There are two memorials on Find a Grave for burials in two different
cemeteries that match James Henry. The first, the name James Henry Loivin, is
in Weleetka where he died, according to a family member and researcher,
originally had no birth or death dates or place. When accessed again on 18
August 2015, the full dates and places had been added, as in family sources
and records..

Another in Oklahoma City, is in the name J H Lovin and has the same dates of
birth and death as reported by the family genealogist gave in her comment,
which also included the places of birth and death. Perhaps a memorial stone
was piut up in both cemeteries. I am not sure where the actual burial took
place. I have known of one or two other instances of such a thing.

The grave marker states that James was killed in Cherokee County, but the Find
a Grave memorial reports his place of death as Burke County, North Carolina.
The memorial may have meant James was the first Union man from Cherokee County
who was killed in the war, rather than that he was the first one killed in
Cherokee County, as the wording indicates. I have not found the army records.
For now I am following the death place reported by Find a Grave.

This marker does not mention the son James Wesley Lovin, whose family
information led to James and Salina.

Notes for James Wesley LOVIN

Re: Callie Augustine Blaney & J.W. Lovin
My line starts with James Tillman Lovin 1819-1863. One of his sons was James
Wesley Lovin (JW). They were in N.C.

James was married 2x. First to my great grandmother Callie Augustine West
(Blaney name might be used also). His 2nd marriage was to Dora Shipp Reed. My
grandmother was Carrie Belle Lovin and my father Eugene Terry.

Return to James Wesley LOVIN

Notes for John N LOVIN

I found the middle initial F in some geneaolgies, like the following. The dtae
of death reported here is commonly reported in the various genealogies that
have this family. Some, however, have identified John with a Confederate
soldier, when according to family sources, he served in the Union Army. So
the following date of death, which I have used, may actually be for another
John Lovin. This may be the source of the different middle initial.

John F LOVIN
Birth abt 1847 in Burke, North Carolina
Death 22 Feb 1865 in Nashville, Davidson, Tennessee
Parents:
James Tillman LOVIN 1819 - 1863
Salina WILSON 1826 - 1876
-- Robertson,
http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/1134775/person/-750575416?ssrc=&ftm=1

In the 1850 census, when John was 3 years old, his middle initial is reported
as N.

One famiy researcher reports John was killed in service of the Union Army, as
did his father, who was the first Union soldier killed in Cherokee County,
North Carolina. Some other genealogies report he served in the Confederate
Army. There was a John Reddick Lovin that did serve in the confederacy. Some
listings for him have the name only as John Lovin and appears to be confused
with this John F Lovin.

There were many individuals form several states named John Lovin. There was
one John F Lovin who served as a Lieutenant in the Confederate Army, in Co B,
3rd Confederate Infantry, This was originally an Arkansas Regiment, and was
later called Marmaduke's Regiment.

The following record transcription appears to be for the correct John Lovin.

Notes for Joseph L LOVIN

Joseph L Lovin was born in Holmes County, Mississippi, then moved with his
family at a later time to Texas, where various members of the family settled
in places all over northern Texas, and some moved into Indian and Oklahoma
Territories.

In 1920, they are in the same place, but their street address has changed from
1204 Franklin St to 1202. It is not clear from the numbers and names in
neighboring houses whether they moved to a house next door or the addresses
were changed. Note that the description of Joe's occupation has changed from
Carpenter for the Railroad to Car Builder. His son Hilliard, reported here as
T H, has joined him in this profession.

We note some interesting changes in the birth states for Joe's parents and for
Annie. Joe is still reported as born in Mississippi, but now his mother's
birthplace is changed to Georgia. Annie is now reported as born in Georgia
rather than Alabama, and this is consistently reflected also in the birthplace
of the children's mother.

Annie has now married Frederick (Fred) Hatton, and she and her husband are
living with them in the same house. In the next house reported, in 1407
Franklin Street, is Fred Hatton's widowed mother Ida, and her 12-year-old
daughter Martha.

In 1930, they are still at the same address, but the ward of the city has now
changed from Ward 1 to Ward 4. Annie and her son Fredrick Hatton Jr is still
living with her parents, but she and Fred have divorced. Fred's mother is no
longer next door.

Joe has retired from his railroad job. Annie is a grocery store manager. His
parents are now both reported as born in Mississippi. Annie is once again
reported as born in Alabama.
