Notes for James P MULLINS

He was assigned to the 1st Corp. in Company E, 23rd Regiment of the Georgia
Volunteer Infantry of Confederate Soldiers from Pickens County. One Ancestry
World Tree researcher reports that, as for George Ross Mullins, it was said
that James also "...actually fought for the Union." They were sappers and
spies for the Union.

See the notes for James' brother Green D Mullins, for more on their role in
the Civil War.

Notes for John MULLINS

My initial informatoin on Johns was a couple of baree details in an
undocumented genealogy, which is no longer online. There is some difference
over his birth palce. Some suggest Granville County, North Carolina, while
others suggest Surrey COunty, Virginia

On compilaiton of sources has birthplace only as Virginia. The date of birth
there is 1740, which others report 1742.

Lafayette (Lafette) lists another sister named Sallie before Margaret,
according to Charlotte Claiborn, another Mullins researcher. She must have
died before 1870, since she does not apper in the 1870 census. Lafayette also
names his sister Mary as Mary C. Here she is Mary K, so the middle name must
have been Catherine.

Notes for Jonnie M MULLINS

Several genealogies that include this family reprot that Johnnie was born in
May 1886 and died in 1944 or before 1968. However, none of these offer any
documention or explain any sources, and appear to be copying each other.

It is not likely he was born in 1886, however, since his brother George, one
of two children reported in the household in 1900, is reported as born in
April 1886. Johnnie does not appear in the 1900 census with this family, So
if he was born between 1880 and 1900, he died or moved out of the home before
the 1900 census.

His name on his grave is spelled Linzey. This is the only documentation I
have seen that might be from the famly themselves. This may be the way they
spelled it. But on his WWI draft registration, he himself signed his name as
Lindsey, the standard spelling of the name.

I have not been able to find a census listing for Lindsey in 1910. By
September 1918, Lindsey and Tillie are living in De Baca County, New Mexico,
where he registered for the World War I draft.

World War I Draft Registration Cards, 1917-1918

Birth 22 May 1875 [place of birth not stated on this form]

Nearest Relative, May Tilley Mullins, Ritchey, De Baca, New Mexico
Registration 12 Sept 1918 in De Baca, New
Signed Lindsey Car [sic] Mullins

Note that the name Lindsey gives for his wife here is May Tilley Mullins.
Family information from the compilation of Mike Taylor reports her name as
Susie Tilley Gordon Mullins. This is the name Mike reports from Oklahoma
marriage records. We saw in the 1900 census that Tillie was reported as
TIllie S. This also occurs in 1930. In 1920, the census records Lindsey and
his family in Richey.

Looking at the ages and birth dates of the children, we can tell they moved to
New Mexico between 1922 and 1925. In 1930, we find Lindsey and Tillie in
Castro County, Texas. Here Tillie is reported as Tillie S, perhaps
representing the other name Susie, under which her marriage is reported as
noted above. this must mean her name was May Tillie Susie (Susan?) Gordon.

From the birth ages and states of the children we can conclude that Lindsey
and Tillie moved from New Mexico to Texas after 1922. But it is hard with
only this evidence to be any more precise. One genealogy provides the place
of death of Lindsey, though it provides no documentation for this information.

Notes for Margaret A MULLINS

I have some question about the identity of Nancy A and Margaret A. These
entries come from a One World Tree (anonymous ) which gives the same year of
birth for both. A second source in Ancestry.com Personal Trees, cites the
first source for the birth date, and adds death dates. The dates are again
questionable because the second source gives the same death date, 1896, for
both women!

Notes for Margaret P MULLINS

The date of birth given for Margaret P Mullins in a seemingly reliable
genealogy in in Ancestry World Tree is Feb 1875. However, this date matches
the birth date given in the 1900 census for the person named Amelia. I would
have thought this Amelia was was Minty A, rather than Margaret P, but there is
a two-year discrepancy. Further, I found Mintie in Whitfield County, Gerogia,
working as a houskeeper in the home of Sterling and Harriett Collum, with age
and birth date that match previous reports of Mintie. Mintie is lsited in teh
1910 census as Mintie Ann, and is living with her widowed father Lafayette.
They are the olny two persons in the household. So it appears that by age 37,
Mintie had not married. The genealogy provides a date of month with month and
year for Minty A as Jul 1872. The age of 25 in 1900 matches Margaret P
Mullins at age 5 in the 1880 census. So the name Amelia of 1900 seems to
refer to the same person as Margaret P in 1880. Thus I am assigning the birth
date of Feb 1875, as the Ancestry World Tree genealogy does.
