Notes for Anonymous LEDBETTER

U.S., Civil War Soldier Records and Profiles, 1861-1865
Anonomous Ledbetter
Birth Date abt 1830
Residence Cleveland County, North Carolina, North Carolina
Age at Enlistment 32
Enlistment 17 Mar 1862 Cleveland County, North Carolina
Survived the War? No
Enlisted as Private in Company H, North Carolina 28th Infantry Regiment on 17
Mar 1862, Mustered out on 24 Jan 1863 at Lynchburg, VA [date of death as POW?]
North Carolina Troops 1861-65, A Roster (Index-Only record from Ancestry.com)

A story poste by Samuel Donlan on his genealogy explains that Non died in a
Confederate HOspital in Lynchburg. He had earlier been ill and was treated in
"the Confederate Hospital at Huguenot Springs, Virginia in August of 1862. He
may have had other bouts of illness earlier that summer, as he had already
been admitted to the Chimborazo Hospital in Richmond for a severe case of
diarrhea earlier that June."

Samuel says, "He was returned to duty on June 11th, but was once again
admitted to Chimborazo on August 10, 1862 with a case of Rheumatism.
Anonamous Ledbetter died in a Confederate Hospital."
-- Samuel K Dolan, Dolan Family Tree, Ancestry.com, acessed 26 August 2015

His memorial on Find a Grave report his death of death as 3 days after the
"muster out" date reported in his Civil War military record. (No photo of the
grave is provided.) It does not seem to make sense that he was "mustered
out," then happened to died 3 days later in the same place.

and other info I have found."
-- David Bridges, email to Orville Boyd Jenkins, 2 March 2017

McSwain, William (*1826 - )
father: McSwain, Thomas (1796 - 1872)

----------child: McSwain, Frankie (*1861 - )
----------child: McSwain, Isabell (*1861 - )
----------child: McSwain, Josina (*1861 - )

Note the unlikely approximate dates of birth, two childern born in 1860 and
four in 1861! This source does not tell us which children were born to which
wives. But from the death date of Frankie, they would all be hers. None of
these six can be the children of Frankie, however, since in 1860, she would
have been about 70 years old! But this is old even for Thomas to father
children.

I note additionally that the Hamrick information combines two children
reported in the 1860 census, called William H and Anonymous. This odd name is
a given name for several individuals in Cleveland County in the 1800s.
Hamrick combines these two children in William Anonymus.

The child called Vianna by Hamrick matches the child reported in the census as
Vina C. This name is probably short for Levina, or Lavinia. Many women with
variations of this name were called Vina, Viney or other variations of this
nickname.

Frankie would be Frances (spelled Francis in the census). Henry might be an
additional child, but could also be the H of William H in the census, since
Hamrick has combined the name William with Anonymous (Anonymus). The Hamrick
listing adds one child not in the 1860 census, Josina. This name is reported
also by David Bridges above, in an email to this genealogist in March 2017.
He also refers to Josina as the youngest child. Bridges also gives us
WIlliam's full name as William Henry.
