Notes for Firstwife CHARLESII

There may have been no first wife. This wife was posited to acocunt for the
birth of Goldean Jenkins in 1902 before Rosella Scruggs Benson married Charles
Jenkins. It may be, on the other hand, that Rosella was Goldean's mother and
Goldean was born out of wedlock before her parents married, only in 1905,
according ot Arkansas County, Arkansas, marriage records.

Harriett Jenkins
Born 26 Jun 1891, Died Jun 1980
Last Residence Hooks, Bowie, Texas 75561
SSN 449-88-1036 issued Texas (1965)

Note that the SSDI reports the address of last residence as Hooks, Bowie
County, Texas. The above-cited genealogy reports the place of death as
Naples, in Morris County, Texas. Another family source, also compiled by a
Jenkins-Wommack descendant, agrees with this genealogy of the related Cobb
family. I fiind that the Texas Death Index also reports the county of death
as Morris.

Texas Death Index, 1903-2000
Harriet Jenkins
Death 3 Jun 1980 Morris County
Gender: Female

We can see from these sources, then, that when she died, Harriet was living in
Hooks, but she died in Naples. It is not known whether she was in the home of
a relative or a medical care facility at the time of her death. Naples is a
small place, not much larger than Hooks, but it is the county seat of small
Morris County.

Harriett is buried in Dalton Cemetery with her husband Ebby Jenkins. Her
information from the Dalton Cemetery register provides her full birth and
death dates but no maiden name or other family information.

If this report is true, she was probably Cherokee, or mixed-blood. This area
was expropriated from the Cherokees, but some mixed-bloods chose to "be white"
and avoided the forced removal. Some Greens were Cherokee, some were white.
This line of Greens appears not to be relted to the Cherokee line of Meshack W
Greena nd Lucretia Franklin in South Carolina, who died before the 1817 treaty
of removal. But one of their daughters married to a Horton white man moved
west in the first removal.

There is some indication that some of the Greens in Ancil's line, in the
Rutherford-Cleveland County area of North Carolina, married Cherokees. Some
known Cherokees married to whties or mixed-blood families in Georgia were
rounded up and forced to move. Many managed to hide and avoid the roundup for
some time and managed to stay in the area. Some whites married to Cherokees
also stayed with the tribe, registered in the original or subsequent removals
and mvoed west.

Notes for Marie CHATIGNY

A marriage record reported by the historical society reports that the mother of
Louis' bride Thérèse was named Marie Chatigny. Marie would have been born
around 1800.

"LOUIS DUMOND b. 1815-1820 d. 23 Oct. 1848, aged 32 years, buried Swan Lake m.
in Ark. Co. 29 Apr 1841 THERESE DESRUISSEAUX, daughter of Francois Xavier
DesRuisseaux and Marie Chatigny. Had issue. Represented in partition by widow
Therese who remarried in Ark Co 9 Aug 1860 W.D. Hair (Hare)."
-- Grand Prairie Historical Society Bulletin, October 1980

This appears to be the same Marie Chatigny in Arkansas County, Arkansas, who
married Manuel Pertuis in about 1`825. Marie and François Desruisseaux's
last child wa born in 1824, and Marie's first child with Manuel Pertuis was
born in 1826. We can thus place Louis' death, as well as her marriage to
Manuel, in about 1825. I have not found the marriage record for the second
marriage, nor death detaisl for Louis Desruisseaux.

Arlene married her high school sweetheart the fall after graduation in Mason
City, Iowa. Her new husband's residence was Vancouver, Washington, where he
had moved earlier and was serving in the US Navy. It is unclear, but there is
no indication Arlene moved to Vancouver during the war. In 1947, the couple
are reported in Mason City, in the City Directory.
