Notes for Mary CANDLER

Ignatious divorced his wife Mary Candler for infidelity, and there was a matter
of financial irresponsibility, documented in records of Columbia County,
Georgia. Note also a reference in a newspaper in 1973 to the relinquishment
of Mary's dowery.

The folloiwng three documents are from genealogy researchers on Ancestry.com
using pseudonymns, accessed and edited for readability 27 November 2017.

-------------------
We recently examined the Ga divorce laws. Now consider the aftermath of a
divorce. Under the current Georgia law, if the husband was the defendant in
the divorce action, and the divorce was granted, he was to be able to contract
another marriage after the death of his divorced wife. This law in action
brought about an unusual will and estate settlement.

Mary Candler oldest child of Elizabeth Anthony and Col Wm Candler married
Ignatious Sr and relinquished her dower Aug 10 , 1792 ... which was recorded

Relinquishment of Dower
Mary Candler Few
vs
Ignatious Few

On receiving the sum of $500 sterling, Mary Few relinquishes all dower rights.
"We are mutually agreed this day to make a final seperation as man and wife,
and it is my sincere wish that the General Assembly may divorce me from said
Ignatius Few"
Signed Mary Few, 1792 Aug. 10
Recorded 31 January 1809 Columbia Co Ga
-------------------

-------------------
AFFIDAVIT-Thomas Sandrick, for Ignatius Few.
Swears that Mary Few signed renunciation of dower.

Swears that he never heard Capt. Few mention her name, or any circumstances
relating to her, but on that day Capt. Few called at his house to borrow his
pistols, and Dr. deYamport was with him.

Deponent lent the pistols, but expecting they were about to be used in a duel,
offered his services in concilating matters. On their way to Wrightsborough,
Capt. Few stated that WIlliam Slatter had made his escape from justice, after
having, in concert with said Mary Few, procured poison from said Dr.
deYamport, to administer to him, Few. Hoped that deponent would help him.

Procured new warrent at Wrightborough, on most positive deposition of
deYamport as to the facts. On the following day went out to a relative of
said Slatter, where they stated that Slatter and Mary Few had slept the night
before. Slatter's brother reprobated the conduct of said Willian in living
with Mary Few, promising he should leave the State in 14 days, Capt. Few
giving him that long to settle his affairs.

Deponent then came to Mrs. Few's and found her very violent, and denying the
fact of procuring the poison, until she found that Capt. Few had brought Dr.
deYamport with him. She then burst into tears and said, "The doctor is just
as bad as me..he told me to give it." On being ask how she and Slatter came to
give a bond for 200 lbs to the said deYamport, she made no answer. She
continued to cry and begged forgiveness. Said she would write to her sister
over the mountains, and live virguous [virtuous?] in the future. Capt. Few
reminded her of several deviations from virgue which she confessed, also to
having taken two bonds for 120 pounds each. She had been given 50 pounds as
seperate maintainance and assurance of pecuniary relief if she returned to her
sister, and left the connection with Slatter.

But on Monday morning she had the audacity to tell the deponent she had
altered her mind, and was determined to live with Slatter, because she was not
yet 30 years of age, and peole would always say she lived with somebody. She
declared she once had had a consent from Capt. Few to marry the said Slatter.
(At this point others came in...Flournoy, Atty; Weatherby, Preacher, etc.)

It was proposed that an instrument of divorce should be drawn up, and deponent
positively saith no threats were made.

Capt. Few has since proposed that if she would name a trustee to prevent her
squandering away her property in the shameful manner lately practised, he
would make any purchases she chose.

Further deponent saith not.

Notes for Fannie CANNON

Ignatius P Few's death certificate reports his wife was Fannie Cannon, and
reports he was widowed at the time of his death on 9 July 1954. A historical
publication on his mother's Kendrick family also gives this name for Ignatius'
wife and reports the date of marriage as the year 1894. Another historical
book reports his wife as Amanda, with no maiden name known. Neither source
mentions the other wife.

Tennessee State Marriages, 1780-2002
Thomas I Cantrell
Spouse: Nancy K Green
Marriage 16 Aug 1859 Warren County

The handwriting of the marriage record apepars to have Thomas' middle initial
as I, but more complete records report his middle name as Jefferson. The
comparison of this letter to other Js or Is on the page is inconclusive. And
notice the difference in marriage date. The State Marriage record
transcription by ancestry.com says the date of the license was 14 aug, while
the Family Data Collection seems to report the date of the wedding. When I
checked the actual image of the Tennesee State Marriages book, the date was 16

Notes for Beatrice CANTU

The Bermudez couple were related to Angela's birth mother, Feliciana Treviño
Camacho. It appears Angela was the first child of Feliciana and her husband
Philip Camacho. The family was somewhat distressed, since Feliciana's first
husband had died, and there were several children from that marriage in the
household.

