Notes for James MCAFEE

The memorial for James McAfee on Find a Grave has his full name as James WIllis
McAfee. The memorial comments that there is now no gravestone, and provides
no source for his full name. Several other genealogies also have this full
name for James.

A McAfee genealogist states that their McAfee family records show no middle
name for James.

"The generational McAfee private family papers of my family do NOT show a
middle name of "Willis" for my direct generational grandfather, Honorable
James McAfee Jr. buried in Bostic NC. These graves are no longer marked with
the gravestones, but I know exactly where they are located, and have been
there through time."
-- Carolyn McAfee-McGuire, email to Orville Boyd Jenkins etal, 13 February
2016

Carolyn comments further on the FAG memorial page:
"Honorable James McAfee, Jr, buried in the tiny hamlet of Bostic, NC located
on the NC border line to SC. May it be known that, to date, no early NC
courthouse record for this James McAfee Jr. reflects the middle name name
"Willis." ... All of the grave markers for the McAfees and the Greens have
disappeared from this gravesite in the old Bostic Brick Yard. Nothing remains
of the cemetery location but the little high rise where all were buried."

Notes for Kathryn Alberta MCBRIDE

I found information on Katheryn/Kathryn with her second husband George Hicks
before finding her previous background and first marriage.

1940 Federal Census, Bexar County, Texas, 2 April, San Antonio, District
259-216, page 1A, Hse #12, Owned $1000

Hicks, Robert Son M W 8 Single Grade 1 b Texas, Same place in 1935
Hicks, F W Son M W 3 Single Grade 0 b Texas

With clues from the 1940 census, I was able to find her 1930 census records
with her first husband Robert Howard Fulmer in Shreveport, Louisiana. Robert
and Katheryn are living in the home of her parents.

1930 Federal Census, Caddo Parish, Louisiana, 10 April, Shreveport, District
36, page 10B, 1924 Dove St, Hse #219, Fam #246
McBride, William Head Rents M W 66 Married at 26 IL TN IL House Painter

Fulmer, Kathryn E GrandDau F W 1yr8mos LA TX Iowa
Wolfe, Vesta A GrandDau F W 14 LA US Ill
Wolfe, Beulah L GrandDau F W 14 LA US Ill

The second child Robert Fulmer Jr was born in Texas in 1932, so they must have
moved to San Antonio not long after the 1930 census in Shreveport. The facts
initially look like Robert died and Katheryn married George, who adopted her
children. But it appears from Social Security records that Katheryn's first
husband Robert Fulmer did not die before she married George Hicks, but lived
until 1970.

Social Security Death Index
Robert Fulmer
Born 24 Sep 1906
Died Sep 1970
Last Residence 78206 San Antonio, Bexar, Texas 78206
SSN 455-03-3490 issued Texas (Before 1951)

In the 1930 census, it appears that the enumerator understood Katheryn's (and
her daughter's) middle name to be Elberta, thus the initial E. In the 1940
census the enumerator made a point to write out the full middle name (above
the first name at an angle) to read clearly as Alberta. This is the name
found in a few famiy genealogies also that have detail and documentation.

In the 1920 census, she is named simply as Alberta.

1920 Federal Census, Caddo Parish, Louisiana, 8 January, Shreveport Precinct
9, District 62, page 15B, 1924 Dove St, Hse #305, Family #350
McBride, William O Head Rents M W 54 IL TN IL House Painter
McBride, Kate Wife F W 52 IL Switzerland Germany
McBride, Alberta Dau F W 10 Iowa IL IL

Katheryn and Robert must have been divorced not long after moving to San
Antonio from Shreveport where their first child was born. The divorce would
have been by about 1835, since the birth of her first child with George would
indicate a birth date in 1937.

The date of their divorce is estimated in 1935, based on birth of Robert and
Katheryn's last child in Texas 1932, the 1940 report of their presence in San
Antonio in 1935 and birth of the first child from Katheryn's second marriage
about 1937. The marriage to George Hicks probably occurred about 1936.

Notes for James Elmer MCCALL

Oklahoma County Marriage Records 1889-1951 Book 86, Pg 172

Marriage 28 Dec 1934

Lahoma and James were reported in the 1935 Oklahoma City City Directory.

The following WWII draft registration is for a James Elmer McCall Bastrop,

of Gladys Lahoma Jenkins.

World War II Draft Registration

Birth 8 Jan 1910 Edward, Hines [Hinds] County, Mississippi

Employer United Carbon Co, Monroe, Ouachita Parish, Louisiana
(back)
Gray Eyes, Red Hair, Light Complexion
Registered 16 October 1940 Bastrop, Morehouse Parish, Louisiana

Theough they are so simlar, ir now appears that these two records are for
different persons. The 1935 Oklahoma City directory has James Elmer McCall in
Oklahoma City. We do know that Elmer and Lahoma were not married very long,
and no divorce recrod has been found. A James Elmer McCall is enumerated in
the 1940 census in Bastrop, Morehouse Parish, Louisiana (not far from Monroe).
He was 20 years old, so is a match for Lahoma, born in 1914.

His wife in that census was named Crystal and they had two children. The
oldest was 5-year old Sidney Day McCall, at age 5. If Sindney is age 5, then
Elmer and Crystal were married before 1835, when James Elmer McCall was
reported as the husband of G Lahoma (Jenkins) in Oklahoma City. Further the
1940 census reports that Elmer was living in Morehouse Parish, Lousiana, in
1935.

James Elmer McCall Jr's father is living next door to him in 1940, enumerated
as James Elmer McCall Sr.
