He covered North Texas, Southern Oklahoma and parts of Arkansas. Mr. Jones was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. He was an avid golfer for 59 years, an OU fan who enjoyed all sporting events. He also enjoyed his family vacations. Mr. Jones served in the U. S. Army from 1955 - 1957. Survivors include his wife, Pauline, of the home; a daughter, Debbie Painter and her husband David of Ada; son, Jerry Jones and his wife Tina of Ada; one grandson, Austin Painter of Stillwater; granddaughter, Jessica West and her husband Derek of Ada; a sister, Alta Ramsey of Shawnee; and two brothers, Richard Jones of Choctaw and Ozell Jones of Sasakwa. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother and sister-in-law, Derrell and Wanda Jones. Bearers will be Austin Painter, Derek West, David Painter, Charlie Price, Lee Jackson and James Hill. The memorial includes the text to the 1910 index information for this Clyde Jones, However, the name on the military footstone is Clyde B Jones, Jr. This person is misdentified. Note that the date of death is in 1923. We known Clyde Jones, son of Robert and Sicely (Ciscela) moved with his mother and family to Dallas, Texas, where he was enumerated with the family in 1930. That Clyde Jones is reported to have died in McKinney, Texas (north of Dallas in 1996.) With that designation on his gravestone, this person's father should be Clyde Jones Sr. Also, the memorial reports that Clyde Jones Jr was born in Prairie Landing Arkansas County, Arkansas. Prairie Landing is down in the southern part of the county, where I have seen no indication of the presence of Robert F Jones and his wife Siscela Ola Holden. Further the date of birth on this footstone is in 1905, whereas ages reported in three censuses match birth in about 1908 or 1909. Most glaring is the fact that Clyde moved to Dallas after the 1920 census, when his mother moved the family there after the death of Clyde's father. On the other hand, this burial is in DeWitt Cemetery near the original homeplace of this family in Ethel, near the White River in Arkansas County. Kenneth says his mother was born in Ethel (Prairie Township, Arkansas County) and is still living at age 88, now in Sherwood, Arkansas (a suburb of North Little Rock, in Pulaski County). In August Ken sent me more family data. This gives his mother's full name as Connie Louise. With this information I was able to make sense of an entry I had found some time before in the Arkansas Marriage Index, indicating a marriage of Wirt B McSwain to Connie Jones in 1938.
