"Seven members of the Jones family and German immigrant Heinrich Monken are
interred here. After participating in the Texas Revolution in 1836, Augustus
Harris Jones migrated his family from Georgia to establish plantations and
peach orchards at this site. Although Augustus was buried here amongst his
loved ones upon his death in 1877, his third wife had his remains moved to the
IOOF Cemetery in Gonzales at a later date. Buried here is Augustus’ mother
Sophia Harris 1793-1852, his first wife Ann Roseanna Randle 1824-1851, their
daughters Laura 1843-1844 and Emily 1845-1845, their sons Augustus Harris, Jr
1850-1852 and Isham Green 1824-1867, Augustus’ second wife Julia Hatchett

Notes for James Claud Lewis JONES

Claud Jones is reported in the 1910 census as a Hired Man on the farm of widow
Minnie Lee Green Thompson. Family sources report that Claud and Minnie
married in 1911. In the 1920 census Claud is Head of the household, and
Minnie his wife. His name is given here as Claud J, and in 1930 it is James
L. It would appear his name was Claud James Jones. Perhaps the L stood for a
third given name. Cindy Pannel, another Green researcher reporets his other
name as Lewis.

lived in McClain County, Oklahoma, in Paris.Texas, the county seat of Lamar
County, close to the River.

could make out the name jones and maybe what looked like a "C". The date has
to be before 1935-36 as Minnie moved west to Calif around that time. This has
to be Claud Jones' marker."

Jim's age in the 1940 census is younger than we would expect. It should be

Notes for Levi Everett JONES

Levi served as a Staff Sergeant in the US Army in WWII.

From the Social Security Death Index we learn that his SSN was issued in
Texas. Up to the point of finding this record, I had no birth state for Levi.
I found that in the 1920 census Levi was with his parents in Prairie Township,
where we find him and Edrie. Thus I expect that they moved to Texas after
they were married and returned later to Arkansas County. The SSDI shows his
address at time of death was DeWitt, the southern county seat of Arkansas
County, about 13 miles from Ethel, where they grew up and where they are both
buried.

Notice that the mother of Thomas and Levi is shown as born in Arkansas, rather
than Mississippi. This is likely because the enumerator put the birthplace of
their stepmother, not their birth mother, who in 1920 was reported as born in
Mississippi. The two younger children are the children of Myrtle. From the
age of Clara, it appears that W T and Myrtle married about 1922.
