James Glenn "Jack" Quaid
Birth Dec. 5, 1919 Como, Hopkins County, Texas
Death Aug. 4, 2008 Wardville, Atoka County, Oklahoma

He was the son of Edgar Garland and Cenis May "Mabel" (Forkner) Quaid. He
attended schools at Coalgate East Side, Coal Hill, Cottonwood, and Ashland
where in graduated in 1939. He married Christine Bailey on June 23, 1945, at
First Baptist Church in Atoka. He was a member of Kiowa Baptist Church.

His father preceded him in death when he was 13 months old, and he and his
mother moved to Oklahoma. She later married Tom McGraw. In the early 40s he
supervised a group of women called the EGG BEATERS at the Denison Poultry and
egg plant. He grew up in the Coalgate, Cottonwood and Ashland areas. In

a carpenter supervisor in 1982, after approximately 14 years of service. In
addition to being a carpenter, he always had a love of ranching and raising
cattle.

He loved being around people, playing dominoes (moon), going to dances, and
always had a story to tell. He was preceded in death by this parents, Edgar
Garland and Cenis May" Mabel" (Forkner) Quaid; brothers, Odis Quaid, and James
McGraw, and son, James Glenn Quaid Jr.

Josie Lena's grandmother Emily Meece applied for recognition by the Dawes

Choctaw Tribe

Emily's application was denied. In 1896, and again in 1901, Lena's father
Thomas, Emily's son, applied for citizenship in the Choctaw Nation, along with
several of his children. This application was also rejected. The primary
reason was probably that no blood quantum for either Emily or her children or
Thomas' children was known.

Minnie Ann's grandmother Emily Meece applied for recognition by the Dawes
Commission as a Choctaw Indian.

Dawes Commission Index, 1896
Case #67
Emily Quaid
Choctaw Tribe

The family was registered on an original Dawes Choctaw Card, but their
application was rejected in 1896, and this was confirmed at several points in
the process of developing the final rolls for the Nations. The rejection was
likely based primarily on the fact that Emily's and the chidlren's
registration states that the Chcotaw Blood Quantum percentage was unknown.

On the Dawes Choctaw card for Thomas and his children, the name of the second
child is unreadable, with a middle initial N, age 15 in 1901. This birth
order matches the Minnie Ann. The age is a couple of years off from the birth
date reported on her grave, 14 Aug 1884. Minnie was the only girl between
Thomas D D and Lee. Lee was registered separately on his own card.
