The Green-Gregory family in Oklahoma knew this name as Mattie Loving. Her father's family was enumerated in 1880 as Loving. On Benjamin Franklin's certificate of marriage to Lucinda Brewer, the name is spelled Lovings. It appears usually as Lovin in other public documents and family records in several genealogies. We find the name of some of the Lovins in Texas spelled as Loving, such as the gravestone of Annie Louise Loving Green, b 1897 d 1982 in Hale County, Texas. It appears that Mattie's actual name was Mattie, rather than Martha. Her Social Security number was issued to Mattie A Green. She first appears with her family in Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma. in the 1900 census. 1900 Federal Census, Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma, 25 June, Burnett Township, District 194, page 15B, Hse/Fam #278 Lovin, Benjamin F Head W M May 1850 50 Married 25 yrs MS MS MS Lovin, Lucinda P Wife W F June 1852 47 Married 25 yrs AR MS MS Lovin, Mattie A Dau W F Nov 1884 15 Ind Terr MS MS She married James Taylor Green in Fort Gibson, Muskogee County, Cherokee Nation, Indian Territory, on 6 Feb 1902. 1910 Federal Census, Stephens County, Oklahoma, 29 April, Marlow Ward 3, District 239, page 14B, Hse #265, Fam #272 Green, Taylor J Head M W 31 Married 8 yrs TX Unknown Unknown Real Estate Owns Home Green, Mattie Wife F W 26 Married 8 yrs OK MS TN Green, Harry Son M W 5 OK TX OK Green, Pearl Daughter F W 3 OK TX OK In 1918, Taylor and Mattie were living in Duncan, when he registered for the US Military draft on 12 September 1918. Before finding this Draft registration, I had only an approximate year from the census, 1879, and the state, Texas. It is likely he was born in Hill County, Texas, but I have not yet found documentary evidence of this.
