He wenbt by Joe, and even his Social Security records have Joe rather than
Joseph.. Matbe the name Jefferson in the 1920 census was an inadvertent error
by the emumerator since the name Jefferson Davis was such a common name in
that region of the country, he just wrote that by the time he put it on paper.

In 1880, Martin is age 21 and working on the family farm with his father. The
Cowart family are living three houses down from Samuel S Tatum, brother of his
wife to be, Annie America West. Sam and his wife Lizzie were parents of
Amanda Tatum, who married Gus West. Gus and Amanda were parents of Annie.

Annie died young, in 1897, after bearing one son. Then Martin married Vista B
Cline in 1898.

The 1900 census record for the Cline family reports Vista Cowart as married
and she has an 8-month-old daughter Bonnie M Cowart, but her husband is not in
that household.

In 1910, Martin and Vista appear in their own household in the same town,
Jasper, Georgia.

Mary's gravestone, interestingly, has no dates. Her memorial on Finda Grave,
however, strangely has the birth year wrong, reproting her birth in 1884,
instead of 1894. She was only 15 years old in the 1910 census, matchignher
repored age of 5 in 1900, with her birth date there reported as June 1895.

Note that in 1880, Susannah was reported as 5 years old. And in 1900 she was
reported as 20 years old, which would match birth in about 1779, making her
only about 1 year old or less in 1880! An additional error is introduced,
apparently by the poor math of the enumerator, by reporting her birth year as
1889, equivalent to only 10 or 11 years old!

Thomas Olen "Tom" Cowart, Sr
Birth 1886
Death 1972

Sent to me by Netha Dunlapom 11-30-2015, which was taken from abstract of the
minutes books of Corrinth P B Church.

Whitfield County
Dalton, Georgia
August 5, 1972

Having been appointed by Corrinth Primitive Baptist Church to write a memorial
to our beloved Brother in Christ, Elder T. O. Cowart, Sr., who passed away
June 20, 1972, we wish to submit the following:

Elder Cowart united with the Primitive Baptist Church of Christ in the year
1918, along with his wife Amy Brannon Cowart. He was ordained as a minister in
February, 1935. He remained a faithful member and Elder until his death.

Elder Cowart was married to Amy Brannon Cowart in January, 1907 and to this
union was born 10 children. Brother Cowart was born October, 1886 and died at
the age of 85, June 20, 1972. Those of us who remain are witnesses that Elder
Cowart fought the Good Fight of Faith, first Timothy 6-12. We feel the family,
church, and friends have suffered loss but it is his gain. “For to me to
live is Christ and to die is gain”, Phillipiams 1-21.

The church and friends at Corrinth extend our heartfelt sympathy and respect
to the family of Elder Cowart.

Humble submitted by your Brother in Christ,
Dennis R Houston and Elder O C Crabtree
