Notes for William EMMONS

William was born in Virgnia. A marriage record tha matches him seems to
indicte that William's first marriage occurred in 1816 Giles County, Virginia,
which was founded in 1806. Giles County borders three West Virginia Counties.

Virginia, Compiled Marriages, 1740-1850

Spouse Name Alice Kirk
Marriage 5 Mar 1816 Giles County, Virginia

The followng census seems to represent William in Fleming County, Kentucky.
All the children named in the 1860 census were born after this census of 1830.
We lack names for any children represented in the age categories of the 1830
census.

After Alice died, William married Betsey Reeves, in about 1838, judging by the
age of the first child in the 1860 census. In the 1850 census, William was a
widow with a household full of children from age 20 down to age 2.

Willliam married a young woman less than half his age named Anfield Gregory.
The Gregory and Emmmons families probably had known each other a while. We

The last two children here would be Anfield's, since they married in 1852.
Note that Anfield is only 9 years older than William's oldest child still in
the household. The identity of Missouri Reeves is unknown.

In the 1880 census, Anfield is reported ass a widow with the surname Roys,
probably an attempt to represent her second married name of Rice. Her married
name in 1870 was Rice.

Ages of the children correlated with marrriage information indicates that
William and Martha Jane are the children of Alice Kirk, then after an
eight-year gap, the next child Benjamin would be the son of Betsey Reeves,
along with the rest of the children. Note that Helen N was named Helen
Virginia in 1850. We have no indication what the initial N here might refer
to.

Since the youngest child is reported as age 2, and so born about 1848, it
appears that Betsey Reeves died about 1849 or early 1850. Since Susan is
entered at the end of the list of children, it makes it seem that Susan is the
wife of William Jr.
