Birthdates of parents in this 1880 census are uncertain, because the entries are inconsistent. For the children, most have only the individual's birth state, and no separate entry in the field for Mother or Father's state of birth. So it seems we are to assume the states reported in their parents' individual records. But on others it seems the enumerator followed the common practice of drawing down the last entered state in that same column. like a ditto. And on a couple of the parents, not all fields are fulfilled, which we usually take to mean the information was not known. 1880 Federal Census, Grayson County, Texas, 1 July, Whitesboro, District 7, page 44, Hse/Fam #405 Conley, James R W M 29 Laborer Married NC NC NC [b abt 1851] Conley, Nancy E W F 24 Wife Keeping House Married TN TN NC [abt 1856] Conley, Mary A W F 5 Dau Single TX NC TN [abt 1875] Conley, Stephen L W M 4 Son Single TX NC TN [abt 1876] Conley, Jason M W M 2 Son TX NC TN [b abt 1878] Conley, James E W M 1 Son TX NC TN [b abt 1879] Condra, Lucy J W F 14 Servant Single TX TN NC Cannot write [b abt 1866]

--------------------- Arizona is the really interesting one of all the senator's siblings. Seems to have married a vaquero, with whom she went into the boarding business. There is a "rest of the story" sticking in my mind from somewhere, which is that when Ann died, her distraught parents painted "GTT" [Gone to Texas] on their wagon and invited Jones to come along with them to Brazoria. Or was it the other way around? Had it not been for the Comanches, Kiowas, and Cheyenne, and the fact that dry-land farming was no good west of the 100th parallel, emigration to Texas might have depopulated the older, cottoned-out parts of Dixie worse than it did. -- James Jones, Ancestry Messaging to Orville Boyd Jenkins, 12 August 2017 --------------------- Arizona Connally Birth 3 December 1869, Brazos, Texas, United States Death 5 February 1948, Gorman, Eastland, Texas, United States Burial February 1948, Eddy Cemetery, McLennan, Texas, United States Faher Charles Jones Connally Mother Mary Ellen Terry Spouse Lavozia Montier Clements Birth 25 December 1859 Alabama, United States Death 13 January 1930 De Leon, Comanche, Texas, United States Burial 1930 Falls, Texas, United States of America -- https://familysearch.org/tree/person/KLBC-PFQ/details?parents=KJ6Z-4TP_KLBC-YWQ Arizona Connally Clements Birth Dec 3, 1859 Texas, USA Death unknown On stone with L.M. One source has two children of Nathaniel Edwin and Mary Ellen: Eddie, born Sep 1863 and Nathaniel Edwin Jr, with no birth information. It seemed obvious that these are two entries for the same person, one under the full name and one under the nickname. However, Eddie was listed as a female. Other family information coming to me through Jacque Watkins from descendants of Eddy also indicates that Eddie/Eddy was female. The name of Eddy's husband matches the husband of Eddie reported on the web site. In the 1880 census Eddie is reported in the household of Mary E and her second husband Jones Connally. There was some confusion in some transcriptions of the 1880 census, where Eddie was listed as a Step-son. But I read it as Step-dau, matching the report of Eddie as Female. (The high loop on the lower-case D probably read to some like an S.) In this census, 16-year-old Eddie matches the birth date of September 1863 for Eddie in the genealogy. 1880 Federal Census, McLennan County, Texas, 15 June, Page 33A (scan p166A), District 111, Hse/Fam #201 Connally, Jones W M 54 Farmer GA TN GA Connally, Mary E W F 36 Wife Keeping House GA SC GA Connally, Eddie W F 16 Step-Dau At Home GA GA GA Two genealogies report the children of Eddie and her husband Meredith Kendrick. "Drury (or Drewry) Christian, whose birth date ranges between 1750 and 1793 in various trees, but the best support is for the way you have it, namely about 1760. He had three wives that we know of, Mornin (or Mourning) Christian, daughter of Charles Hunt Christian and Mary Leake; Frances Elizabeth Oglesby, whom for the moment we have no choice but to accept as mother of Cenas, Pyrene, and Sally; and Frances Connally. Only for Mornin Christian do we have actual Virginia marriage records, one each for 4 Mar 1784 and 4 Mar 1785. After the last child was born of this marriage, in 1799, there was a jump until 1808, when Cenas and Pyrene were born, followed by Sarah Frances "Sally" in 1811. Unless all the trees that list Frances Elizabeth Oglesby as their mother is wrong (I have found no actual marriage record, [Frances Oglesby is the mother of these three daughters].)" -- James Jones, Ancestry Messaging to Orville Boyd Jenkins, 11 January 2018 The only reference to any children from the marriage of Frances Connally and Drury Christian is the minor child Mary mentioned in his 1825 will. Drury's will mentions three daughters and three sons. It would appear from what we know, the three sons, named Drury B, Thomas C and John A, were the sons of Drury's wife Frances Elizabeth Oglesby, as were the three older daughters Pyrene, Cenas (both born in 1808) and Sarah (Sallie, born 1811). No birth dates have been found for the three sons. A fourth daughter named Mary was named as a minor child in Drury's will, and appears to be the daughter of Frances Connally, who survived Drury when he died in 1825. Drury's will names his heirs and executors. No other documentation has been found on these three sons. It will be assumed that, lacking any other information, these, like the older daughters, are the children of Frances Elizabeth Oglesby. Georgia, Wills and Probate Records, 1742-1992 Drury Christian, Will written 7 March 1825 Probate Franklin County, Georgia, appraisers appointed 30 April 1825 Heirs named: Wife Frances Christian Daughters Pyrene, Cenas, Sarah and Mary (described in other documents as minor child, with guardian Chrles Jones) Sons Drury B, Thomas C and John A Wife Francy (Frances) Christian appointed Executrix of the estate, and his friends Thomas Jones and George Stovall as Executors Three witnesses presented Drury's will for recording on 7 March 1825. There are a couple of other genealogies that have only the second husband for Frances, but report her name as Christian. Georgia Marriages to 1850 Fanny [Connally] Christian James Ramsey Marriage 7 Sep 1829 Franklin County, Georgia Some genealogies report Frances Oglesby as the wife of James Ramsey, but lack her first husband, Drury Christian. A genealogy reporting Frances Connally also reports parents for her but has no documentation. The parents reported are Thomas Connally and Mary Polly Price. (And note that Polly is a nickname for Mary.) This indicates a confusion of Frances Elizabeth Oglesby and Frances (Fanny) Connally. These confusions demonstrate the frustrating sloppiness of the confusing trees people have put up with no documentation.
