This includes his middle name, but the name is spelled Erwin, or in one case Ervin, rather than Irwin, which we would expect from the consistent census records. The Beam genealogy is one of these. This tree provides exact birth and death dates and places. But it reports Robert was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina, instead of Georgia, as all the censuses, and several other genealogies. It is interesting that all the genealogies that have this detailed information report Spartanburg as the birth place, while those that lack the dates and name of the wife report his birthplace as Summerville, Chattooga County (Chattooga), Georgia. In WWII he was a building contractor, building the barracks and hangers for Edwards A.F.B. In Calif. When that was finished, in 9-1945 relocated to Casa Grande, Arizona and began building house after house, street after street of houses for soldiers coming home with no place to live. In 1951 he also ventured into the custom farming operation and had state wide hauling permits in Arizona and Colorado where his men cut grain in the valleys of Arizona and the grain growing counties of Colorado. By chance in 1958 he went on vacation to Oklahoma to visit a friend and fell in love with a registered running quarterhorse ranch. Which he bought. Returning to Arizona he retired from building contracting and moved to his ranch in Shawnee, Oklahoma. There he began breeding, training, & racing his horses at Louisiana Downs, Ruidoso N.M. And Turf Paradise in Phoenix, plus many other horse racing tracks. He also went back to his veterinarian past and was even offered a teaching job at the veterinarian college at Stillwater, OK. -- Elisa J Strange-Von Rice, email to Orville Boyd Jenkins, 16 December 2008 ============================================================

In earlier censuses I was able to determine that there was a daughter, but had not found a name until 25 April 2007. I found what appears to be this daughter in the listing for Sarah Allen and her five children in the 1850 census, where she is apparently a widow, reported living with her parents James age 63 and Sarah Strange age 60. 1850 Federal Census, 23 Oct, Jefferson County, Tennessee, District 13, page 138, Hse #960, Fam #994 Sarah Allen, age 28, born in Tennessee Sarah Allen, age 8, born in Tennessee Rebecca June Allen, age 6, born in Tennessee Also living in their house, numbered as part of Sarah Allen's household are two children named Mills James Mills, age 12, born in Tennessee Joseph Allen, age 4, born in Tennessee It is not clear exactly what relationship these two children with the surname of Mills have with Sarah Allen or the Strange family. This census did not report the relationship of other members of the household to the head of the household. I note that one of the Mills boys, Joseph, is reported as the same age as age 4, the same age as Sarah's son James. This makes it questionable that Sarah Allen would also be the Mills boys' mother. James Mills is 12, but the oldest Allen child is Sarah, age 8, who would have been born when mother Sarah was 20 years old.

Sarah is married to Anderson Edmonds, who is listed in the census by his initials, as are all members of the family. 1860 Federal Census, Jefferson County, Tennessee, 7 September, page 334 Hse #2361, Family #2404 A Edmonds 22 M Laborer $50 Personal Estate TN S E Edmonds 20 F TN J E Edmonds 2 M TN C S Edmonds 8mos F TN In 1870, the household matching this family lacks Anderson, and the mother of the children is reported as Mary J instead of Sarah E. The absence of Anderson is matched in the 1880 census where Sarah is reported as a widow. This Mary in 1870 may be some other individual, and the age is the same as Sarah's in 1860. But I have not been able to identify any other family to match this household, and cannot account for a Mary as head of this househoild. The children match the family of Anderson and Sarah Strange. The last child Maston is William Maston, and is reported in different records variously under the first or middle name. 1870 Federal Census, Jefferson County, Tennessee, 22 July, Civil District 3, PO Dandridge, page 6, Hse/Fam #41 Edmonds, Mary J 20 F W Keeps House No Real Estate or Personal Estate Rptd b TN Edmonds, James 12 M W b TN - page 7 - Edmonds, Leana 10 F W born TN Edmonds, Brice 7 M W b TN Edmonds, Maston 6 M W b TN In 1880 Sarah is reported as a widow head of household, with three children at home with her on the farm. From the ages of the children we can determine within a few months when Sarah's husband Anderson Edmonds died [or possibly is missing for other reasons]. The child Sarah is reported as 9 years old, and not reported in the 1870 census, so she was born sometime after June (1880 census date) in 1870. Her father is not reported in the 1870 census, so he had to die before July 1870. His death had to be nine months of less before 1 July, because Sarah was born after the census date in 1870. No death or burial information has been found for Sarah's husband. Edmonds researcher Shirley believes that though Sarah is reported as a widow, Brice Anderson did not die, but moved away and later married someone else. Documentation for this scenario is also elusive. "I'm looking for help with his [William Maston Edmond's] father, Brice Anderson Edmonds, last seen in Jefferson in 1865 when signing affidavit in support of Anne EDMONDS Phillips' application for widow's benefits for late husband Jeremiah.
