CYRIL EYNON
Cyril O. Eynon of Fairfax, longtime Musicians Union business representative,
died yesterday in a local hospital after a short illness. He was 71. Eynon was
born in Salt Lake City, where he began a musical career, playing the saxophone
with Red Nichols and His Five Pennies.

For many years he played in San Francisco at the Curran Theater and at such
events as the Ice Follies. In addition, he had been business representative in
Marin County for the Musicians Union Local No. 6 of San Francisco for 17 years
before retiring from that job last year. Eynon continued a locksmith-musical
instrument repair business in Fairfax until his death. He had lived in Marin
25 years.

The family home is at 17 Madrone Court. Eynon is survived by his wife,
Cecelia; a daughter, Mrs. Karil Andrews of Mill Valley; two sisters, Mrs.
Muriel Kockisch of Terra Linda and Mrs. Louise Walker of Long Beach, and a
brother, Eyrick Eynon of Sonoma.

Memorial service will be at 4:30 p.m. Friday at the Chapel of the Hills in San
Anselmo. The family prefers memorial contributions to the Marin County Heart
Association.

I found the 1930 census through the name of Betty Louise Carey, with her
stepmother Muriel Eynon Carey in 1930. From the details of this census, where
Muriel is living with her brother Eurich, I found their Eynon family in 1820
before either Eurich or Muriel had been married. Clues led to censuses
turning up in reverse order, but filling in a bit more detail as we went back
in time.

There are several discrepancies, but important critical facts unusual about
this family match exactly, like the mother (Alice) being born in England, the
father in Wisconsin and all the children in Utah. The age and name for F
Louise does not match Muriel B, which I was tempted to identify as the same
child, knowing of only two children originally. But the 1910 census clarifies
there were two daughters, whose ages in 1910 match later info on each in
separate censuses.

The 1910 census confirms and fills in many details, when we find ages
consistent with the 1920 ages for Eyrick and Cyril. This census clarifies
that there were two daughters Muriel (spelled Murill here) and two sons, the
twins.

Carey, Betty Lou Niece F W 7 Dist of Utah Utah Utah [b abt 1923]

Note that even though Eurich is reported as 21 years old, this also says he
was first married at age 23! From what we find in earlier censuses (which
were found later) his age in 1930 hould have been 27. But his wife Eva is
reported as being 21 and marrying at 18. Going by this, married three years
ago, Eyrick's age would be 26 or 27.

This information led to a 1920 census that seems to represent this family.
There are a few discrepancies and questions that come up. Muriel's brother
Eurich matches pretty well, with the name spelled Eyrick, and the same unusual
middle initial of V. The clincher seems to be that Alice Eynon was born in
England and the children's father in Wisconsin, as in the 1930 census. All
the children were born in Utah, as in 1920.

Though these critical details match, there are some discrepancies in ages.
Eyrick V is 17 in 1920 and Eurich V only 21, instead of 27 in 1930. The
unusual facts about the parents, however, would seem to make this a sure
match. But we learn here also that Eurich had a twin brother, Cyril O.

Knowing of two children from the 1930 census, I expected Louise to match
Muriel. But ages and different initials made this problematic. It became
clear when I discovered the 1910 census indicating two daughters and the twin
sons. More detail was filled in with each successive step back in time as the
records turned up in searches. Muriel's age was also reported as 10 years too
young in the 1930 census, further throwing off the identification. She was 11
years old in 1910.

1920 Federal Census, Salt Lake County, Utah, 14 January, Salt Lake City,

Muriel's age in 1910 does not match her age in the 1930 census, when she and
her brother Eyrick are both reported as 21. He should be 27 and she should be
31. She was already 11 years old in 1910. I think that should be the
definitive reference point. So she is reported as 10 years younger than she
should be in 1930!

Louise's age matches 1920 census age. The agreement on the twins' age in 1910
and 1920 makes up for the discrepancy in Eyrick's age in the 1930 census.

