A family genealogy reports the date of death as 17 November 1967, two days
later than the date on Social Security records. Perhaps the genealogy date is
the date of burial. The genealogy also reports the place of death as Tulsa,
which is likely. Catoosa was the residence, as reported on the Social
Security records. He was probably in a hospital in Tulsa when he died.

Charles Henry
Marriage bond of $1250 signed by Charles Henry and O G Hill
Marriage 28 Sep 1920 Cocke County, Tennessee, USA
Ceremony performed by Oscar O Neil, JP
Recorded in Cocke County Marriage Book, p 353

There are two similar marriage records for two different young women named
Cynthia Strange, both of whom married a Charles Henry. Birth dates and other
records are found mixed for these two in various genealogies. Since the
daughter of Porter Strange and Sarah Hale here was still in her parents' home
in 1920, the marriage in 1918 was for a different Cynthia Strange, who would
be the daughter of John W Strange and Mary Ann Beeson.

This marriage was in the neighboring county of Cocke, where many Stranges and
related families went to be married. That marriage was also corroborated by a
WWI draft registration by Cthat harlie Henry of Dandridge (Jefferson County)
later in 1918, which reported the wife of Charles as Sinth Henry. This
registraton record also enabled us to differentiate the two Charles Henrys,
finding that the birth date on the registration card also different from the
birth date of the Chalres Henry buried in Hills Union Cemetery.

The difference in marriage years distinguishes these two young women. Porter
and Sarah's daughter is additionally distinguished by the report in the 1900
census of her as Cynthia E Strange. We have not clarified the two Chalres
Henrys.

All four of these individuals were born very close t the same time. Absolute
birth dates are unclear. One birth date has been reported for Cynthia,
daughter of Porter and Sarah, as 16 June 1899. But there is northing clearly
documenting this as the daughter of Porter and Sarah. What brought this
confusion to light was that the same birth date appeared for both these
Cynthias, in the course of finding the two similar marriage records.

There are missing pieces that cause uncertainty. Daughters named Cynthia or
similar are definitely found for two different Strange families, and the
deatilas available on the daughter of Robert and Mary Ann and her spouse are
indeterminate. It is odd that no separate censues have been found for two
different couples. The 1930 census is unheloful, since the ages don't match
this couple's other records, but we do not have exact dates on the other
couple to indicate that it is them either.

We do have the second marriage record which is definitely two years after the
other and other records matching both that fit these timelines.

The folloiwng 1930 census is the only one found for these nmaes. It is near
Dandridge, buit the Civil District is reported as District 3, rhather than 8,
as in 1910, 1020 and 1940. The ages aare also out of sync with other records.
the age of Siunth being reported as 2 years older than expected form other
records. But thie age at first marriage for them matches the year of the
marriage in September 1920. It appeatrs the enumerator reversed their
reported ages. But the age at marriage matches their marriage in September
1920.

couple are following the Henry line and have no parents for Cynthia Strange to
help determine which is which. The dates on her joint tombstone with her
husband Charles Henry are sometimes reported by genealogies for the other
Chalres and Cynthia Henry of about the same age.

Notes for Cynthia STRANGE

I have not found much information about Cynthia. She appears to have been the
youngest child in her family. One Rogers family genealogy that includes the
Henry and Henderson lines reports some basic information about her, including
her marriage to Charles Henry. This and some other genealogies have mixed
records form two different couple with the same names, born about the same
times. A careful review of the records has helped us sort a bit to
distinguish the two couples.

The Cynthia Strange in our record here married Charlie Henry in Cocke County
in Cocke County in 1918, while a related Cynthia Strange who was born 16 June
1899 did not marry until 1920, also to a Charles Henry. All four of these
individuals were born about the same time, and records have been confused in
various incomplete genealogies and others that copied data form them without
documentation or care. One even has both marriage recordds attached to the
same peron. I have found only one burial, which is for the couple who married
in 1920. The birth date in the Wiebe genealogy is also fomr the grave for the
other Charles Henry.

There are two marriage records, one in Jefferson County, in 1918 for Cynthia
Strange and Charlie Henry and another for Cynthia Strange and Charles/Chas
Henry in Cocke County. Members of this Strange family have marriages in both
of these counties. They lived near the county line between the two counties.

This appears to be two different couple with the same names. I have very
little information on this Cynthia Strange, and less on either of the Charles
Henrys. It could be for some reason these are the same couple, but for some
reason two marriage records 2 years apart. for which I cannot account. But
the two Cynthias seem to be daughters of two different related Strange
families.

The draft registration report of Sinth Henry as the wife of Charlie Henry
matches the firs marriage record in February 1918 for Charlie Henry and
Cynthia Strange. The second marriage of Charles (also referred to in the
license as Chas) Henry to Cynthia Strange in 1920 in Cocke County, Tennessee
seems thus to be a different couple. Records appear to be mixed in some
genealogies. At least one, the Rogers genealogy, actually attaches both the
see marriage records to the same couple, reporting no parents for Cynthia.
The genealogy makes no comments on the two marriage records two years apart!

Both marriage records are reported here for comparison and reference. One was
married in 1918 in a ceremony in Jefferson County, their county of resience.

The other Cynthia Strange, daughter of Porter and Sarah Strange, was still
single and in her parents' home for the 1920 census. the marriage in 1918 was
for the Cynthia who was the daughter of Since they were married in 1918, the
1920 marriage record, in neighboring Cocke County, where many residents of the
area went to get married, would be for Porter and Sarah's daughter. The 1918
record, then is for the daughter of John and Mary Ann (Beeson) Strange and a
different Charlie Henry.

This latter are the couple that are buried in HIlls Union, reported on find a
Grave. Several other members of this Cynthia's immediate family, including
her father and motehr, are buried here. The burials and their dates are
sometiems reported by genealogies for the other coule, who apparently lived in
Danderisge.

One or more genealogies reports Daniel's middle name as Taft, matching Daniel
T in the 1930 census.

Daniel Taft Strange (no vitals)
Father: William H. STRANGE b: 2 FEB 1842 in Jefferson County, Tennessee
Mother: Edith Jane EDMONDS b: 5 AUG 1845 in Jefferson County, Tennessee
Spouse Hester Woods (no vitals)

In the 1920 census for this family, there is a son matching Daniel in age,
reported as 11 years old. But the child is listed as Bernet (Burnett?). I
cannot match this with anyone but Daniel, since the child should have been
reported in the census, and there is no Daniel in the 1920 census. But this
brings into question the census report that his name is Dan T and the
genealogy report of his name as Daniel Taft. Perhaps he was named Daniel
Burnett Taft Strange?

Strange, Dacas E Dau W F Oct 1888 11 Single TN TN TN

In the 1910 census there is no daughter named Dacas. But there is a daughter
named Dacas E. The initial E could be for Ethel. The birth date reported in
1900 for Dacas is October 1888, while an early family genealogy, World Family
Tree Vol. 14, Pedigree #2932, adds the day, reporting Ethel born 29 October
1888.

It seems then that Dacas E and Ethel M are the same child. The 1910 census
reports her as Ethel M. The only attestation I have seen of the middle
initial M is in her husband's WWI draft registratoin, where she is nakmed as
Ethelmae Wright. In her later Delayed Birth Certificate it is clarified that
her first name was Doras. No other name with a M is given. She is Dorcas
Ethel Strange Wright.
