Hays, 96 Rev. Hendrix Hayes, 96, a resident of this community for the past 20 years and of the state since 1902, died here last Friday. His funeral was held Sunday afternoon in the chapel at Brown's funeral home. Rev. Hayes moved his family to a farm south of Lindsay in 1930. He was ordained to the ministry of the Baptist church about 60 years ago, and was active in the church until ill health forced him to retire. On Oct. 3, 1897, Rev. Hayes Married Miss Edna Eva Talburt at Mountain Home, Arkansas. In 1902 the family moved to Indian Territory. Most of the time since then has been spent in Garvin county and the Lindsay community. Among the survivors are his wife, Eva Hayes and eight children. Two sons, Ray and R. J., and one daughter, Mrs. Myrtle Cox live in the community. The other children are Ernest and F. C., who live in Oklahoma City; Mrs. Mabel Webb of Madill; Mrs. Amy Jo Zinn of Oklahoma City, and Mrs. Pearl McCoy of Ada. Other survivors include 15 grandchildren, two great-grand-children and one sister who lives in Fort Worth, Texas. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. B. J. Cherry. The place and time make sense for Oliver, but the bride's name here is Laura Hand, not Rebecca Annice Talburt. I have not found a marriage record in the name of Rebecca Annice Taburt. This same genealogy reports the only wife of Oliver Newton Hayes as Rebecca Annice Talburt, and gives the date of marriage as 10 March 1897. No source is given for this name or date. I found the correct marriage record in the same county for Annice and Oliver. This is 10 years before his marriage to Annice. The marriage record for Oliver (O N) and Annice (Annis) says they were married 3 October 1897. Note the first two children are reported born in Arkansas, and both their parents also. Arthur and Mary would be the children of Oliver's first wife. The problem is apparently an enumerator's error. He has reported the birth place of these two children's father as Arkansas, while Oliver himself is reported to have been born in Georgia. Note that in 1900 the birth state of the father is correct. Since this is Oliver's second marriage, these seem to be his children also, as we would expect. The father of all seven of Anice's children is reported correctly as born in Georgia. Some more details are provided by some genealogies that have some of their information documented.
