I found the Jones family in 1910 in Prairie Township of Arkansas County, Arkansas. Mattie is 8 years old at that time, and was born in Arkansas. A family source Jimmy Jones, reports no child named Mattie for either the first wife of Thomas, Mary Frances Criswell, or Cornie. The 1920 census confirms Mattie's birth in about 1902, the date of birth reported by Jerry Griffitt for her. Jerry reports her as a child of Cornie (Cornnie) Cochran Jones. It appears from the marriage dates here, however, that her mother was Mary Frances Criswell Jones. This was resolved in this genealogy by associating Mattie H with the child Helen reported by Jimmy Jones, giving us Mattie Helen. Some genealogies now identify her as Mattie Helen. We concluded that her full name was Martha Helen. Indeed one family photo (posted courtesy of Jerry Robnette) identifies her as Martha (Mattie Helen) Jonea.
