"Quaid Family"
Article on T W Quaid family, Rusk County, Texas

"Tax records for 1846 show that T W (Thomas Walter) Quaid was a resident of
New Salem in Rusk County. He had an original land grant of 480 acres. T W
and his wife Emily Moore came from Brownsville, Mississippi, Lafayette County.
Upon arriving in Texas, they had four children with them: Benjamin Walter,
Elihu (Eli Hugh), William Riley and Simpson. Emily's parents came with them.
Her father was Silas. Her mother's name has not been completely
authenticated.

"The Quaids stayed in Rusk County until 1880. T W belonged to the same
Masonic Lodge as Sam Houston. Three Quaids and six Moores enlisted in the
Confederate Army. LDS records show that T W died of suicide in 1860. Details
of his death are not known at this time. After his death, Emily and the
children moved to Cooke County. Elihu stayed in New Salem."

"[The author, Glen Quaid's] line derives from Elihu. He married Martha J
Barron on July 19, 1866. After Martha died, he married Nancy Fletcher on July
8,1874. Nancy was born in Franklin Co, Illinois, in 1851. She died Dec 11,
1927. Elihu died October 9, 1907, in Johnson [Johnston] County, Oklahoma.

"The line descends from Elihu, to John Savanna, Edgar Garland, Jack Quaid and
myself. ...

"The movie actors, Randy and Dennis Quaid, are descended from Elihu's brother,
Benjamin Walter. The line runs: Benjamin Walter, John Thomas, William Jesse,
and their father William Rudy."

The genealogy reports her place of death as Johnson County, Indian Territory,
Oklahoma. While correct at the core, most of the facts are wrong. The name
of the county is Johnston. And in 1910 there was no Indian Territory. Indian
Territory was merged with Oklahoma Territory and parts of Texas and unassigned
Indian lands to become the state of Oklahoma in 1907. Johnston County was
formed in 1907 out of part of Chickasaw Nation land.

Notes for Francis Ann MOORE

The basic personal and family information for Francis Ann Moore was included in
her funeral home information, posted on the website of the Luginbuel Funeral
Home, Prairie Grove, Arkansas.

Francis and her husband James Bailey Forsyth moved to Texas. There is some
indication they were there before the 1860 census, yet there is a Civil War
record indicating James, though a Tennessean, served the Union in the war.
How easy it would have been to join the Union army from Texas is questionable.
But they were definitely in Titus County, Texas, by the 1870 census, then into
neighboring Bowie County, in the northeastern corner of Texas, for the 1880
census.

The reported birth states for parents of the girls do not correpsond to the

I suspect the enumerator got confused. I think both are supposed to be
Arkansas. In 1920, the reported states change for Ora/Ola, now a widow in her
mother's household with her two children.

Notes for Judith MOORE

Sevral differtent sources have different birth and death dates for Judith.
There are differences in the rading of the death year on her gravesone, from
which varkous birth dates have been given, figuring back from her reported age
of 37 years based on the perception of the date of death. Clarification of
Judith's birth date is found in the Moore family Bible, made available
courtesy of Virginia Owens Long.

The left page is hard to read. The right page entries are transcribed below.

"John McSwain was born 28th Day of august 1794 / Judith McSwain was Born 10th
Day of august 1793 and was married the 16th Day of November 1813 / William
McSwain was born the 22 Day of July 1762 / Judith McSwain was Born 10th Day of
may 1758 / David McSwain was Born the 3 Day of March 1782"
-- Bible from the records of the Moore Family; in the possession of in the
possession of Virginia Owens Long of Brevard NC, daughter of Otto P Owens;
Otto is the first son of Dove and Onze Owens. Accessed 1 Feb 2016 on the
Owens-Burns genealogy, Ancestry.com

If we take this entry of Judith's birth date as confirmation of the conrrect
date, it brings in to question other dates. The gravestone reprots her as 37
years old at the time of death. 1793 plus 37 years would make her year of
death 1830. The gravestone is the same style and vintage as her husband
John's. If these were put up at or near the time of death, you would think
the death year was correct there.

Perhaps they erred on the age, having in mind a different year of birth. If
she died in 1824, age 37 would make birth year about 1787, not 1793 as
reported in the Bible. If the reading of her death year on the gravestone as
1821 is correct, her birth year was about 1784. The date in the Bible must be
wrong.

The name L M Morre was reproted on his death certificate as his father. His
wife was the informant. Raymond, howver, had many years before, reported on
his Social Security records that his father's name was Seaton Moore. It seems
likely he would have been correct, rather than his wife. His father died when
he was about 4 years old.

I wa able to find Taymond's paretns' marriage record, which confirmed his
father was Seaton Moore.
