In the 1880 census, Louisa's age is reported as 28, which would mean birth in
about 1851 or 1852. Her reported age in the 1910 census below was 59,
matching birth in abotu 1850 or 1851. Yet she was reported in the 1850
census, reported as age 1 already at that point. So she was born some time in
1849 or depending on her birth date, even 1848.

The 1900 census reports her birth date as May 1850, which would be before the
June date of the 1850 census. The actual date the simmons houseehold
enumerated was in December, so they may have figured the age from December,
instead of of as of census date of 1 June 1900. But even then she would not
have been 1 year old, but only 6 months old.

For some reason, the 1900 census is usually off by one year, probably due to
the math approach they took. The month is probably correct, which appears to
bean answer to a direct question. It appears the enumerator would work out
the birth yeart form the age, leading to the wrong year. SInce she was 1 year
old, the year appears to be 1849, not 1850.

Louisa did not marry until she was about 29 years old.

The transcription of this census by Ancestry has mistranscribed Louisa's name
as Louiza R instead of Louiza A. Some genealogies have her middle name as
Anserdena but have no documentation. I have found no documentaton of the
middle name. It is also spelled Louiza or Luiza by some other enumerators.

Notes for Mary GIBSON

Several genealogies report Mary's maiden name as Gibson. Many also have her
name as Mary Polly, perhaps not realizing that Polly is the common nickname
for Mary. I have found no record to document her maiden name, but am
following those genealogies in naming her Gibson.

Leonard Terry's marriage record is found on page 101 of Floyd County,
Kentucky, marriage records. But there is no date and no bride's name, as is
the case with most of the records on that page.

Two other records lower down on this page have a marriage date in April and
May 1819. So Leonard and Mary married before April 1819. Some genealogies
have an exact date of marriage, but provide no further documentation.

In 1860 Mary is enumerated in the household her son of Isom/Isham under her
nickname of Polly. Since only Polly is in this household, it would seem that
Leonard died before the 1860 census. I have found no documentation of Leonard
Terry's death and burial. I posited that he died after moving with his son to
Arkansas, but researcher June Yeager suggests Leonard died soon after the 1950
census, before Isom and his mother moved to Madison County, Arkansas.

Notes for Mary S GIBSON

Mary S Gibson was the oldest child we have record of from the marriage of Sarah
Morgan to Charles S Gibson. She is recorded with her parents in the 1850
census in Washington County, Illinois.

She was already married with a family in 1860. It appears that the person
recorded as Joseph was her husband known as Joshua from family information
found in Pugh genealogies. The details match otherwise with Joshua and Mary
(Gibson) Pugh. Perhaps his name was Joshua Joseph, or the enumerator might
have simply made an error in recording the name Joshua.

Joshua and Mary had another daughter in about 1863-64, named Ella. We find
her in her grandparents home in Hill County, Texas, which would seem to
indicate that both her parents had died before the 1880 census. Ella was also
born in Illinois as were her older siblings reported in the 1860 census. It
is possible her parents had already moved to Texas before their death. The
first Pugh genealogy I found on this family does not have death dates or
places for either Joshua or Mary.

A few days later I found another genealogy with good detail on many of this
family, including the information that Joshua and Mary were divorced. This
genealogy states that several relatives had sworn that the couple had
divorced, but the records were destroyed in a fire. This researcher does not
provide a date for the divorce.
"There are several affiants from brother David C Pugh and sister Leah Martel
that they were divorced and that the records were burned in a courthouse
fire."
--

This family tree also provides information on two later marriages of Joshua,
one in Illinois and the other in Texas, not long before he died of consumption
in 1886. See these details in the Notes for Joshua B Pugh.

I find no record of Mary S (Gibson) Pugh after the 1860 census. We find the
third daughter Ella in the 1880 census where she is still single and living
with her grandmother and stepgrandfather in Hill County, Texas.

Notes for Nancy Jane GIBSON

Nancy Jane was the daughter of Charles S Gibson and Sarah Morgan Gibson. After
her father's death, her mother married Jorile Barnett, who had moved in to
Washington County, Illinois, from Tennessee after the death of his second wife
Nancy Powell. Nancy Jane later married Jorile's son Francis M (Frank).

Frank (F M) and Nancy (N J) are recorded in the 1880 census for HIll County

Nancy Jane's gravestone reports her date of death as 5 April 1891. I find,
however, that an affidavit sworn in 1926 related to this family reports her
death as 2 April 1891. Perhaps the earlier date is the date of death, and the
later one the date of burial, which was reported on the gravestone. I have
seen this happen in other cases. The affidavit, sworn in regard to
inheritance of a certain plot of land, reports many details on Francis Marion
and Nancy Jane and their children. Thanks to Barbara Stevens for sharing this
document with me.

This document also reports that Frances Jane lost 5 children in infancy. In
the affidavit she is referred to as Jane Barnett:
"F. M. Barnett and Jane Barnett had born to them twelve children, five of same
having died in infancy and seven having reached maturity."

