She is also known in some family references as Lizzy, another common nickname for Elizabeth. A death record in the name of Elizabeth Holbert is close to Eliza's information, but is in what would be her maiden name. This record tells us also that Eliza Holbert was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Census records report the birth state of Eliza Holbert Strange as Tennessee. There are some discrepancies here. The dates are close, with estimated date (from her age) birth reported in the record as 1875, while other sources say 29 August 1973 for our Eliza Holbert Strange. The year of death, 1911, matches, but the record has Oct 1911, while our Eliza's grave memorial (no photo provided) has Feb 1911. But this Elizabeth is reported as a widow, while the year of death on William Mack's burial memorial is 1922. Holbert may be her married name, and her other details are just coincidentally close to those of Elizabeth Holbert Strange. Tennessee, Deaths and Burials Index, 1874-1955 Elizabeth Holbert Birth Date abt 1875 Birth Place Spartanburg, S C Age 36, Death Oct 1911 Newport, Cocke, Tennessee Marital Status Widowed Occupation Washer Woman The actual record was found, and the date on that is uncertain. No actual date of death is found, only the date of recording. But the months is uncler. The closest this might have meant from the form would be August, but the letters do not look right for that either. Thre is a death certificate that in some ways matches Elizabeth Holbert Strange. The year of death matches. No exact date of death is reported on this certificate. But the name given is only Elizabeth Holbert, not her married name Elizabeth Strange. The age is about right, maybe off one year, but she is reported as a widow. And her husband William Mack Strange is reported to have died in 1922, thus surviving here. So it is uncertain who this individual is.
