"Another name in the will [of Drury Christian] jumped out at me: Joel T. Haley, related somehow to Margaret Connally Jones, married Thomas Jones's daughter Frances. Their great niece Lucy Cline wrote a stunning description (in RootsWeb entry for Russell T. Jones Sr.) of the glory that once was the Thomas Jones home, with seven large fireplaces and chimneys, by Fort Lamar on Athens Road, Georgia Hwy 106, outside Danielsville, Madison County, Georgia. Joel carved his 1802 birth date on top of the mantel in the front parlor. There was a Joel T. Haley Jr., then the Third. The family made it big in the grocery business in Chattanooga." -- James Jones, Ancestry Messaging to Orville Boyd Jenkins, 14 January 2018 "Mary Polly, one of Thomas's sisters, married Gen. Allen Daniel. This northern portion of Madison was once part of Franklin County, when Thomas's father, Russell T. Jones Sr., originally settled there. During the Revolution, when he was in the NC Light Dragoons, the family lived in Wilkes County, North Carolina, after their original home in Albemarle County, Virginia, in the vicinity of Monticello and Charlottesville, became overrun with the British. Russell was a bricklayer and building contractor as well as farmer. Jefferson biographer Dumas Malone said Jones boys were clients of young attorney Thomas Jefferson but neglected to say which ones and why they needed legal representation." -- James Jones, Ancestry Messaging to Orville Boyd Jenkins, 20 January 2018 1850 Federal Census, Madison County, Georgia, 21 September, Division 56, page 365-366 (scan 136-137), Hse/Fam #330 Joel Haily [sic] 48 M Farmer $3740 Real Estate b Georgia Frances Haly [sic] 40 F b Georgia William A Haley [sic] 22 M b Georgia Harriett E Haly 19 F b Georgia - page 366 - James F Haly 18 M Teacher b Georgia Nancy J Haly 16 F b Georgia Joel G Haly 13 M Teacher b Georgia Mary R Haly 11 F b Georgia Margaret A Haly 9 F b Georgia Robert W Haly 5 M b Georgia [Noname] Haly 1 F b Georgia Russel J Powell 19 M b Georgia Frances Haley Born 27 Jan 1810 Died 11 July 1873 Hickory Flat, Cherokee County, Georgia Photo courtesy of Travis Hancock, originally shared on Ancestry 19 Aug 2015
The 1900 census reports the eldest child of George and Maggie Jones as Annie L Jones, born in 1897. This matches no name in other records, but the birth date matches the child reported in 1910 as Fannie (nickname for Frances). It is likely she was named Frances Ann Jones, but what the L initial in 1900 stood for is unknown. It is likley an erroneous artifact of the enumerators entry. 1900 Federal Census, Arkansas County, Arkansas, 21 July, Prairie Township, District 7, page 15B, Hse #261, Fam #268 Jones, George W Head W M Feb 1873 27 married 4 years AR AR AR Farmer Jones, Maggie Wife W F Feb 1876 24 married 4 yrs 3 children/2 living IL IL IL Jones, Annie L Dau W F Feb 1897 3 Single AR AR IL Jones, Ida D Dau W F Sept 1898 1 Single AR AR IL 1910 Federal Census, Arkansas County, Arkansas, 23 April, Prairie Township, District 12, Page 6B, Hse/Fam #111 Jones, G W Head M W 38 Married 15 years AR AR AR Farmer Owns Jones, Maggie Wife F W 33 Married 15 years 7 children/7 living MS England AR Jones, Fannie Dau F W 13 Single AR AR MS Farm Laborer Jones, Iva Dau F W 11 Single AR AR MS Farm Laborer Jones, Fredrick Son M W 8 Single TX AR MS Farm Laborer Jones, Rubean [sic] Son M W 6 Single AR AR MS Jones, Allan Son M W 4 Single AR AR MS Jones, Henry Son M W 3 Single AR AR MS Jones, Millie Dau F W 8 months Single AR AR MS

George is the only child of the marriage of Minnie Lee Green Thompson to Claud James Jones. His birth year in genealogies and on his grave is 1910. But his mother did not marry Claud Jones until November 1910. He may have been born or conceived before the marriage. No exact date of birth has been found. In 1 January 1920, he was reported as only 8 years old, and the age of 19 reported in the 1930 census would be consistent with a birth date after April 1911. 1920 Federal Census, McClain County, Oklahoma, 3 January, Hopping Township, District 78, page 1B, Hse/Fam #16 Jones, Claud J Head Owns Farm M W 35 OK TX TX Farmer [b abt 1885] Jones, Minnie Wife F W 38 OK OK OK [b abt 1882] Jones, George Son M W 8 Single OK OK OK [b abt 1911] Thompson, Charley Step-Son M W 23 Single OK TX OK [b abt 1897] Farmer 1930 Federal Census, McClain County, Oklahoma, 15 April, Moncrief Township, District 8, page 8B, Hse #121, Fam #126 Jones, James L Head Rents M W 51 First Married at 31 yrs old TX TX TX Farmer [b abt 1879] Jones, Minnie L Wife F W 55 First Married at 19 yrs old OK TX OK [b abt 1875] Thompson, Charles W Stepson M W 34 Widowed OK TX OK Laborer [b abt 1896] Jones, George D Son M W 19 Single OK TX OK [b abt 1911] California, Death Index, 1905-1939 George D Jones Age at Death 26, Birth Year abt 1911 Death 18 Oct 1937 Kern, California George and his mother Minnie Lee Jones (née Green) share a footstone marker for a grave in North Kern Cemetery, McFarland, California.
