Named in the Magna Charta 1215.
The mother of Elizabeth LeStrange was Maud d'Eiville, born about 1251, died after 1309. There is confusion in some genealogies between Maud D'Eiville born 1251, wife of John IV 1st Lord Strange of Knockin born abt 1253/54, and Isolda de Walton born 1277, who married his son John VI 2nd Lord Strange of Knockin born 1282. Some list Maud as Maud de Walton, with the parents of Isolda de Walton: John de Walton b abt 1231 and Isabel Shirley b abt 1244. They may report Isolda (Yseult/Maud) de Walton correctly as born 1277, but married to John V born 20 years earlier. It is true that sources vary on the dates. Details such as that were not in focus in the culture of the time. However, some genealogies appear to follow uncritical sources or copy each other, while there are scholarly sources that have analyzed and probed the historical possibilities. I have tried to follow those sources where available, or perform my own critical analysis to sort out likelihoods among the various family and historical sources. The Corbett Genealogy website reports that Maud d'Eiville was born in 1251. This source also reports that her place of birth was Ellesmere, which seems a little questionable, since I understand Ellesmere was a LeStrange estate, not a d'Eiville estate. -- Corbet-Le Strange Genealogy, http://www.renderplus.com/hartgen/htm/le-strange.htm Information on the LeStrange Website reports that Maud was still alive in 1309, but provides no more specific information. -- Descent, http://www.ls.u-net.com/le_Strange/Seat-H2.htm The Corbett Genealogy reports Maud d'Eiville's death date as the exact year 1309.
