Notes for Mary DENTON

"Sylvanus A. Strang [Find a Grave memorial] #40675275 was married to a woman
named Mary, and they had two children, Sylvanus H. Strang 1842-1845 and Mary
Strang 1840-1853, [Find a Grave memorial #] 26857289. Sylvanus died in 1847
and the children both died young ... the three of them are buried together in
a short row and I've added photos of the row to the memorials. I'm not quite
sure what became of the widow Mary Strang, but I have her on the 1850 census
of Stillwater with Denton family members. The child, Mary Strang [Find a Grave
memorial #] 26857289 needs to be linked to her father Sylvanus A Strang [Find

I found Mary Strang with her daughter Mary in a household of men named Denton,
who appear to be her brothers.

Notes for Thérèse DESRUISSEAUX

Arkansas Marriages to 1850
Desruesseaux, Therese
Dumont, Louis
Marriage 29 Apr 1841 Arkansas County, Arkansas

"LOUIS DUMOND b. 1815-1820 d. 23 Oct. 1848, aged 32 years, buried Swan Lake m.
in Ark. Co. 29 Apr 1841 THERESE DESRUISSEAUX, daughter of Francois Xavier
DesRuisseaux and Marie Chatigny. Had issue. Represented in partition by widow
Therese who remarried in Ark Co 9 Aug 1860 W.D. Hair (Hare)."
-- Grand Prairie Historical Society Bulletin, October 1980

Terresa Hare is listed as one of the heirs of Félicité Caillot Dumond in
1862. This is Teresa (Thérèse) DesRuisseaux, widow of Louis/Lewis Dumont
(Dumond), who married W D Hare (Hair) after the death of Louis in 1848.
Thérèse is reported to be the daughter of Francois Xavier DesRuisseaux and
Marie Chatigny.

Louis Dumont appears in the 1840 census, matching the age range for
Thérèse's husband, but there is no matching female in the age range where we
should find Thérèse. There is an older female in the age range 50-60. It
is unclear why Thérèse would not have been in this hosuehold, since she was
obviously alive at the later date mentioned in the record above, and was named
as an heir, presumably in the stead of Félicité's son Louis, who died in
1848. She was enumerated with her two children in the 1850 census. She
married W D Hare (Hair) in 1860.

1850 Federal Census, Arkansas County, Arkansas, 25 October, Old River

Frances Dumas [Dumond] 8 F b Arkansas [b abt 1842]
Louis Dumas [Dumond] 7 M b Arkansas [b abt 1843]
Mary Dumas 4 F b Arkansas [b abt 1846]

By 1860, Thérèse marrired W D Hare. They were enumerated as a family in Old
River Township of Arkansas County, but in two different households. But this
is because they married less than a month before the census, and apparently
have not yet figured out how to combine their families and dwellings.

The enumerator also erred, reporting the same age for W D and his son, as 27
years old! W D Sr's age should be about 47.
