Green appears in censuses with different middle initials, Green S, Green N and
no initial.

In the 1900 census no children are in their household but they have been
married 12 years. This census reports Callie's birthday as May 1872, but the
year of death on her grave is 1871. This is a common conflict in the 1900
census birth dates. The grave has only the year of death. Lacking no other
sources, I usually favor the grave in these cases.

This census reports Green's birthday as Jan 1850, but he is not in the 1850
census. Further, the last child is his sister Nancy, who is reported as only
11 months old, So the later birthday of about 1854 makes sense.

Notes for Isabella Avilla BURRELL

The memorial of James Peter Burrell lists Isabella as one of his chidlren.

James P Burrell, Birth 1790
Germantown, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania
Death Jun. 9, 1863 Vicksburg, Warren County, Mississippi
Married Nancy Elizabeth Darby about 1815
They had 6 children:

About 1849, Isabella married John Jenkins, a family close to the Burrells in
South Carolina and Mississippi. They are living among related Jenkins-Burrell
families in Attala County, Mississippi. Isabella's husband John's identity is
uncertain. He is reported by at least one genealogy as another son of Samuel
M Jenkins, but approximate birth dates of other chidlren don't leave room for
John's reported birth in 1825.

A long list of names are given with birth dates and some marriage dates. But
the article notes that for most, no relationships are given. The first name
on the list is John James Jenkins, born April 5, 1830. The third entry
reports that John James Jenkins married Eliza L Ables December 28, 1886. They
are linked on Find a Grave.
The article later notes that this may be the same John Jenkins who first
married Isabelle. Other records show that John James Jenkins married Isabella
Avilla Burrell.

Notes for James Henry BURRELL

James P Burrell, Birth 1790
Germantown, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania
Death [Jun. 9, 1863 Vicksburg, Warren County, Mississippi]
[it seems like this date is for his son James Henry who was born in 1832. It
is thus reported by genealogies. In 1863, James P would have been 73 years
old, and surely did not fight at Vicksburg]
Married Nancy Elizabeth Darby about 1815
They had 6 children:
Mary, William Riley (1817 - 1894)
John Berry
Anne Elizabeth (1822 - 1849)
Isabella Avilla, and
James Henry

Lucinda Burell 20 F b MS [b abt 1830]
Jane Burell 5 M b MS [b abt 1845]
Elizabeth Burell 1mo M b MS [b abt July 1850]

The sequence of the census listing looks like Lucinda is James Henry's wife.
And Lucinda is the name of one of his two wives reported by some genealogies.
But note that the first child under Lucinda, either Jamie or Jane (spelled
Jame by the enumerator) is 5 years old. James Henry and Lucinda are too young
to have a child 5 years old.

The 1860 census is helpful here, because these two girls are still in the home
of James and Nancy, but James Henry and his wife are not there. And this time
the girls are given the surname of Jenkins. This helps us put them with the
proper family line and maybe their parents. Further the baby in 1850 called
Elizabeth is enumerated as Mary Jenkins in 1860.

The characteristics of these two girls match pretty closely to be the children
of James and Peter's daughter Ann Elizabeth Burell and her husband Samuel
Jenkins. The oldest girl Jane would match their daughter Jane Elizabeth,
whose birthday was October 1846. The younger one is younger than the last
child of Sam and Ann Elizabeth. Ann Elizabeth died in childbirth with their
daughter Mary Ann on 11 January 1949. But this is a problem since the
youngest child in the 1950 census above is reported as only one month old,
which would mean she was born in 1850 And the name Elizabeth for the baby
does not fit what we now from other sources. Maybe the girls are from
separate related families. At any rate we now know their surname is Jenkins
and not Burell.

According to the following genealogy, Lucinda died a little over a year after
the 1850 census.

James Henry Burel
Born in South Carolina in 1832
Father James P Burrell
Mother Nancy Darby
Born 1790. Nancy had 6 children, passed away in 1878
James Henry married Lucinda Myers
Born 1826 in Mississippi. passed away on 12 Oct 1851
and Margaret Samantha Hughes
Born 1836 in Alabama, passed away in 1863 in Mississippi [the same year James
was killed in the war?]
He passed away on 9 Jun 1863 in Vicksburg, Mississippi
-- Ancestry Trees,
http://records.ancestry.com/james_henry_burel_records.ashx?pid=67874772

If both the above marriage reports are correct, then Lucinda died the year
after the census, and James remarried some time after that.

Confederate Military records for James lack his birth date. This may be one
reason some researchers have confused him with his 73-year-old father in
identifying his military burial place.

Notes for James Peter BURRELL

"Although the exact date that James Burel and his wife, Nancy Elizabeth Darby,
arrived in Mississippi is unknown, the U. S. Census of 1850 shows they were
already living in Attala County. According to the census, nineteen Burel (then
"Burell") family members, enumerated in three separate households, were found
to be living in the Newport area of Attala County."

