The name varied in different sections of Harold K Christian's Jenkins Family History as Amanda Lucinda or Lucinda Amanda. In the 1910 census she is listed as Amanda L, which seems to indicate that Amanda was the first name. In 1930 she is listed as Mandy M, which I cannot account for. Her marriage license gives her name simply as Mandy Jenkins. Nieces and nephews called her Aunt Mandy. A comment by her daughter Annie Christian Tabor refers to her as Amanda Lucinda. -- R Christian GED Notes, Cited in J Epperson Genealogy, miscellaneous comments by Annie Christian Tabor. In the 1860 census all children were listed by initials only; she was listed as L. In the 1880 census she was listed simply as Lucinda. Her nickname was "Mandy" which might indicate the primary (first?) name was Amanda. I have noticed, however, that there is a common pattern in this Jenkins line to call children by their SECOND name, rather than the first. Epperson Family Genealogy records her name as Lucinda Amanda. One or two other genealogists report this name sequence. "It is just possible that Joseph's family lived in the Atlanta, Georgia, area when William, Lide and Amanda were born. Or perhaps they had relatives living in that area during the period they were receiving the paper. Later known as 'Bud,' William accompanied the family from Georgia to Cass County, Texas, ca 1860 [they were in the 1860 census in Cass County]" -- Jenkins Family History by Harold Keith Christian Online, http://objgenealogy.com/articles/josephsanfordjenkinshistory.pdf, p 5 1860 Federal Census, Cass County, Texas, 17 October, Beat #3, Post Office Unionville & Cusseta, Page 73, Hse #483, Fam #495 Jinkins Jno 32 M W Farmer 300 SC Cannot read and write Jinkins L 36 F W MS Jinkins L 1 F W GA I have not found her and father Joseph Sanford Jenkins' family in the 1870 census. It appears that the family were away from Cass County for a period of about 2-3 years. Joseph Sanford married Louisa Taylor Christian in February 1872. In the 1880 census, with her father and step mother, she was reported under the name Lucinda. 1880 Federal Census, Cass County, Texas, 16 June, District 12, Precinct 3, Page 17, House and Family #144 Jenkins, Joseph W M 52 Farmer SC SC SC Jenkins, Louisa W F 42 Wife Keeps House Miss Miss Ireland Jenkins, Lucinda W F 19 Daughter Farming Ga SC Miss Amanda's marriage license for marriage to William James Christian was issued on 1 November 1882, according to a transcription of the Cass County Marriage books by James Jackson (in spreadsheet format from James). J." "Jenkins, Amanda" Harold Christian reports this date and reports that the marriage took place in Naples. (Naples is just a few meters west of the Cass-Morris County line. Dalton, where the Jenkins and Christian families lived, is about 5 miles east of Naples.) Harold reports that on the same day in Naples, Amanda and married William James Christian and her sister Mary Lydia (or Lydie) married Thomas Jefferson Chapel. Jimmy Epperson reports the date of the marriage as 2 November 1882, one day after the issuance of the license. William and Mandy moved to Indian Territory about 1991, based on the birth dates reported for their children. They are reported in Washita County of the Territory in the 1900 census. But there are a lot of errors or discrepancies in the census, compared with other age or birthday reports. Henry was the first child born in Indian Territory, reported here as born in May 1892. I find it interesting that this census reports that all the children were born in Chickasaw Nation, the last in May 1898 or 1899. But by 1900 they are west of there in neighboring Oklahoma Territory for the census. Here she is enumerated under the name of Mandy. Here Mandy's birth place is reproted as Mississippi, rather than Georgia in the first two censuses. From here every census reports her birth place as Mississippi, with various birth places for her parents. 1900 Federal Census, Washita County, Oklahoma, 3 August, Union Township, District 211, page 13A, Hse/Fam #189 Willie Christain [sic] Head W M Oct 1857 42 Miss England GA Farmer Mandy Christain Wife W F Mar 1858 42 MS MS MS William Christain Son W M Oct 1886 13 TX England Miss Farmer Oscar Christain Son W M May 1887 (? 1882) 18 (?) All his siblings called him Bud. His nieces and nephews called him Uncle Bud. The name is spelled as Carthal in the Family Group Sheet from Harold K Christian. Two childhood censuses list him as Carthel. The cemetery listing gives the spelling as Carthal. This is one indication that this was the spelling used by the family. In May 2009, Bud's son Carthal Trent contacted me and his spelling of his name confirmed the correct spelling of Carthal. Bud's gravestone has only the initial C. In May 2007, Lou Ila Jenkins found some old family notes she wrote down, probably in the 1950s, but they contain no date or source info. This has the name of Bud and his son Trent spelled as Carthal. I found the Bud's death information from Bell County, Texas, also spells his name Carthal. Bud's son Trent, in giving me birth places of some members of his family, told me his father was born in Ft Cobb. But I see that three months after his birth, Joe and Jennie Jenkins were reported in the 1910 census in Marlow, in Stephens County, where his father was the City Marshall. They later lived in Mt View, Kiowa County, Oklahoma, and then were in Ft Cobb, Caddo County, following that, where they were reported