"My first find was in the 1860 Parker County mortality pages, stating that Isaac Teter, age 60, born in Illinois, died of pneumonia in January 1860, after being sick one week, was a married farmer who lived in Parker County. By the births of his children, I knew his wife died about 1850; this took a little more searching, but found her as Susan Leter, age 47, born in Kentucky, died in February 1850 of lung fever after eight days in Mason County, Illinois. Isaac married again and brought his family to Parker County by 1855. -- Evlyn Broumley, Kissin' Kin column, Weatherford Democrat, date and page unknown
The Greenes are associated with a town called Norton. Some genealogies report that various Greenes are born in Norton, Northumberland, and others Norton in Southern Northhamptonshire. I have not been able to locate a town of Norton in Northumberland. The Northamptonshire Norton is located in Daventry District of Northamptonshire in the English Midlands, while Northumberland is a northern border area. The full name of the town is Greene's Norton, or Greens Norton, since it has been Greene property and country since the 1300s. Thomas' son Thomas is interestingly reported as born in Norton, Oxfordshire, which may be a simple coincidence, or may be a confusion of the town of Chipping Norton in western Oxfordshire with Greene's Norton. "In medieval times, the village was known a simply 'Norton' and was a royal domain of Edward the Confessor and later William the Conqueror. In the 14th century the whole village was sold to Sir Henry Greene for a total of 20 shillings hence the name Greene's Norton, which today is reduced to just Greens Norton." -- Wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greens_Norton U.S. and International Marriage Records, 1560-1900 Sir Thomas Greene Gender: Male Spouse Name: Mary Talbot
The place of brith reported in some genealogies for Thomas is very interesting. They say he was born in Norton, Oxfordshire. This may be a confusion of the town of Chipping Norton in western Oxfordshire with Greene's Norton, in Northamptonshire. The Greenes are associated with a town called Greene's Norton, or Greens Norton, so-called because the whole town was sold to a Greene ancestor in the 1300s. "In medieval times, the village was known a simply 'Norton' and was a royal domain of Edward the Confessor and later William the Conqueror. In the 14th century the whole village was sold to Sir Henry Greene for a total of 20 shillings hence the name Greene's Norton, which today is reduced to just Greens Norton." -- Wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greens_Norton Thomas was the last Lord Earl of Northampton Knighted, Lord of Boughton, Last Earl of Northhampton (Extinct 1462). Created companion of The Most Honorable Order of Bath, by HRM Edward IV, in 1461. High Sheriff of Northamptonshire in 1458. Buried at Green's Norton. Some genealogies have his wife as Philippa Ferrers. Tehre is a marriage record, but no dates are places, or other identifying specifics. So Esther's birth date was actually about March 1880, not 1881, as the 1900 census reports. Also, ML in the 1880 census matches the daughter Molly L, who is not named in the 1900 census, and is most closely matched by Miinnie E, with a birth date reported in 1900 as August 1879. But we have additional records for both Minnie and Molly in later years. M L's age in 1880 more closely matches most records we have for Minnie otherwise.
