Find a Grave has Odessa Cemetery located in Lake Valley, Washita County,
Oklahoma. But some genealogies make reference to this cemetery as being in
Gotebo, which is in Kiowa County, south of Washita County. But listings
report it in Washita County. Gotebo and Lake Valley are equidistant from the
Kiowa-Washita county line. The location of Odessa Cemetery is stated as 5
miles nothwest from Gotebo.

Notes for Loice G HILL

Loice's age reports in the 1910 and 1920 census would make his birth in about
1900. He was not reported in the household in the 1900 census for this
family. So he must not have been born yet, as of June 1900.

when he was 21, which was about 1922. Their first child was born almost 7
years before the census, about August 1923. Census day was 1 April, but the
census was not taken t their home till 1 May, so it depends on whether they
counted her age from census date or actual date.

Notes for Marcus Gustavus HILL

M G is usually referrred to by his initials, but sometimes is found as Marcus
G. In the 1860 census he is Gustavus, in 1870 it is Augustus. From these
examples, we can see that the initial G is for Gus, a common nickname for
Augustus, but also for Gustavus. Since his name on his gravestone is M G, it
seems likely his real given name was Gustavus. But some genealogies follow
the one census report to call him Augustus. Later censuses report him as
Marcus G.

In the 1900 census, the first record for Mack, the entry was Mik or Mike, and
appeared to have a middle initial S. Howver, his nmae is reported on his FAG
memorial as McQueen C Hill, with nickname of Mack.

The 1900 census report of his birth in September matches his grave date of
September 1883. The age reported for him in1900 would make the year 1884, but
the enumerator strangely wrote 1888.

Note that in Naoma's record, the age reported does not match the reported
month of birth. If she was 5 months old at census time 1 June 1880, she was
born in December some time. If born in November, as reported, she would have
been 6 months old on 31 May 1880. Her SS and grave report her birth month as
October 1879, so going by that, her age in 1880 should have been 7 months.

Though the 1880 census record indicates her given name was Naoma, she reported
her name to Social Security as Oma. This is the name on her grave as well,
and in other records.

The middle name could indicate his middle name is actually Charles, and he
used Charlie for short. His son was named Charles Kerwyn. Some of the WWI
draft registration cards had a line for the place of birth, as well as the
date. This later form used by the time Oscar registered has only the birth
date.

In 1920, Oscar is out of his parents' home, but I have not located him in the
census. In his family's enumeration, Oscar's mother Parazade is reported with
her maiden name for her first name.

Oscar and Mable's daughter is in Oscar's household here. She is also
enumerated 7 days later in her mother's home along with her brother Charles
(Kerwyn). The second daughter's name here is unreadable, and transcribed by
Ancestry as Apres. This daughter is 12 years old here, thus born about 1928,
but she was not mentioned in the 1930 census. And in 1930 Oscar was in Fort
Cobb, married to Veva June's mother Mabel Jenkins Hill. Thus the 12-year-old
daughter must be the daughter of Francis (Frances) from her first
marriage.Julia is Oscar and Francis' daughter. This means they were married
about 1931.
