Some sources report that Harriet Jenkins Israel's father was William M or William Mannon Jenkins. Those that report a mother have the name of William's wife as Anna or Annie Scroggin. But most genealogies of William Mannon (or Manon) Jenkins have his wife as Mary (Polly) Cornet. And they show no other wife, and no child named Harriet. Harriet's father William Jenkins was not William Mannon Jenkins. I have been able to find no further information on Anna Scroggin or other info on birth or parentage of Harriet Jenkins Israel, other than the censuses here. The middle initial is reported differently in sources. He was called "Bud" by his family, so family references do not commonly reference either first or middle name. There are discrepancies in sources as to the middle name of William, as well as John Jenkins, whose middle initial was W. "It is just possible that Joseph's family lived in the Atlanta, Georgia, area when William, Lide and Amanda were born. Or perhaps they had relatives living in that area during the period they were receiving the paper. Later known as "Bud," William accompanied the family from Georgia to Cass County, Texas, ca 1860." -- Jenkins Family History by Harold Keith Christian, p 5, http://objgenealogy.com/articles/josephsanfordjenkinshistory.pdf Jimmy Epperson reports the middle initial as L. http://epperson.eppygen.org/FamilyTree/F014.htm In the 1860 census for Cass County, Texas, this child is reported as W L, which may be the source of the L initial in the Epperson compilation. 1860 Federal Census, Cass County, Texas, 17 October, Beat #3, Post Office Unionville & Cusseta, Page 73, Hse #483, Fam #495 Jinkins Jno 32 M W Farmer 300 SC Cannot read and write Jinkins L 36 F W MS Jinkins N 14 F W MS Attended school during the last year Jinkins J W 10 M W MS Attended school during the last year Jinkins W L 7 M W GA matches William S in family sources] Jinkins M L 3 F W GA Jinkins L 1 F W GA Harold K Christian, however, finds family information indicating that the son born in 1853 was William S. He appears in Cass county tax rolls as W S Jenkins. Sources do not indicate what either S or L might have stood for. It seems likely that the S was for Sanford, after his father. Sanford is a common middle name in several Jenkins lines in South or North Carolina. And it is the only name beginning with S in Joseph Sanford's family and descendants. William's mother died about 1868, and no census has been found for William's father and his children in 1870. It may be they were traveling to the east and back, based on a story in family tradition of events while they were traveling across the country for some time. In 1875, W S was listed in the Cass County Tax Roll, along with his father J S and J S's new wife Louisa Christian. But a census record in 1888 matches him in Morris County, the small county to the west of Cass County. It is not far from Dalton, and the Jenkins farm was west of there, it seems. One of William Jenkins' daughter was named Louisa, the name of William's stepmother, strengthening the likelihood that this is the same William Jenkins. At age 25, William would have been born about 1855. Joseph Sanford's son William was reported as age 7 in 1860, so born about 1853. Two years in age reports is close in censuses. But this William Jenkins in Morris County may be the son of another Jenkins enumerated on the same page, Charles Jenkins and his wife Lucy. Charles is reported as age 55 and Lucy as age 53, born in Georgia. William reported his birth state as Georgia, the same also as for William the son of Joseph Sanford. Charles reported his parents both born in Virginia, wile Joseph Sanford reported his parents both born in SC. This William's report is inconclusive, as he reported his father born in Georgia but his mother born in South Carolina, where Lucy reported both her parents were born. Thus the identity of William Jenkins in Morris County is inconclusive. ------------------- Family information indicates William died in Bowie, Texas, in Montague County. This is in north central Texas, along the Red River. Mary Lydie died farther west and south, in Cleburne, Johnson County, south of Fort Worth. Most of the information we have about the family is from Cass County, Texas. Harold Christian reports in his Jenkins Family History: "Sallie Christian said she once heard that Bud died while on a cattle drive from Texas to Kansas. This may have occurred in the summer of 1888. Sallie said she believed Bud was buried near Bowie, Texas." Bowie is on the Chisolm Trail, the major trail for cattle drives from Texas, to Abilene, Kansas. (At various points along the trail and in various historical references the name Chisolm is spelled various ways, including Chisam and Chisom.

His funeral will be held Saturday morning [Dec. 15, 1928] at the Methodist Church. ---------------------- ---------------------- Missouri Ledger, Odessa, Missouri, Dec. 21, 1928 IN MEMORY As one who wraps the drapery of his couch about him and his down to pleasant dreams, W.T. Jenkins, fell asleep the morning of Dec. 13th, to wake on earth no more. He was born near Louisville, Kentucky, May 3, 1854, and when a little lad came with his parents to Waverly, Lafayette County, Missouri and spent the rest of his life here. On Oct. 29, 1878, he was married to Miss Anna Richardson and seven children came to bless the home. Three died in early infancy and four to bring joy and pride to the hearts of the parents, who had lived for their church and their children, and then Clyde, their youngest born, died while away at college. For 43 years Mr. Jenkins and his family have lived in Odessa, where the father united with the M.E. Church South, and has been a devoted member ever since, seldom missing a service until compelled by the ill health that befell him a number of years ago. Mr. Jenkins was a loyal member of the I.O.O.F. for many years and a regular attendant until his ill health deprived him of the privilege. He was a man of quiet dignity attending to his own business, his whole heart centered on his home, his family and his church. Few parents have equalled Mr. & Mrs. Jenkins in their single-hearted efforts for the advancement of their family. After a friendship of nearly 40 years we feel it safe to say that a purer, cleaner, religious life was never spent before the people of Odessa than that of W.T. Jenkins. His years of illness have brought universal sympathy and now that he has entered into eternal rest his memory will be cherished, with tender respect. His death came unexpectedly from the infirmatives [infirmities] of old age, critical illness lasting only a few hours. A very beautiful funeral service for him was held at his church Saturday morning [Dec. 15, 1928], with his pastor in charge. The burial was in Odessa Cemetery. His wife, with whom he had spent a little more than a half-century of happiness, a daughter, Pearl; two sons, Forrest and Festus, survive him. Also three little grandsons. ---------------------- Burial Odessa Cemetery, Odessa, Lafayette County, Missouri Created by LVoyles Mar 26, 2007 -- Find A Grave Memorial #18634825, http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=18634825&ref=acom -------------------------------

He married Myrtis Ellamae Day on August 16, 1932 in Takoma Park, MD., Montgomery County. Wilmer owned a plumbing & heating business, and he flew a plane for a fish company. He spotted schools of fish for the menhaden fish boats. He loved music, and he would often sing duets or in quartets with other family members. On June 21, 1955, Wilmer was tragically killed while spotting fish when his plane collided with another small plane piloted by a fellow spotter pilot and friend Neil Jacobsen. The accident occured over the Chesapeake Bay. Wilmer and Myrtis have two children, Wilmyrna Lou Jenkins Smith and Wayne Vernon Jenkins. Obituary: A short graveside service and committal was conducted Tuesday afternoon [28 June 1955] by Elder C. L. Music was provided by William Bailey. The pallbearers were Rowland Sampson, Marion Pettibone, H. E. Dix, Sr., H. V. Roach, Lester Carney and Howard Sampson. Memorial services for the two airplane pilots, Wilmer V. Jenkins and Neil C. Jacobsen, were held Sunday afternoon [June 26] at the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Elder C. M. An estimated crowd of 600 persons attended the services with police reporting many others driving away for lack of space. Mr. Jenkins, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel C. Jenkins, was born September 21, 1907 at Foneswood. For a number of years he lived in Washington where he married Miss Myrtis Day on August 16, 1932.
