Notes for Elizabeth Mildred LASITER

I first found Elizabeth as the second wife of John Briscoe in the 1860 census
of Hunt County, Texas, with two children named Medling from her previous
marriage. She is reported born in Tennessee.

1860 Federal Census, Hunt County, Texas, 3 October, Precinct 8, P O
Farmersville Collin County, p 39 (scan 340), Hse/Fam #985
John Briscoe 45 M Stock Raiser $1280 Real Estate $10000 Personal Born Virginia

Ephraim Briscoe 11 M b Texas [born abt 1849]
Theodocia Medling 7 F b Tenn [born abt 1853]
Mary W Medling 5 F b Texas [born abt 1858]

I checked on Medling names from Tennessee, and found a sparse genealogy
listing a Caswell Medling, born in Rutherford County, Tennessee, in 1830.
This reported that Caswell had died in Texas, but no county or date was
mentioned and no documentation was given. This genealogy gave me the names
and dates of Caswell's parents but no spouse.

Caswell Medling
Birth 1830 in Milton, Rutherford, Tennessee, Death in Texas
Parents John Medlin 1792 - 1848, Sarah Susannah Lasater 1796 - 1845
-- Lyle, http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/5215144/person/1408509112?ssrc=&ftm=1

Checking out these clues, I found a marriage record in Rutherford County,
Tennessee for a William H Medling and Elizabeth Lasiter. Look at the marriage
date. This is about the time John Briscoe's wife Rebeca died. Elizabeth
Medling Briscoe's first daughter was born about 1853, so this would match
marriage in 1852. But how does the name William fit with Caswell? It sounds
like two different individuals. But I cannot find any individuals that fit
more closely.

These details led to a marriage record in Rutherford County that seemed to
fit, and the reference to the groom's name William Medling led to some other
genealogies with confirming information.

with Henry Davis.

precinct of Grayson County, is reported as a widow, living with his daughter

it.

Notes for Nofirstname LAWTON

The name Nannie Lawton on one of her photos in her sister's collection tells us
that Nannie Terry married someone named Lawton. In early 2013, when I found
this photo among those my father had left me, I had no information about
Nannie's husband, and could not find anything in searches. Her sister, Julia
Virginia Terry Jenkins, had written her name on the back of the photo as
Nannie Lawton.

No details are known about Herlewin (Herluin), father of Ralph of Hunstanton.

Notes for Matilda LE BRUN

Matilda was the heiress of Hunstanton. She is also referred to in some sources
as Maud de Hunstanton. When she married Roland Le Strange (Rolleus
Extraneus), the estate then passed into the Le Strange family and name. This
established the Le Strange family in Norfolk.

Dates for this couple given by the Hunstanton Le Strange Family Website are
earlier than those reported by the Hart-Corbet-Le Strange genealogy and
background information. No birth or death dates are given for Matilda, but
the marriage date is 1112, compared with 1141 given by the Hart Family
Website.

A couple of sources have Maud as the wife of John Le Strange I, but the weight
of facts and dominance of sources seem to indicate that Maud/Matilda was the
mother of John I and the husband of his father Roel.