The Bermudezes were Angela's godparents and agreed to raise her. They lived
in very meager circumstances, however, and Angela's adopted daughter, her
sister Jeanne's daughter, reports that Angela had sad memories of her growing
up, including not getting to go to school.

Her adoptive parents' last names are given in her death record.

California, Death Index, 1940-1997

"Angela Benavides -- I was told by her that she was stolen or given to her
godparents and they lived in a train caboose. Made their way to San Francisco
and stayed there the rest of her life." They arranged for Angela to marry
Filberto Felix. He was from Mexico."
-- Paula Juarez, Facebook Messaging to Orville Boyd Jenkins, 30 January 2019

Angela's daughter reports that Angela had said she never got to go to school.

------------------
Angie (Angela Benavides-Felix) -- [her birth mother] Feliciana did not bring
her up. She gave her to Angie's godparents. Bermudez was that last name.
Angie was never allowed to go to school and they lived in a railroad box car.
They moved to San Francisco.

I think the godparents names were Beatrice & Daniel Bermudez(s). They both
worked at St. Joseph's church. In San Francisco when I was young. I think
Angela died in the 90's sometime.
-- Paula Juarez, Facebook Messaging to Orville Boyd Jenkins, 1 February 2019
------------------

The Bermudez couple did formally adopt Angela. Adoption records have not been
found, but we note that Angela's California Death Record (see at the end of
these notes) gives the names of her parents as mother's maiden name Cantu and
father's name surname Bermudez. Her adoptive parents' last names are given
in her death record. This also indicates that they did formally adopt Angela.

Second marriage for dad to Hilda Jenkins Orr. Shelly was adopted, an only

Bruce. My neice Patty Jenkins Lee, (in Orange County Calif). Richards daughter
found your site and gave me the information."
-- Sandy Chandler, email to Orville Boyd Jenkins, 23 September 2010

In the 1930 census, Betty Louise (named Betty Lou) is with what appears to be
her stepmother Muriel B Eynon Carey. Muriel is a widow living inher brother's
household. Muriel is only 10 years older than Betty Lou's brother Claude, who
must therefore be Muriel's stepson. Eurich's niece Betty Lou (Betty Louise)
could be Muriel's own daughter. Muriel would have been about 14 when she was
born, so it possible she is Betty Lou's real mother. But it is more likely
that Muriel is the stepmother of both children.

This census led me to a 1920 census for Betty Lou's family in Salt Lake City.
The details generally match, but teh child matching Betty Lou's mother Muriel
is enumerated as F Louise. She is F Louise here and Muriel B in 1930. That
would be 4 names. But I have seen other census entries where initials are
completely foreign to the actual names fo the enumerated.

Louise's age is a little off at 13 years old in 1920, in contrast with
Muriel's age 21 in 1930. This is a gain of only 8 years, but I have seen
census ages even farther off than this.

Eurich/Eyrick V's age is even more off, with age 17 in 1920, but only 21 in
1930! But how many other people could there be named Eyrick or Eurich in
Utah, whose mother was born in England and father in Utah?! Too many facts
fit. And this census indicates that Eurich/Eyrick had a twin brother, Cyril
O.

Notes for Claude E CAREY

From his age in the 1930 census, it appears that Claude Carey is the son of his
father's first wife. He is only 10 years younger than his 21-year-old
"mother" in the 1930 census. He is the nephew of Eurich V Eynon, whose
widowed sister Muriel Carey is living in Eurich's household. She is only 10
years older than Claude, who must therefore be her stepson. Eurich's niece
Betty Lou (Betty Louise) could be Muriel's own daughter. Muriel would have
been about 14 when she was born, so it possible she is Betty Lou's real
mother. But at her age, she is more likely the stepmother of both children.

With the 1930 census now in hand, I was able to find a 1920 census that seems
to represent this famly with Eurich's widowed mother, in Salt Lake City. Very
many details match, although tehre is a great discrepancy between the ages
reproted for Eyrick V (17 in 1920) and Eurich V (21 in 1930). The unusual
facts about the parents make this a sure match. We learn here also that
Eurich had a twin brother, Cyril O.

The child matching Eurich and Betty Lou's mother Muriel is enumerated here as
F Louise. Perhaps Muriel was a 4th name. Her age is a little off at 13 years
old, making her birth year about 1916. This contrasts with Muriel's age 21 in
1930, a gain of only 8 years, but as census ages go, this is good.
