Notes for Jemima DEASON

Sarah Philpot 6 F b Miss
Thomas Philpot 5 M b Miss
Penina Philpot 8mos F b Miss

Two additional children are memtioned in Jemima's memorial on Find a Grave.
After Penina is Lucinda, and the last-named child is Dr William Wilshire
Philpot. Lucinda does not appear in the 1860 census, but is in the 1870
census as 15 years old. Where was she in 1860? It might be another name for
one of the other chidlren, but there is no other girl child close to the age
of Lucinda.

The Ancestry scan of the 1860 census is incomplete, cutting off most the right
section of the sheet from the birth state field to the right edge of the
sheet. I don't know which James Philpot this is working on the farm.

Elizabeth appears in the Find-a-Grave list below, as well as Sarah. In the
1860 census she is reported as 17 yeas old, but the name Elizabeth does not
appear in the 1850 census for the family. Maybe Sarah is reported in 1860,
with an age matching Elizabeth in 1860. WQith what we now now, this leads to
the tentative conclusion that Sarah and Elizabeth are the same child, even
though both lists appear in the Find-a-Grave list.

Notes for William Samuel DEBERRY

I first find Sam in the 1880 census, but with no other Deberry family. Sam
Deberry is 25 years old, meaning born in about 1855, and was born in
Mississippi, This Sam is living with the family of John Miller Sr, an
immigrant from Prussia, whose son is living a few doors away. John Jr's
daughter Jenny married Thomas Seamons, and became the mother of Ethel Oral
Seamons, the mother of Bertie Lois Dumond McSwain.

The oldest daughter here, E Holbert, is named Elizabeth, or Nancy Elizabeth.
Sam later married Nancy Elizabeth, according to family sources. In 1900 they
are still in the same place. Three boarders are in their home, one of whom is
Honce Holbert, Nancy's son from her first marriage. Very interesting that he
is reported as a Boarder rather than a stepson of William DeBerry.

Notes for Eliza Ellen DECKER

The folloiwng record for the 1870 census reports Alfred M Green and his family.
Eliza's grave reports she died in March 1868 The 1870 is at first puzzling,
reporting an Eliza Green as keeping house. But we note she is only 21 years
old, while the first child Olevia is 8 years old. So this unidentified Eliza
could not be the mother of these chidlren.

1870 Federal Census, Parker County, Texas, 24 August, Precinct 2, PO Ft Worth,
page 10, Hse/Fam #198
Green, Alfred M 34 M Farmer $500 Real Estate $500 Personal Estate born Georgia

Green, Eliza 21 F Kg House born Missouri [b abt 1849]
Green, Olive 8 M born Texas [b abt 1862]
Green, Rolly [Raleigh] 5 M born Texas [b abt 1865]

No 1880 census record has been identified with certainty for Alfred Green.
The followng family matches to a large degree, but A M Green is reported born
in Missouri, not Georgia. This family and the children's names have some
similarity, to Andrew McClure Green and his wife Eliza Jane Huff, in
Weatherford, while Alfred is reported on a farm in later records. But Eliza
Ellen Decker Green's burial marker and a biograpy-obituary for Alfred on Clark
Cemetery history report that Eiza Ellen died in 1868.

Green, Z??? W M 18 Son Farm Hand TX MO TN [b abt 1862]
Green, Mollie W F 15 Dau At Home TX MO TN [b abt 1865]

The 1880 census has Eliza's initials as E G, but the grave of Eliza Decker has
her middle name as Ellen.
----------------

Her Find a Grave memorial reports Eliza's parents married in Missouri and
Eliza born in Missouri. This seems likely. But a biographical summary of
Alfred and his family on the Clark Cemetery History reports Eliza as "from
Martinsburg, Pennsylvania." This seems awkward, at best, in light of other
family facts.

---------------------
Alfred M Green, a pioneer farmer and resident of Parker County, was born
November 6, I833 in Raleigh, North Carolina. ... He married Eliza Ellen
Decker born June 2. 1845, from Martinsburg, Blair County, Pennsylvania.
According to the 1870 United States Federal Census, Alfred M. Green, a widower
[? the 1870 census did not report marital status], and his two children are
found living in Precinct 2, Parker County, Texas. ... Alfred, Eliza E., their
daughter Olevia Lee (Green) Dobbs and their grandson Onrille Austin Green
(1892-1960) are buried in the family plot at Clark Cemetery along with many
other descendents.