in the 1930 census. In 1910, Bud was just a few months old. The enumerator reports his age as 3 months. But it appears they had not yet named the child at that point. He was still living in Chickasha, Grady County, Oklahoma, at the time of his death. Other family sources, including my cousin and Bud's nephew Harold K Christian, have no place of death, but report the date. However, I found out in May 2007, from his nephew Asa Lee, that he died in Temple, Texas, while in the Scott White Hospital. I later found the record in the Texas Death Index. His heart was weak from the effects of rheumatic fever he suffered as a child. He decided not to go through the operation to repair or replace one of the valves in his heart. They moved to Oklahoma City some years later, and Eyline apparently passed away and was buried there in another family plot. As of July 2014 I have not found the burial information for Eyline Lynch Wornom. Fairlawn Cemetery records report the date of burial as 19 October 1955. But we see from the death certificate, that was the date of death. The body was not removed from the hospital by the funeral home until 20 October. His obituary reports the burial was on 20 October. ---------------------------- Bud Jenkins Funeral Announcement Jenkins Rites Held In Church Funeral services for Arthur C. When Ben would leave on a drinking binge she had to find a way to make ends meet so she ran a boarding house on the property which is now Bellflower Chevrolet whom she sold it to. Then she moved on some property which the house she lived in was on and also three rentals. When I was in fourth grade, we lived in one [of the rental houses] as our house went through escrow. This information is relevent because it describes how she made a living, as a real estate agent. Grandpa Ben eventually was found for the last time on skid row in September of 1964, the reason I'm aware of this date is because he was at my first birthday party. They (I've been told) put me on his lap and as he was smiling proceeded to feed me his porterhouse steak. There was a picture taken of this but I'm not sure who has it at this point. After that he lived with Aunt Betty-Lou until he was put in a rest home on Ball Road in Anaheim, CA where he stayed until, as far as i know, he died. -- Richard Kevin Jenkins, email to Michelle Park and Orville Boyd Jenkins, 2 September 2018 -------------------- Betty Lou's real estate agency was in Artesia. Betty Lou Jenkins BIRTH 13 Feb 1926 Los Angeles County, California DEATH 10 May 1988 Los Angeles County, California BURIAL Rose Hills Memorial Park, Whittier, Los Angeles County, California Mother Lena Fairy Stinson Jenkins 1901-1987 Created by Stuart Strout Woodside Skolfield 20 Feb 2013 -- Find A Grave Memorial 105509147, https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/105509147 ------------------------------- One genealogy has reported her death as occurring in Camas, Washington, with the name Betty Lou Horn, wife of Jerrold Horn. But their marriage is reported as occurring in 1976, while we note that public records cited above indicate that in 1986, Betty Lou Jenkins Strickland was still living in Anaheim, California, and in 1993 she was living in Prescott Valley, Arizona, still under her first married name of Betty Lou Strickland. Additionally, we know from family sources that Mary Lou's father Ben lived with her for the last years of his life, and died in Anaheim in 1978. Betty Lou Horn's surviving brother was named in her obituary as James Jenkins. Ben and Lena had no son named James. Betty Lou Jenkins Horn in Washington is not our Betty Lou Jenkins Strickland. In addition, the birth dates of these two women differ. On Betty Lou Jenkins Horn's grave her birth date, as reported on her memorial on Find a Grave, is 6 Oct 1926. Betty Lou Jenkins Strickland was born on 13 February 1926. -------------------------------

Joseph Benjamin Jenkins, Jr, changed his name to Brian Jay. Reported to me by descendant Richard Kevin Jenkins. Also name is recorded as Brian Jay in the Epperson Genealogy. -- http://epperson.eppygen.org/FamilyTree/F684.htm I also received communication from Brian's son Bruce about family members. Bruce says Brian Jay is also known as Benjamin Jenkins. Brian Jay is reported in the 1920 census as Benjamin J. There is a conflict here with other family information. His son Bruce reports that his half-sister Sherry Dale is the daughter of Laverna Riddle. The conflict is that Sherry Dale was born in 1936, and is enumerated with her grandparents in Whittier, California, in the 1940 census. This is consistent with the 1940 report of Ben Jr's residence in 1935 in Whittier. In the 1940 census, 3-year-old Sherry was enumerated in the household of her mother's parents. 1940 Federal Census, Los Angeles County, California, 9 April, Whittier, District 19-815-A, page 3A, 515 N Comstock, Hse #69, Owns $3000 Riddle, Everett E Head M W 50 Married Grade 8 b Missouri Same place in 1935 No Occup Riddle, Dema Wife F W 47 Married Grade H-3 b Missouri Same place in 1935 Jenkins, Sherry D Dau F W 3 Grade 0 b California No location rptd in 1935 Laverna must have died before the 1940 census, though it has been suggested that they were divorced. in 1940 Brian (Ben) was reported as Single rather than Widowed or Divorced. Their marriage would have been about 1935 or very early 1936, based on Sherry's birth date in December 1936. "My momâs name was Janice Marie Farley.
