This matches with the August date for the 1850 census and the birth year of 1850 given by the Hamrick Data Pages. Lucinda's age here, though, is 12 years older than 10 years ago. There is an error somewhere. Because of the likely birth of Meldonia in 1850, the older age reported in 1860 seems more likely. This would make Lucinda's age at their marriage in about 1849-50 more like 16 than 14. 1880 Federal Census, Cleveland County, North Carolina, 10 June, Sandy Run, Township 7, District 71, page 15 (576), Hse #145, Fam #146 McKinney, Z M W M 51 Farmer NC NC NC McKinney, L W F 46 Wife Keeping House NC NC NC McSwain, Mary W M 16 House Servant NC NC NC Lucinda McSwain McKinney Birth Nov 28, 1833 Death Apr 13, 1900 Spouse Zachariah M. In 1920, her name is spelled Maggy, rather than Maggie, as we have it in previous censuses. Maggy is a widow, head of her household as a farmer. We can estimate the year of death of her husband Bedford by the ages of their two youngest children. Walton is 8 and Edward is 5. Edward would have been born in roughly 1915, so Bedford could have died during that pregnancy or at some time between 1905 and February 1920, when the census was held. 1920 Federal Census, Arkansas County, Arkansas, 4 February, Prairie Township, District 13, Ethel & Chute Rd, p 7A, Hse #122, Fam #126 Rowland, Maggy E Head Widow F W 45 AR NC NC Farmer [born abt 1875] Rowland, Roberta Daughter F W 14 AR KY AR Farm Laborer Rowland, Walton Son M W 8 AR KY AR Rowland, Edward Son M W 5 AR KY AR A Bedford Rowland was born in 1918, according to a marriage record in Arkansas County. But I don't know who his parents would be otherwise. The young Bedford married Bernice McSwian in 1938 in Arkansas County. The residence for both is reported as Ethel. The Social Security Death Index reports that at the time of her death her age was 65, with an estimated birth year of 1878. The Index does not report an exact date of birth. The 1900 census reports the month and year of birth. For Maggie this was Aug 1876. This is consistent with the ages reported in the censuses, and is the most exact date, so I have reported August 1866 as her birth date. McSwain b: ABT Dec 1862 in North Carolina, Death: Unknown Note: It's possible that George A. [?] lived in Laurel, Jones Co., Mississippi, in 1910. If so, he was married to Charity R., born about 1850, in SC. -- David Holden, http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=dwh1951&id=I331 Holden does not have a death date for Marcus, but I estimated the date of death from another fact Holden reports. Marcus' wife was Francis Ledbetter, born 27 March 1839. Holden also reports that this same Francis Ledbetter was the wife of William Kine. Francis married Marcus on 7 April 1873, and William about 1876. No death date is reported for Marcus, but he must have died, or she would not have married his brother. Thus, using round figure years, I estimated Marcus died in about 1875.
