Her grave has Macie Mae. At least one genealogy has her name as Macie Permilia, matching the middle initial P in 1910 and 1920. 1920 Federal Census, Washita County, Oklahoma, 17 January, Mountain View, District 192, page 5B, Hse #77, Fam #78 Dorell, Harvy M Head Rents M W 41 Married AR AR AR Farmer [b abt 1878] Dorell, Sofie Wife F W 41 Married AR AR MO [b abt 1878] Dorell, Macie P Dau F W 18 Single AR AR KY Housekeeping [b abt 1901] Dorell, Grace E Dau F W 16 Single AR AR AR [b abt 1903] Dorell, Ben W Son M W 13yrs1mo Single AR AR AR [b abt 1875] Dorell, Mabel Dau F W 11yrs1mo Single AR AR AR [b abt 1898] Dorell, Orval C Son M W 9yrs1mo Single AR AR AR [b abt 1900] Dorell, Ottie M Son M W 5yrs6mo Single AR AR AR [b abt 1904] Dorell, Haskell H Son M W 1yr4mos Single AR AR AR [b abt 1918] 1930 Federal Census, Washita County, Oklahoma, 14 April, Oakdale Township, District 17, page 5B, Hse #148, Fam #158 Christian, Joe Head Owns Farm, Does not owns a radio M W 44 First Married at age 21 TX MS MS Farmer [b abt 1886] Christian, Macey Wife F W 28 First Married at age 27 AR AR AR [b abt 1902] Christian, Melvin C Son M W 19 OK TX OK Farm Laborer [b abt 1911] Christian, Alvin Son M W 14 OK TX OK [b abt 1916] Christian, Woodroe Son M W 12 OK TX OK [b abt 1911] Christian, Juanita Dau F W 10 OK TX OK [b abt 1911] Christian, Tern (Fern) Dau F W 5mos OK TX OK [b abt Oct 1929] Ancestry.com mistranscribes Macey's name as Mary. The name Macey matches the name Macie, which Oscar reported as his contact on his 1942 WWII draft card, with the same home address as his. Macey had been married to Joe Christian just about a year or less at the time of this 1930 census. There is some possibility that the last child here is Macey's child. The age at marriage could work if she is close to her 29th birthday at census time. In the 1935 Tuscon, Arizona, City Directory, Joe is reported without a wife. However, Oscar reported his contact in 1942 as Macie Christian, at this same home address. So where was Macie/Macey in 1935? In the 1940 census they were reported in Hobart, not far away in the same county. 1940 Federal Census, Washita County, Arkansas, 3 April, Hobart Ward 4, District 38-13a Page 2B, 805 S Monroe, Hse #33, Rents $4 Christian, Joseph Head M W 53 Single Grade 6 b Texas Mt View Kiowa Co OK in 1935 farmer [b abt 1887] Christian, Macie Wife F W 38 Married Grade 8 b Arkansas Mt View Kiowa Co OK in 1935 [b abt 1902] Christian, Fern Dau F W 10 Grade 3 b Oklahoma Mt View Kiowa Co OK in 1935 [b abt 1930] Christian, Laverne Son M W 8 Single Grade 0 b Oklahoma Mt View Kiowa Co OK in 1935 [b abt 1932] Christian, Kenneth Son M W 6 Single Grade 0 b Oklahoma Mt View Kiowa Co OK in 1935 [b abt 1934] Christian, Letrise Joy Dau F W 3 Single Grade 0 b Oklahoma [b abt 1937] Christian, James Son M W 11mos Single Grade 0 b Oklahoma [b abt 1939] In his WWII draft card, Oscar reported Macie as his wife. "My grandmother always had said that there was Cherokee Indian in her line. We have never been able to prove that. However as I research the Franklin line I hear many references to that same mystery. Easom and Luvina Forrester are parents of Esom Franklin (1817) who married Susan Collier. Their daughter Mariah Franklin (1850) married John Baptiste Dorway who is my Great Grandfather. My grandmother Violet Dorway was the one who always told us that she was part Cherokee." -- "tlm002200," Ancestry Discussion Group, 08 January 2011

