I do not have William A's marriage of death information, but his parents Minor and Lucy Ann moved to Jefferson County, Arkansas, near Arkansas County where Ethel and Russell lived before moving to Texas. They moved to Arkansas soon after William A was born in 1858 and were enumerated in the 1860 census in Arkansas. William's parents died in Arkansas. Nine months prior to April 1895 would be about July 1894. The 1900 census reports his birth sate as April 1896, and his parents married 5 years, which matches. It is a question where the April 1895 date came from. Perhaps someone misread the year reported in the 1900 census. However, the census reports April but the California Death Index and John's WWI registration, transcribed below, report he was born in September 1896. In the 1900 census, Jane is married to William H Holden. In the 1910 census, Jane, lsited here as Janie C, is married to James Criswell. Two Holden children are listed with Janie in the household Criswell hosuehold. This was my fist awareness of the Holden marriage before I found the 1900 census only about 2 years later. The first child is Caldonia, age 9, and the second is entered as what looks like Wattie Holden, age 6. Caldonia is reported as Female, while the last child is reported as Male. THe transcription spelled this name Mattie, but I was sceptical, knowing that as a woman's name, short for Martha. A note in late December 2008 from a descendant indicates that Caldonia's brother's name is Mattie, rather than Wattie. I am thinking Mattie could be a nickname for Matthew. Checking ages we see that the daughter Ethel is 12 year older than John. Ethel is the child William's first wife Mary Wigley. No death record has been found for Mary. Jane and William have been married only 5 years. Ethel was born in Mississippi. John was born in Arkansas where William had moved, and where he married Jane. William's mother is reported as born in Mississippi, but on her own report she is reported as born in North Carolina. In the 1910 census, however, her birth state in South Carolina. Her last name Wigly [usually spelled Wiggly or Wiggley] tells us Margaret was widowed at least twice. Margaret's maiden name was Criswell. She was apparently widowed twice. In December 2010, I found Jerry Griffitt had linked this census to the Holden family in his genealogy. Griffitt provides some additional details on some of the children. He reports their marriage in 1895.
