Notes for Elizabeth Jane MCDOLE

Through searches on their children's names, I found the children's birth
records, giving me locations for Elizabeth and her husband Bailey Jackson
Lovin Jr. In 1940, Elizabeth was with her parents in Bakersfield, California.
They had moved there from Arkansas, where she was enumerated in the 1930
census. They must have married when he was in California with his parents
after his service in WWII.

After finding some information on their three children reported in Jack's
obituary, I found there was an earlier child who had lived only one day. The
record of this birth was important in clarifying their residences and time of
marriage.

This unnamed first child was born in Contra Costa County, California, in the
west center of California. Their marriage record had not turned up anywhere,
but with this birth in 1946, we can say they married very soon after Jack was
released from military service at the end of WWII. Birth occurred in October
1946, so they married in late 1945 or early 1946.

California, Death Index, 1940-1997
Lovin
Gender Male
Birth 16 Oct 1946 Contra Costa County, California
Death 17 Oct 1946 Contra Costa County
Mother's Maiden Name McDole
Father's Surname Lovin

Their first child that lived was born in 1950 in San Francisco.

California Birth Index, 1905-1995
Bailey Jackson Lovin
Birth 5 Oct 1950 San Francisco County
Mother's Maiden Name McDole

For a short time between the birth of Bailey J III and their second child
Corwyn in 1953, they moved to Texas. Elizabeth and Bailey J III were living
in San Antonio when Corwyn was born in 1953.

Texas Birth Index, 1903-1997
Corwyn Eugene Lovin
Birth 23 Apr 1953 Bexar County
Father's Name Bailey Jackson Lovin Jr
Mother's name Elizabeth Jane McDole

I have found no other record of their time in Texas.

The next record I find that seems to be them is in 1956, where they appear to
be listed in entries for this family in Ventura County, California. There are
entries matching Bailey J (Jack) Sr, Elizabeth's husband Jack and Jack's
brother Joseph Lee. Both Bailey J (apparently B J Sr) and Jack (B J Jr) are
car salesmen. Brother Joe and his wife Betty are part owners of a car
dealership. The wife of both Bailey J and Jack here is reported as Edith.

U.S. City Directories, 1821-1989
Ventura, California, County Directory, 1956, p 602
Lovin Bailey J (Edith) slsmn Carl Beasley Oldsmobile h 317 Santa Paula (SP)
Lovin Jack (Edith [Elizabeth?]) slsmn Carl Beasley Used Cars h 437 Foothill
Drive (Fill[more])
Lovin Jos L (Betty J; Lovin and Morrill New and Used Cars h 62 Princeton (El
Rio) (Ox)

There is a gap in records for them until the birth of their third child
Elizabeth S (Libby). They were in Los Angeles when she was born. In 1964
they were in Los Angeles when their third child, a daughter, was born.

California Birth Index, 1905-1995
Elizabeth S Lovin
Birth 13 May 1964 Los Angeles County
Mother's Maiden Name McDole

There are later entries that are unclear. They report on B J and Edith with
Joe, but some of these entries are after Bailey Jack Sr died in 1972, and
Bailey Jack Jr also died in 1974. I don't find listings with B J with a wife
named Elizabeth. And I have not found a marriage record for any wife named
Edith for their son Bailey J III. So the entries for the late 60s are
ambiguous and I cannot account for the entries for 1977 and 1980.

In 1969, Jack and Edith are listed in Oxnard.

U.S. City Directories, 1821-1989
Oxnard, California, County Directory, 1969, p 274

Oxnard, California, City Directory, 1970, p 230

Bailey Jackson Lovin Sr died in 1972. His son Bailey Jackson Lovin Jr died in
1974. Yet there are records reporting a Jack and Edith to match B J Sr and
his wife Edith Fitzhugh, in places where they had lived, in 1977 and 1980.

Elizabeth is reported as the wife of Bailey J Lovin at the time of his death.
In some previous records, his wife's name is Edith.

The following marriage record could match Elizabeth McDole Lovin. It reports
that one Betty J Lovin married Armand (Armando in some other records) Eliggi
in Placer County, central California, not far from Sacramento. This appears
to be the right Betty Jane Lovin, because later records report them in Ukiah,m
Mendocino, where her son Bailey J III is also reported. Armando died in
Ukiah.

Treasure “Trey” McElhanon Welch, 94, passed away Friday, Aug. 12, 2016 in
Azle.

Service: 3 p.m. Friday at Wiley Funeral Home in Glen Rose.
Interment: Squaw Creek Cemetery.

Trey was born Jan. 19, 1922 in Arkadelphia, Ark. to Ode and Lou McElhanon.
She married Berley J. Welch on Dec. 30, 1939 in Marlow, Okla. She had lived
with her husband in Glen Rose since 1991. Trey served faithfully all the
churches her husband served in Texas, Georgia, Alabama and Missouri.

In Oct. 2011, Trey was bestowed, fittingly so, from the Governor of Texas,
Rick Perry, an honorary “Yellow Rose of Texas Award.” It is the highest
civil award that can be given to a woman in our state. Her state
representative presented her with the award in a special ceremony on the
grounds where she and her husband started the first youth camp for the
Primitive Baptist Church in Texas. A Texas Landmark now permanently marks the
property in Glen Rose, as such. As a family, we are very proud of Treasure.
She always tried to make her life a Treasure to all those she touched.

Survivors: Daughters, Betty Fern Welch of San Antonio and Linda Trey Bowers
and husband, Joe of Fort Worth; sons, Berl Roy Welch of Fort Worth and Jerl
Ross Welch and wife, Anne of Rockwall; eight grandchildren; 12

"To share a thankful note: A photo of the gravestone of Mary McEntire Green
McAfee was rescued from a NC flooding house basement. A photo was sent to me
in a gesture of very great kindness as the individual had read my pleas for
ever so long. The photo shows the old gravestone of Mary laying atop a wooden
bar-be-que table. It is very thin and delicately designed. I so hope that we
may find the other family grave stones missing from the Bostic Brick Yard. ...
I tend to think that the old brick yard MAY have been the old McAfee
plantation. Such seems logical to one's thought."
