These graves are down the hill near the creek among the trees. They are no longer open for public viewing. This farm was originally owned by the Mullinax Family but now is in the possession of others. I (Orville Boyd Jenkins) was in a group of Mullinax descendants who were able to make the final visit allowed by the family who now owns this farm, arranged by Gerald Lynn Mullinax for the Mullinax Family Reunion in October 2009. I am a descendant of John and Sarah Mullinax from two lines of their descendants both though Mullins and West lines on my mother's side in the Green family line. The name of this cemetery on Find a Grave is Mullinax Family Cemetery. My cousin Gerald Lynn Mullinax has prepared a memorial there for John G Mullinax and other Mullinax family members. I have left the spelling of the name of the Mullinix/Mullinax spelling as it was in the genealogy from which I imported them. This is an example of the variation of names that shows up everywhere in this line until recent decades in the same family. I find it interesting, if not suspicious, that four of these children have the middle initial of G. But John S, Jr, also named a son John Gaines. I suspect the middle name in some if not all these other cases is Gaines, Alsey Mary Mullinax's maiden name. Several Gaines and Mullinaxes married each other in at least two generations. Most sources lack any middle initial for John and his son. One Mullinax genealogy lists them as John S Mullinax, but does not cite a source. Sarah Mullinix mentioned in correspondence on this question that she has not found any original documents that show any middle initial for either of these.
There are differences in family genealogies for the Mullinax line. I am in touch with one family line from John Mullinax and Sarah Donnally that indicate that their son named John was the husband of Alsie Gaines. I find several other genealogies of the Mullinax family, also managed by Mullinax descendants, that have this other generation in between. I have not yet been able to reconcile all the children into one clear generation. I am trying to get clarification on their sources. The birth year of the first John (Jonathan) Mullinax is uncertain, with the common dates being either 1735 or 1737. This allows a short period before his dated marriage to Sarah Donnally to age 13 or 15, young even for that period. But those who have only one generation of descendants named John Mullinax have the son born in 1766. I have not yet found any independent documentation for a birth date of 1766 for a son of John and Sarah. Others have descendants in two generations, John (S) Sr and John (S) Jr, with birth dates of 1754 and 1774. This is what I show right now. I am still searching for further indications of the family line. There were many families named Mullinax, from apparently two primary lines of migration from the UK families. I have been able to determine the exact relationship between them. I have identified some confusion in some sources of John and Sarah's family with a John (or Jonathan) Mullinax born in 1733 in Ann Arundel County, Maryland. One source of the confusion appears to be that this John and his wife Susannah Greenberry also moved to the Carolinas. Mullinaxes lived in several counties of both North and South Carolina. John and Susannah moved from Maryland to North Carolina. John is reported to have died in 1800 at Aaron Hill, Randolph County, North Carolina. Further, some South Carolina Mullinaxes were in the Spartanburg area while others were in York County in South Carolina. One or more of the York County families also moved to the Spartanburg area, and there is some confusion in some uncareful genealogies about the families because the names John and Jonathan were so common in all the Mullinax lines.

The name is also spelled Jonothan, and the surname appears in many sources as Mullineaux. His father's name is sometimes spelled Mulleneaux. Names are similar generation to generation, so interpreting the sources is a bit uncertain. But some genealogies, such as the one I used from George Moss, have another generation in her, with another Jonathan Mullineaux as son of Thomas and father of this Jonathan. Dates are missing or uncertain in many sources, so there are some problems with ages and birth dates. Those sources giving a date of birth for Thomas, report the date as 1674. The common date of birth for the first Jonathan (Jonothan/Jonathon) Mullineaux is about 1685, and for the second Jonathan Mullinax 1705. This puts a bit of a squeeze on the age for fathering. This makes Thomas a very young father with only 11 years between his birth and that of the first Jonathan! So I was uncertain how to report the birth dates for Thomas. There are not enough details available yet to fully resolve this problem. Because of this uncertainty, I have removed the first Jonathan Mullinax from this sequence. Another possibility is that this Thomas Mulleneaux is incorrectly considered the father of Jonathan (born 1705). The genealogy showing dates for Thomas, also indicate that this Thomas Mulleneaux died in Delaware in 1728. While this is possible, it brings up a question since some sources (followed by many genealogies) say his son and some others named Mullineaux arrived in the colonies in Maryland, as indentured servants (the sources below says "convicts") in 1726. This story about the arrival of Jonathan in the colonies as an indentured servant seems to be wrong or refers to a different Jonathan. I am investigating further sources. For information, I am including below the information from George Moss that is questioned by some researchers. There seems to be an error in some genealogies (usually undocumented) in the positioning of a Jonathan Mullinax, wife of Susanna Greenberry and father of Greenberry Mullinix/Mullinax. There are several genealogies that confuse two lines of Mullinaxes with some making Greenberry the son of John, son of Jonathan, and others make his the son of Jonathan. I have reconstructed the line of that Jonathan and his son Greenberry, which I am reasonably satisfied with. I worked with clues from a Mullinix descendant in the Midwest who was researching the Indiana-Illinois-Missouri Mullinix line from Greenberry. The name of Jonathan (born 1705) also appears with variation, as seen in the following documentation from another genealogist. But his name is more commonly seen with the more completely Anglicized American spelling of Mullinax or Mullinix. ----------------------------------------- Notes Imported [reorganized for chronological order] to the Jenkins GED from http://awtc.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=georgemoss46&id=I1775 Arrived from Middlesex, England on the ship "Loyal Margaret" as a convict in 1726. Some sources write Martin's last name as Mullino, which would indicate that he -- or some of his family or community -- pronounced it in the French way normally spelled Mullineaux, rather than the English form Mullinax.
The first source I used has no date for Mary. This name is missing from the list in Allcensus.com genealogy for the Mullinax/Mullinix family. The latter has two children without names, born after Rachel, the lastborn on my list. It is possible Mary is one of these.
