The name of Frances Strange first appears in the census in 1850, the first year the names of all household members were reported. 1850 Federal Census, Chattooga County, Georgia, 9 September, Summerville District, page 738 (scan p 267), Hse/Fam #1 A B Strange 41 M Farmer SC [born abt 1809] Mary Strange 40 F SC [born abt 1810] Francis J Strange 15 F SC [born abt 1835] Notice that her name is spelled in the form we now normally use for males named Francis. This makes it appear that the name for him in 1900, Leonodus, was meant to represent Leonardus, the full original form of Leonard. This could be his actual formal name. Note that Ida is missing. In connection with this, we see that Hanna Katherine has had 5 more children since 1900, but only 3 more total are living. It appears from this census that Ida is one of the children who has died. However, the Edmonds/Strange Genealogy reports that she lived until 1956. Ida Jane Strange 1894 - 1956 She must have married at age 15 or 16. Other new children in this census are Lucile, Clarence and Fred Jr. That means there are two other child born since 1900 that has also died in the meantime, which these records do not tell us about. The Edmonds/Strange Family Genealogy reports the names of two additional children, twins born and died in 1903: Andy Strange 1903 - 1903 Ann Strange 1903 - 1903 But this genealogy also reports a total of 14 children born before 1910, but the 1910 census reports only 9 children born up to that time. Either this genealogy or the census number of children is wrong. The genealogy provides some family information, but is not very carefully reviewed or documented. It has a duplication of Fred Jr, and Lola is entered a second time as Lela. So the total is 12, still 3 children more than the census reported. A family genealogy reports that Frederick I Strange Sr is buried in the Strange Cemetery on Muddy Hollow Road, off Rainwater School Road in south Jefferson County, Tennessee.
There is a George and a John in almost every family in every generation in this LeStrange line. The name William becomes more important later.

Eli 1904 1964 8 James 1907 1923 Notes (a & b): 1900 Census for Lizzy Strange, Mother, listed 4 born & 3 living children. I am inclined to believe that Gracie died prior to census and Luther afterwards. That would account for the 4 born and 3 living notation. -- Wayne Strange, email to Orville Boyd Jenkins, 5 May 2016 ------------- With the same dates and first place of birth matching Gracie in the list above, the Edmonds/Strange genealogy reports the first child as Porter Hank Strange Birth 5 OCT 1893 Death 24 JAN 1899 Parents: William Mack Strange Birth 7 APR 1870 Jefferson County, Tennessee, Death 12 OCT 1922 Jefferson County, Tennessee Eliza Ann Hobart Birth 29 AUG 1873 Tennessee, Death 2 FEB 1911 Siblings: Oscar Mitchell Strange 1895-1960 Sarah Ellen Strange 1898- Luther R Strange 1900- George Roy Strange 1900- Harley William Roscoe Strange 1902-1903 Eli Strange 1904-1964 James M Strange 1907-1923 -- Edmonds/Strange, http://person.ancestry.com/tree/921352/person/-870938784/facts?ftm=1 A memorial is found for this burial with the same dates and the name P Hauk Strange.