Eliza Ellen Decker Green
Birth Jun 2, 1845
Death Mar 21, 1868

Nelson Decker had an original German name-Dietrick, or something-that
apparently was "Americanized" when the family came to America. He and
Christina were married in Missouri in 1841, their daughter Eliza was born in
1845 in Missouri, but by 1850 Christina and Eliza were living with one of her
siblings in Missouri. I could never find Nelson Decker again, although I had a
professional genealogist in Missouri "look" for him. The Waggoners and Lopps
came from Germany, settled in North Carolina and some of them did not speak
English for many years; they were apparently people of "means" as they had
much land and many slaves.

Notes for Regina DEGRAFFENREID

1850 Federal Census, St Francois County, Missouri, 13 October, District 80,
page 397 (scan 199), Hse #652, Fam #666
Eli A Riddle 49 M Stone Mason No Real Estate reported b Vermont [b abt 1801]
Rejina Riddle 37 F b Tennessee [b abt 1813]
Lonzzo [Lorenzo] D Riddle 16 M Laborer b Tennessee [b abt 1834]
Napoleon B Riddle 13 M b Tennessee [b abt 1837]
Orville T Riddle 10 M b Tennessee [b abt 1840]
Va [Virginia] T Riddle 7 F b Tennessee [b abt 1843]
Eli A Riddle 4 E b Tennessee [b abt 1846]
Edwin R Riddle 1 M b Tennessee[b abt 1849]

This census reports that Edwin is only 1 year old, but born in Tennessee. So
if this birth state record is correct, it means that Eli and Rigina moved to
Missouri soon after Edwin's birth.

Eli and Regina named their first son after a famous evangelist of their day.

"Lorenzo Dow Riddles' Namesake -- 1834 -- The basis for Lorenzo Dow
Riddles' name by his parents Eli Asberry & Regina Riddles"
-- W Riddles, summary comment on a story about the namesake of Lorenzo Dow
Riddles, Ancestry.com, 09 Jun 2009

"The wife of Eli A. Riddles was listed on the 1850 St. Francois, Mo. as
Regina. Because of Richard Riddles' [b.1780-1784,] brother John W. Riddles b.
1782 & living in White Co., Tenn. of which a portion eventually became Van
Buren Co., Tenn. He & 1st wife, Nancy Caroline Simmons had several sons &
daughters, one daughter was named Regina De Graffen Riddles b. 1834 who
married Richmond Haston. I do not believe this is a coincidence but rather in
honor of Eli A. Riddles wife, Regina. And they lived in Tennessee in
households of either Riddles families or de Graffenreid families up through
1840, after which they are found in Mo as well as many of Richard's sons &
daughters. De Graffenreid families of Tenn. removed to Missouri, Ark and
finally north Texas and those found in Grayson, Cooke and surrounding counties
are, I believe Regina's brothers. More information to come as research
continues."

There are likewise DeGraffenreids still livngin Carroll Countym, Arkansas,
where Eli mvoed from St Francois County, Missour. No record of death has been
found for Regina, no a marriage record for Eli's next wife, to ascertain
whether she died before the move or after. The 1860 census reports Eli with a
new, younger wife, Hannah C (maiden name unknown), and the children born since
the 1850 census are aged 8, 5 and 2. the last child in the 1850 census,
enumerated with Eli and Regina, was Ediwin, age 1. He is reported as age 11
in the 1860 census.

1860 Federal Census, Carroll County, Arkansas, 28 August, Hickory Township, P
O Carrollton, page 135, Hse #908, Fam #880
Riddles, E A 55 M M[ethodist] Clergyman $700 Real Estate $480 Personal Estate

Riddles, Florence F 8 F born Arkansas [b abt 1852]
Riddles, Mary Jane 5 F born Arkansas [b abt 1855]
Riddles, Seaman B 2 M born Arkansas [b abt 1858]

All the children born after the 1850 census were born in Arkansas. It has
seemd to me that the older Arkansas-born child, Florence, bnorn abotu 1852,
was the daughter of Hannah. But some researchers believe Regina was her
mother. There is no documentation on any site to confirm that, no have I
found any. The question is, at this stage, moot.
