Notes for Sarah Ann Isabella LOWE

Sarah Ann was first reported in teh 1860 census, with her paretns and siblings
in Sevier County, Arknsas. This county borders Oklahoma in the southwest part
of Arkansas, north or Texarkansas. DeQueen is the county seat.

Sarah's father died after the 1860 census, and in 1870 she and her mother were
reported living in Arkansas County, in the southwest of the state, in the
household of a family named Allman.

Solemized by J A Moore, Minister of the Gospel
Age 19, Birth Year (Estimated) 1857
Spouse's Name Sarah Lowe
Spouse's Age 20, Spouse's Birth Year (Estimated) 1856
Filed 12 January 1877

On the shared gravestone for William, Sarah and their son Albert, there is a
series date, saying "1895 to 1904."

Sarah appears in the 1900 census as a widow with her children, including
Albert, who is 20 years old. The date of 1895, then, must be the death of
William. The date of the birth of their last child, William W, was about May
1896. This must mean that William died late in 1895, during Sarah's pregnancy
with William W.

It is not clear from the notation on the their joint grave marker whether the
last date 1904 is meant to apply to both Sarah and Albert. I have not been
able to find Sarah in any records after the 1900 census. I found the marriage
record for Albert to Lida Cochran in 1904. By 1910, Lida has remarried. It
appears that Albert died soon after their marriage. Thus I have taken the
last date of 1904 as both Sarah's and Albert's death date of 1904. They may
have died in an epidemic.

In 1900 widow Sarah is running the farm.

Note that the father of the children is now said to have been born in
Tennessee, not North Carolina. But int he 1870 census of the McSwain family
in Tennessee, he was reported born in North Carolina.

Sarah's two youngest children, Bertha and William W, were taken in by John and
Mary Henderson. In the 1910 census, they are enumerated in the Henderson
household with the relationship of Ward.

Notes for James LOWERY

Fayette County, Pennsylvania Vital Records, 1750-1890
Lowry, James Jr.
Birth 1738 Ballynagorry, Ireland
Father's Name James Lowry, Sr

Several genealogies report the birth year as 1733 instead of 1738. They also
report him as James Lowry or James Lowery, Jr from Ballynagorry, Ireland. But
they usually also report his father as Edmond Lowery. If he is James Jr, his
father is not Edmond Lowery/Lowry.

James Lowery, Birth 1733 in Ballynagorry, Ireland, Death 1824 in Jasper,
Pickens, Georgia
Parents Edmond Lowery b 1700, Eleanor
Spouse Polly Ann Wilke b 1733

Priscilla Lowery 1777 - 1850
-- Johnson Family,
http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/997388/person/-1763001452?ssrc=&ftm=1

These details may refer to two different James Lowrys, whose information has
been merged by the commonly uncareful genealogies we find. I have shown James
Lowery as born in 1738, following the Fayette County, Pennsylvania record that
so many attach to his profile, with his father also named James Lowry/Lowery,
to match his designation as Junior. Further information may enable me to
confirm the parental connection or separate two people named James Lowery.

The likelihood that there are two different family lines combined here seems
supported by the presence of a tax record for a James Lowery Sr near James
Lowery Jr in Franklin County, Georgie in 1807. This indicates James Sr and
James Jr as father and son in Franklin County.

The James whose father was Edmond may be in another county of Georgia (he died
in Jasper County), and the record of birth in Fayette County, Pennsylvania,
may not be for the James Lowry who married Polly Ann Wilkie.

Notes for Meshack LOWERY

Some genealogies report that Meshack Lowery was born in Northern Ireland. But
siblings born before him and after him were born in the Carolinas. It is
conceivable his mother was back in Ireland at the time of his birth. But it
seems likely that this report confuses two different individuals named Meshack
Lowery.

Some genealogies also report that his mother Polly Wilkie Lowery died in
Ireland. If so, she was back in the home country for some reason at the time
of her death. I have seen no evidence of either Meshack's birth or Polly's
death in Ireland. Only entries in undocumented genealogies that are also
questionable on other grounds.

Note: Appraisal of the Estate of Meshach Lowery, 10 Feb 1849, by William
Malone, Jared Kelly, & Hines Fish, provided by Wiley Phillips, Executor,
total: $1253.47.

Meshach Lowery is buried in the Wilson Family Cemetery. Directions: Starting
at the courthouse in Monticello, Georgia, go north on Georgia Highway 11.
About 1/2 mile, Highway 229 splits off. Take 229 going north, for about 3.5
miles. You will pass over 3 creeks on the way. Pull off road to the right.
There is a small place to pull off and it is opposite a steel gate on the
other side of the highway. Look up a slight rise to the right, go 55 paces.
Grave markers are in a wooded area.

Tombstone is about 18 inches high, and reads "ELDER M. LOWRY, Born Sep 9,
1774, Died Dec 29, 1848".

Another researcher had copied it "1845" in error.
----------------------------------------

There is a record of daughter Susan Lowery Green, her husband and her sister
Cynthia selling Susan's part of the land from her father.