Elizabeth Burell1mo M b MS [b abt July 1850]

Relationships are not reported in this census. However, from some family
information in genealogies, we get a couple of clues. A couple of genealogies
report that one of James Henry's wives was Lucinda Myers. But genealogies
report that Lucinda was born in 1826, which would mean she should be about 24
in this census.

The identity of these two children is not clear.  The first one (spelled Jame;
maybe Jamie, or Jane?) was born when James Henry was about 13. So he would
not be her father. The 5 year old matches pretty closely with the daughter of
James Perter and Nancy's daughter Ann Elizabeth Burell, who married Samuel
Joseph Jenkins.

But the baby one is hard to account for. Ann Elizabeth died in childbirth
with her last child Mary Ann Jenkins in January 1949. IN the 1860 census, the
girls have the last name of Jenkins instead of Burell, making the case
stronger for them as grandchildren of one of James and Nancy's daughters. In
1860, baby Elizabeth is called Mary, adding another complication. Also in
1860, Jane is reported as born in Georgia, rather than Mississippi as in 1850.
Nancy is now listed as Elizabeth .

members. The Arkansas branch usually preferred the spelling Burrell.

Birth 1790 Germantown, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania
Death [Jun. 9, 1863 Vicksburg, Warren County, Mississippi - this is the
information for his son James Henry]
Inscription: CO C 40 MISS INF CSA

[It seems like the death information is for his son James Henry Burrell,
because James Peter would have been 73 years old in 1863. Surely they would
not send a 73 years old to the front lines in a war. The gravestone
referenced has no middle name. Several genealogies report that it was James
Henry who died at Vicksburg in the war. Some genealogies have no death date
for James Peter, but at least one says he died in 1878; one has 1875.]

James P. Burrell was born in Germantown, Pennsylvania in 1790 to Dr. Jean
(John) Baptiste Elzeard Burel and Patience Hannah Bird. His father was a
French immigrant and his mother was an Acadian. His family moved to Union,
Union County, South Carolina in the 1800s. He married Nancy Elizabeth Darby
about 1815, and they sailed from South Carolina to New Orleans. Then they came
to Attala County, Mississippi via Natchez. They had 6 children: Mary, William
Riley, John Berry, Anne Elizabeth, Isabella Avilla, and James Henry. {James P.
served for the Confederate States of America, in the 40th Regiment,
Mississippi Infantry, Company C, "Attala Rebels". He was killed in action
during the siege of Vicksburg, on June 9, 1863. [Seems like this should be
James Henry, because of the age]}

I established a memorial on Find a Grave for James Peter.

---------------------
James Peter Burrell
Birth abt 1790 Germantown, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania
Death 1878 abt Attala County, Mississippi

James Peter Burrell was born about 1790 in Germantown of a French father and a
Canadian mother from Nova Scotia.

His father was Jean Baptiste Elzeard Burel, born 26 Nov 1757 in Ollioules,
Var, Provence (now the Department of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur), France,
died Mar 1828 in Goshen Hill, Union County, South Carolina. Peter's mother was
Patience Hanna Bird, born unknown date in Nova Scotia, Canada, and died about
1848 in Goshen Hill.

About 1815, Peter married Nancy Elizabeth Darby in Union County, South
Carolina. Nancy was born about 1790 in South Carolina and died about 1878 in
Attala County, Mississippi.

Peter died in Attala County, Mississippi, but his burial place has not been
located. His son, named James Henry, died in the battle of Vicksburg, and was
buried there in 1863. Some have confused John Henry, who was born in 1832,
with his father, James Peter.

Parents:
Jean Baptist Elzeard Burel (1757 - 1828)
Patience Hanna Bird Burel
Spouse Nancy Elizabeth Darby Burrell (1790 - ____)
Brother Louis Burel (1786 - 1872)

The burial place has not been found. James does not appaer in any cemetery
lists or death indexes.

Birth Feb. 3, 1847 Gwinnett County, Georgia
Death Mar. 11, 1920 Lexington, Holmes County. Mississippi

Samuel Jefferson Burrell was born on February 3, 1847, to John and Mary Ann
Jenkins Burrell in Gwinnett County, Georgia. At the age of 15, he enlisted for
service to the Confederate States of America as a private. He served in
Company A "Gwinnett Beauregaurds", 42nd Infantry, Georgia Regiment. He was
captured during the seige of Vicksburg, Mississippi on July 4, 1863. He was
paroled there on July 7, 1863.

He eventually moved with most of his family to Mississippi, most likely
because of a land grant.

After the Civil War, he married Annie Eliza "Analiza" Allen, and they had 5
children: Jack Luther, James Ephraim, Cicero Franklin, Ida Elizabeth, and
Samuel Conny. Analiza died in 1884.

Sometime after 1885, Samuel married again, to Nancy Ann Jenkins. They had 12
children: Mary Eliza, Sicily, Oliver Calhoun, Phallie, Hattie, Katie Lee,
