogia by James McGinnis, Hustice of
the Peace
Recorded 20 December 1854
Cass County Marriage Book, p 47

In 1861, the name of Cass county was changed to Bartow County, for political
reasons related to the Civil War. So current indexes tend to report the
marriage as occurring in Bartow County. But the original records, kept in the
Bartow, formerly Cass, County courthouse, report the locatoin as Cass County.
