Several genealogies report the names of Susannah Henderson's parents as John Henderson and Mary Henry. One reports he was born in 1800. The 1880 census reporting Susannah (Susan) and her family reports her father was born in Tennessee. One or two seem to have confused this John Henderson with a later John C Henderson who also married a Mary Henry, and who had a daughter named Susan, who was born in 1889. The gravestone says John was born in 1857 and Mary in 1854. Note also that John's middle initial is wrong according to family sources giving his name as John Melba Henderson. His son is also reported in family sources as John Melba Jr. Family sources also report that daughter Nina's birth year was 1884. It is probably from this report that the genealogies report her birth in Germany. Most genealogies do not report their sources. It is intriguing that Robert reported this. Elisa Strange-von Rice also reports to me that she heard from family sources that Amos' wife was German, but she could not figure how, sicne Henderson is not a German name. But the Henderson family did speak German. Note that the censuses all report her born in South Carolina. "Amos Bradford is the one who was married to the German.. altho.. I haven't figured out how she was German. Her name was Mary Ann Henderson and that certainly is not a German name. (neither is Bailey). Mary Ann was susposedly born in Berlin. In 1880 the census lists her as Susan, instead of the full name Susannah. Family sources indicate she was called Polly. I found exact birth and death information on Susannah Henderson from the Strange family. I was hesitant to change to this, however, because it reports her about 3 years older than two censuses that agree. But censuses are wildly wrong and varying in that era, and one census has her three years younger than the other two. I have decided to follow this family information.