Notes for Caroline Mabel GILBERT

Sources that appear to be for the same Benjamin Franklin Christian report birth
date around 1817 or 1818.

B F Christian 43 M Farmer $4500 Real Estate Value $522 Personal Estate b Tenn

C M Christian 40 F b Pennsylvania [b abt 1820]

It seems that C M's maiden name was Gilbert. Another researcher had found the
name C M Gilbert as the wife of Joseph Benjamin Christian, who seems to be B
F's son. Some genealogies have confused Joseph Benjamin Christian Sr with his
father Benjamin Franklin Christian. The details may still lead to further
clarification, but right now it appears that is the scenario. Dates and
relationships do not match otherwise. This is a line of enquiry that should
be followed.

"My investigation has identified Benjamin Franklin Christian. first wife (CM)
as Caroline Mabel Gilbert (1820 PA - 1863 TX)."
-- Loyd Keith Farris, Ancestry Messaging to Orville Boyd Jenkins, 10 March
2017

A couple of genealogies have the marriage connection for B F and this Caroline
Mabel Gilbert, but the records they attach are uncertain concerning Caroline's
identity. A marriage record in Tennessee is attached in some genealogies for
a marriage of a B F Christian and a Caroline Carr. These genealogies identify
this Caroline Carr as originally Caroline Mabel Gilbert, born in Pennsylvania,
which matches the wife of B F Christian in Fannin County in 1860.

But our B F Christian in Fannin County, is reported born in Texas, rather than
Tennessee, where his parents were from. Birth states are often wrong in the
censuses, so this is not definitive. But other factors make this a difficult
match, so this Tennessee marriage couple may be a different couple than we are
looking for.

But the marriage year 1839 was my first cause for concern, since other factors
indicate that Joseph Benjamin Christian was born about 1835. I need to keep
looking further for our B F Christian and his wife CM, who may indeed be
Caroline Mabel Gilbert. There are still many gaps and details needed to fully
reconstruct the lives of these individuals.

Another record for a Caroline Carr who may be the same person, was reported in
the records of the Quaker community in Buckinghamshire, Pennsylvania, where
she died. That Caroline Carr died in 1865, while the same genealogies report
that our Caroline Gilbert Christian died in 1863.

All these factors would indicate that the Caroline Carr in Pennsylvania was a
probably different person from the Caroline Carr in the Quaker records, unless
she went back there at some point and where she died in Pennsylvania. But
this does not seem to connect with anyone who moved to Texas. It seems likely
a simple name association, rather than a continuity of identity.

B F (Benjamin Franklin) was a common name in the Christian line(s) we run
into, like the B F and Lavinia in Atchison, Missouri, who were also originally
from Tennessee, but lived and died in Missouri, where they are buried.

The 1910 census reports him under the more common nmae of Frank, and reports
his wife as Martha. Intersting, sicne this was the name of his first wiffe
(nickname Mattie). But the age and states of birth indicate this Martha is
the same individual as the wife Margaret form 1900. But note that it is
reported that "number of years of present marriage" are 26! When we know from
other sources and the 1900 census that Frank and hsi second wife married only
abotu 1898 or 1899, being married only 1 year in 1900.

They are supposed to have been married 26 years. Maybe the enumerator put the
total number of years married from the first marriage. But that doesnot match
the first marriage either, since Frank and Mattie got matrried in 1887, 23
years before.

The number of Martha's children here match with Margaret of 1900 also, sicne
thes last three Gilbert chidlren are hers and the fourth would be her son
Robert Ward, enumerated in the 1900 census as Isaac's (Frank's) stepson.

Buddie at age 9, seems to match closest with the 19-year-old child named
Thadeus in the 1910 census. Another child Willie, probably short for William,
at age 10, does not appear in the 1910 census. He would llikely have been
maried and away in his own household.

Mable should be spelled MABEL.

Mabel was born March 4, 1797 in North Carolina's cession that became Dickson
County, Tennessee. He was the son of William and Nancy Morris. His siblings
were Wilson, Henry Madison, Thomas G., Nathan, James Monroe, William and a

Fannin County, Texas in 1837. They had 13 children. He next married the

1855. She had one son; they had eight children. Mabel died March 1, 1870 and
his sons made a coffin and buried him east of their home on Glbert Creek. No
exact location is known.

Mabel is a true Texas pioneer and settler. He was a Texas Ranger, Indian

grist and steam mills in Fannin County. He helped establish Bird's Fort, the
first settlement in Tarrant County in 1841. He was the first white man known

east bank of the Trinity River. He estableished a grsit mill, a flour mill and

From Barbara Elliott

He has honored the Gilbert name and prepared the way for great settlements.

Mabel Gilbert is not buried in Whiterock Cemetery. He is buried on his old
homestead in Wichita County, Texas. It is currently the Perkins Boy Scout
Ranch. There is an historical marker there next to a replica of the old log
house he lived in. The actual site of the grave is unknown. Mabel was my 4x
great grandfather.
