The last name is found spelled three different ways in the sources and genealogies: Chapel, Chappel, Chappell. The name occurs with the standard spelling like the word Chapel in some sources among Jenkins family members. So I have followed that spelling. I found a fourth spelling in the death certificate of Archie and Mary's son Jeremiah (Jerry), where it appears as Chapil. The certificate is also signed by the informant, Jerry's son Abe, using the same spelling for his own last name. Texas Marriages, 1851-1900 Mary Henson Gender: Female Spouse A. George's father was reported born in Tennessee, but the others' father was born in Georgia. But the last name of all of them is Chappel. If that is correct, it would mean that Nancy was married to two men named Chapel. Various genealoiges reprot her simply as Dora Chapel (under various spellings) as though this was her maiden name. They had family in Indian Territory, and it is likely they were there. Both of them appear at different times later in their separate households in Oklahoma. They might have been divorced in the Territory. Oklahoma records are not available online. They may have got a Chickasaw divorce which was then not recorded with US authorities. Or they may have gotten a US authority divorce that is not available easily today. James died in Cleburne, Texas, in 1922. Rebecca lived until 1949, when she died in Tyler, in Smith County, Texas. But in fact we know from other records and family information that he lived on with his second wife Dora until 1922. Did James Jonathan and Rebecca divorce, and Rebecca is erroneously reported as a widow in 1900, when she was really divorced? There are cases like this. Perhaps the social disfavor of divorce would lead Rebecca to report she was a widow rather than divorced? The birth states of the parents of Oliver here do not match the 1880 census of his parents and his mother's report in this 1900 census. Note that his parents are reported as being born in Georgia and Illinois. James J Chappel was born in Texas, according to the 1880 census. But note that here Rebecca in her own record is not reported born in Illinois but Texas. (But in 1880 the birth state of her mother has been interpreted by some as an abbreviation for Illinois. It is interpreted by others as SC, which seems to be correct.) Birth states of Rebecca's parents change again in 1910. Reports of birth place for James vary between Texas and Arkansas. The 1900-1920 censuses report he was born in Texas. 1900 Federal Census, Sebastian County, Arkansas, 19 June, Rogers, District 120, page 15A, Hse #284, Fam #306 Ramsey, Nancy Head W F May 1882 18 Single AR TX TX Servant Rents Ramsey, Geo Brother W M Feb 1885 15 Single AR TX TX Coal Mine Day Laborer Owns Ramsey, Lula Sister W M Jan 1886 14 Single TX TX TX In School - Fam #306 - Chapell, John J Head W M Nov 1862 37 Married 7 yrs TX Unknown Unknown Coal Miner Rents Chapell, Dora Wife W F Feb 1878 22 Married 7 yrs 3 children/3 living TX GA TN Chapell, Roy Son W M Apr 1894 6 AR TX TX Chapell, Edgar Son W M Aug 1896 3 AR TX TX Chapell, Gertrude Dau W F July 1898 1 AR TX TX Another Ramsey family is listed next, and another Chapel family is listed before this two-family household.
