about my aunt Annette's middle name Frank. It was her aunt Annie's middle

She was the sister that took care of my grandfather Reid Butler Sr after his

Notes for Dixie BUTLER

One early anonymous genealogy reported Dixie's birth year as 1870. However,
she does not appear in the 1880 census, and in the 1900 census she is reported
as 16 years old, with a reported birth date of September 1883.

The Find a Grave memorial for Dixie Butler includes her obituary. A problem
occurs here with Dixie's birth date, also as reported in the 1900 census,
being 2 years after the reported date of death of her mother Sarah A Brown
Butler. Her burial monument has her death date as 23 August 1881. The record
of her death in the family Bible, however, is 23 August 1888. It appears that
the monument, set up when Sallie was reburied form her original burial spot on
the family land to the cemetery, was engraved with the incorrect date.

Also there is a younger brother, Thomas David Butler, born in 1885, also
listed in the family Bible birth list. Some birth dates in this list have
been erased and some overwritten with supposed corrections. The year of
Dixie's birth has been erased, with no new date being written over it. The
day of birth is 2 September. The month matches the 1900 census, which reports
birth in September 1883.

Death Dec 27, 1953

Services for Mrs. Roy King, 310 School Street, who died Sunday morning at 8 at

Notes for Dorothy Laura BUTLER

The third child of William Morgan Butler and Ada Loora McSwain is reported by
David Lee as Martha D Butler. I find this child listed first in the 1910
census, however, as Dorothy. This would account for the D in David's lsiting.
However, in the 1920 census, she is listed as Dorothy D. But family records
report her as dorothy Laura.

Notes for Edmund BUTLER

World Family Tree Pedigree #1274 has birth dates about 40 years earlier than
others I have seen. There are no comments to give any perspective. These
dates could be right. I note that the previous dates I had for Edmund Butler
were born 1280, died 1321. This would mean he lived only 41 years. This
could be, but many of the nobility lived longer lives than that in his era. I
have seen no information on his manner of death.

I notice also that genealogy WFT #1274 has all the generations of FitzWalters
and Botilers from 1150 to 1387 born in England, whereas others show the
Butlers born in Ireland, which would make sense as they family head served the
King of England as the Butler and Justiciar of Ireland.

A member of the Butler family reports a both a brother and a sister with
similar names: Frances M and Francis M. Sarah Ingram reporting on this family
from the Ingram side has only Frances M Butler as a child of Thomas F Butler.
Sarah has dates and place of birth of all the children she lists.

I can find no records for Francis M Butler. Some genealogies report the place
of death as Jackson, Rankin, Mississippi, but with no documentation. However,
Jacksoin is in Hinds County, and Rankin is the neighboring county to the east.
As far as I have been able to determine, Jackson does not cross the county
line in to Rankin County.

A couple have the year of death as 1920, but again no documentation or
sourcing. Three genealogies report her husband as Pinkney G Spain.

Butler, Baby 4mos [sic] F W b Mississippi born October [sic] [b abt 1869]

The age of the "Baby" is very interesting. This census reports she is 4
months old, yet reports she was born in October! There is no mistaking either
of these very clearly written and preserved entries. This census date was 1
June and actually taken here on 30 June. If she was born in October 1869 she
would have been 7 months old on 1 June.

The baby is Mary, Later census reports don't help us much on specifying when
she was born. In 1880 she is reported as 9 years old, which would require her
to be born after the census date of June 1870! The 1900 census is also a year
late, with birth reported as March 1871! Memory failed in these later cases,
reporting her born after the 1870 census shows she was already there. And
either the enumerator or the parents were wrong in 1870 on either the age or
the birth month.

Since March is the commonality to most reports, it seems likely she was born
in March (1 March is suggested by sources) 1870. This still does not match
exactly with the reported age of 4 months for census date 1 June or actual
date on the page of 30 June. The grave date of birth is 1 March 1870.

The last child Dixie is reported born in late 1883. This is two years after
the death of George's wife Sarah A. The date of death on her gravestone is 23
August 1881. This is an error, corrected when we find the death record in the
family Bible, in the possession of Jack Dodson. The date of death there is 23
August 1888. When Sallie was reburied from the original grave on the family
land to the public cemetery, the wrong date was inscribed on the monument.
Sallie had another child, Thomas David, born in 1885 and died in 1896.

George's gravestone provides his death date, thanks to the photo by Jack
Dodson on his Ancestry.com genealogy.