This means they moved to Arkansas about 1837, matching the dates for William G Dorsey (Dossey). Polly's father next door seems to have moved with them. The last child of William Dorsey (Dossey) next door, Sarah, is 14 and born in Alabama. This means William moved his family to Arkansas after Sarah was born in about 1836, matching the information from the Briscoe census. The family name may be Dorsey instead of Dossey, as appears on the marriage certificate. In 1850 living next door to James W Briscoe and his wife Polly (Mary) Briscoe is William G Dorsey, who appears to be Mary's father. Two teenaged daughters are still in the household of widowed William Dorsey. 1850 Federal Census, Sevier County, Arkansas, 18 October, Madison Township, p 422, Hse/Fam #345 William G Dorsey 46 M Farmer b SC [born abt 1804] Elizabeth Dorsey 16 AL [born abt 1804] Sarah Dorsey 14 M AL [born abt 1836] From 1850, there are Dorseys that live near the Briscoes, and Dorsey is a given name among the Briscoe line in later generations. A couple of houses away is also Joseph Dorsey, who appears to be Mary's younger brother. Some genealogies also report his last name as Dossey. He is reported to have died in Limestone, Texas. Their parents moved on to San Antonio and died there. 1850 Federal Census, Sevier County, Arkansas, 18 October, Madison Township, p 422, Hse/Fam #342 Joseph Dorsey 25 M Farmer $0 Real Estate b Alabama [born abt 1825] Mary Dorsey 22 Tennessee [born abt 1828] James Dorsey 7 M Arkansas [born abt 1843] Mary I Dorsey 3 F Arkansas [born abt 1847] William G Dorsey 5mos M Arkansas [born abt June 1850] But a marriage record appears to match this William G, with the name William G Dossey, born in 1790, which matches the age of William G Dorsey, who lives next door to Mary Dossey Briscoe in Sevier County, Arkansas. The birth in South Carolina also matches. "Dossey" or "Dawsey," as the name is sometimes found with the phonetic spelling, matches the Southern genteel pronunciation of the name spelled Dorsey. The spelling of the actual proununciation of Dorsey led to it becoming a seprate surname spelled Dossey. US. and International Marriage Records, 1560-1900 William G Dossey Gender Male Birth 1790 SC Some family genealogies report his full name as William Greenberry Dossey. Though the following marriage record appears to be for Mary's father, and has a middle initial G, it seems odd that his middle name is Greenberry, when this is the mainden name of his wife. William Dossey Birth 1787 in South Carolina Death 1860 in San Antonio, Bexar, Texas Parents: William Dossey 1760 - 1792 Mary Greenberry 1767 - 1792 Marriage to Mrs. William G (Cherokee Maiden) Dossey 1809 Morgan, Alabama -- Standlee/Roberts, http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/11449671/person/-396976483 Mary Dorsey/Dossey died before 1854, when James married his second wife, the widow Margaret Parker Nauls/Knaules/Knolles in Sevier County, Arkanass. Some genealogies report Mary's date of death as the year 1852, but provide no documentation. Some report the year as 1851, again with no documentation. I have found no record on her death or burial, but it would have been in Sevier County, Arkansas.

"I believe Gardner Green married the daughter of Chief Doublehead. Nancy Doublehead aka Alnenee Talliutsuve. Gardner Green shows up as a lieutenant in the revolutionary war fighting for Britain. As many Indians did side with Britain. I find some Indians fighting under him such as Edward Vann, Joseph Vann and Martin Cloud. These Vanns are very well documented and their home is a museum in Georgia. There are also several other families connected to my Greens that migrated down to Indian Territory that fought under Gardner Green. We can take a look at what was going on in history at that time such as assimilation of Indians or exclusion of Indians, in order to gather the true facts." -- Troy Sims, email to Orville Boyd Jenkins, 29 January 2015