Notes for Thomas H EYNON

Thomas is enumerated in the 1841 census of Pembrokeshire County, Wales. It is
not clear is Esther Eynon is his wife or perhaps a sister Esther. An older
Elizabeth Morgan is only about 15 years older than Thomas and Elizabeth, with
a 6-year-old girl of the same last name, and a 15-year-old Elizabeth Evans.
From what we know about his wife, it appears that Esther is another Eynon
family members, not his wife.

Notes for James L FAIN

The name Nannie Lawton on one of her photos in her sister's collection made us
think that Nannie Terry married someone named Lawton. In early 2013, when I
found this photo among those my father had left me, I had no information about
Nannie's husband, and could not find anything in searches. Her sister, Julia
Virginia Terry Jenkins, had written her name on the back of the photo as
Nannie Lawton.

Nannie's was listed as a survivor in her mother's 1932 obituary, under the
name Nannie Fain, living in Lawton. This seemed to indicate that Lawton on
the photo was a location, not Nannie's married name. A marriage record was
found in Bell County Texas of Nannie Terry to Jim Fain. This was only an
index record, which did not have a photo of the actual certificate or record.

Texas, Select County Marriage Index, 1837-1965
Nannie Terry
Jim Fain
Marriage 12 Jan 1925 Bell, Texas, United States
Jim and his wife Nannie were lsited in several Lawton, Oklahoma, city
directories.

They are found the next year in Lawton, Comanche County, in southern Oklahoma.

U.S. City Directories, 1822-1995
Lawton, Oklahoma, City Directory, 1926, p 92
Fain James (Nannie) oil h 704 E av

U.S. City Directories, 1822-1995
Lawton, Oklahoma, City Directory, 1930, p 91
Fain James L (Nannie) farmer h 315 1/2 D av

This James L Fain seems to be the same person as reported in a 1920 census in
Lawton. He was single and boarding in a rooming house there, working as an
oil land agent. The age reported in this record indicates he was born about
1881.

Notes for Guesswho FANNELL

The name Fannell comes from the 1910 census entry for Abbie Grubbs, who is in
her parents home enumerated under the name of Abbie Fannell, with her
daughter. Abbie is reported as Married, but no husband is reported in the
household. From her daughter record, we can tell Abbie's husband was born in
Mississippi. We can assume they were of a similar age, and estimate his birth
about 1879.

Willie was reported as a male and son in 1910, female and daughter in 1920.
Leo was female and daughter in 1910, but male and son in 1920. Note that from
these censuses the origin of Robert's wife Lucy is uncertain. In 1910 she is
reported as born in Arkansas, as well as both parents. But note that the
parents of the children there is reported as born in Arkansas

This makes it look like Lucy is not the mother of any of these children. But
other factors discount that. Then in 1920, we see she is reported as born
Texas, with her father born in Missouri and mother born in Texas. The
children's report is consistent with this, reporting their mother born in
Texas.

Details on the birth of Robert seem consistent. We might think again that
this Lucy E is a different person, but the same name and similar age seem to
make nonsense of that possibility. Also because the age is one year less in
1920, this makes it appear that her birthday is between January (1920 census
date) and May (1910 census date). Leo Earl was the youngest child of his
parents.

Included here are three city directories lisitng Leo and Omie. There are
several other similar ones in this period between 1949 and 1968.

Came from Eureka Springs AR area by wagon train in 1892 ..... same train as
John Washington Wood and Thomas B. Fanning. There was sickness along the Red
River when they went to cross so they had to go a days journey out of the way
to find a low area and crossed away from the main trail. They spent the winter
near Sherman, Texas. Robert is said to be the only boy left at home with lots
of sisters and was spoiled. He and Lucy separated for awhile due to family
interference and when they got back together they migrated to Texas. Texas
was a wild and fairly unsettled area when they arrived and the children were
not allowed to play outside without supervision because of the wild animals
which posed a danger. Per Virginia Brown
