Several genealogies of different lineages report detailed information on
Robert and his family that appears to include information from family sources.
This includes his middle name, but the name is spelled Erwin, or in one case
Ervin, rather than Irwin, which we would expect from the consistent census
records. The Beam genealogy is one of these. This tree provides exact birth
and death dates and places. But it reports Robert was born in Spartanburg,
South Carolina, instead of Georgia, as all the censuses, and several other
genealogies. It is interesting that all the genealogies that have this
detailed information report Spartanburg as the birth place, while those that
lack the dates and name of the wife report his birthplace as Summerville,
Chattooga County (Chattooga), Georgia.

Next I found the 1920 census, where for the first time, Robert's middle
initial is an E. He has now moved west to Johnson County, Texas, south of Ft
Worth, and is the city marshall of Burleson. The only child remaining in the
home is Joshua. Here Robert now reports his mother as born in South Carolina,
as her earlier censuses had indicated.

Notes for Rufus Morgan STRANGE

Rufus M shows up in the 1860 census as a child, age 8, of William Strange. He
is listed there as R M. In 1870 he is listed as Rufus M, age 17. One
genealogy appears to report family knowledge, though no documentation or Notes
are provided. This gives us Rufus' middle name of Morgan. Few other family
details are provided.

We know her maiden name was Thursa Rianhart, because her brother Richard
Rianhart, age 27, is living with them. Thursa and Rufus have one child Mary
C, born one month before the census.

We also see for the first time in this census the name of a brother of Rufus,
Nicholas, age 23. This matches the child known to the Green-Gregory family in
Oklahoma by the name Nick.

Thirza died and Rufus remamarried. Zack Taylor provided information on the
second marriage, to Nancy Hale in 1890.

Other has the middle initial of A and is reported now as a son and male.

The name of the daughter before William G here seems to be Annis, but that
seems oddly close to Annie. One genealogy reports her name as Ammie Jane.
This is closer to the 1900 census which had Ama.

Family information reports Willam was born in Wichita Falls, Texas, after the
family arrived there in 1906. But he is reported here as born in Alabama, and
only his younger brother as born in Texas.

Dekalb Co., Al. John b. Nixon and son John B. Nixon, Jr and William Berry
Strange were all Baptist ministers.......

Bert William Garland Strange was a veterinarian for the King Ranches in his
young years in Texas, then went into private practice.

In WWII he was a building contractor, building the barracks and hangers for
Edwards A.F.B. In Calif.

When that was finished, in 9-1945 relocated to Casa Grande, Arizona and began
building house after house, street after street of houses for soldiers coming
home with no place to live. In 1951 he also ventured into the custom farming
operation and had state wide hauling permits in Arizona and Colorado where his
men cut grain in the valleys of Arizona and the grain growing counties of
Colorado.

By chance in 1958 he went on vacation to Oklahoma to visit a friend and fell
in love with a registered running quarterhorse ranch. Which he bought.

Returning to Arizona he retired from building contracting and moved to his
ranch in Shawnee, Oklahoma. There he began breeding, training, & racing his
horses at Louisiana Downs, Ruidoso N.M. And Turf Paradise in Phoenix, plus
many other horse racing tracks.

He also went back to his veterinarian past and was even offered a teaching job
at the veterinarian college at Stillwater, OK.

Notes for Sarah STRANGE

In earlier censuses I was able to determine that there was a daughter, but had
not found a name until 25 April 2007.

I found what appears to be this daughter in the listing for Sarah Allen and
her five children in the 1850 census, where she is apparently a widow,
reported living with her parents James age 63 and Sarah Strange age 60.

1850 Federal Census, 23 Oct, Jefferson County, Tennessee, District 13, page
138, Hse #960, Fam #994
Sarah Allen, age 28, born in Tennessee
Sarah Allen, age 8, born in Tennessee
Rebecca June Allen, age 6, born in Tennessee

Also living in their house, numbered as part of Sarah Allen's household are
two children named Mills
James Mills, age 12, born in Tennessee
Joseph Allen, age 4, born in Tennessee

It is not clear exactly what relationship these two children with the surname
of Mills have with Sarah Allen or the Strange family.

This census did not report the relationship of other members of the household
to the head of the household. I note that one of the Mills boys, Joseph, is
reported as the same age as age 4, the same age as Sarah's son James.

This makes it questionable that Sarah Allen would also be the Mills boys'
mother. James Mills is 12, but the oldest Allen child is Sarah, age 8, who
would have been born when mother Sarah was 20 years old.

Marriage 25 Feb 1857 Jefferson County, Tennessee

In 1860 Sarah and her husband are living next door to her parents James M and
Susannah Strange. Her husband's name we learn from a Strange family genealogy
in World Family Tree, Pedigree 2932. Sarah is married to Anderson Edmonds,
who is listed in the census by his initials, as are all members of the family.

In 1870, the household matching this family lacks Anderson, and the mother of
the children is reported as Mary J instead of Sarah E. The absence of
Anderson is matched in the 1880 census where Sarah is reported as a widow.
This Mary in 1870 may be some other individual, and the age is the same as
Sarah's in 1860. But I have not been able to identify any other family to
match this household, and cannot account for a Mary as head of this
househoild. The children match the family of Anderson and Sarah Strange. The
last child Maston is William Maston, and is reported in different records
variously under the first or middle name.

In 1880 Sarah is reported as a widow head of household, with three children at
home with her on the farm. From the ages of the children we can determine
within a few months when Sarah's husband Anderson Edmonds died [or possibly is
missing for other reasons]. The child Sarah is reported as 9 years old, and
not reported in the 1870 census, so she was born sometime after June (1880
census date) in 1870. Her father is not reported in the 1870 census, so he
had to die before July 1870. His death had to be nine months of less before 1
July, because Sarah was born after the census date in 1870.

No death or burial information has been found for Sarah's husband. Edmonds
researcher Shirley believes that though Sarah is reported as a widow, Brice
Anderson did not die, but moved away and later married someone else.
Documentation for this scenario is also elusive.

"I'm looking for help with his [William Maston Edmond's] father, Brice
Anderson Edmonds, last seen in Jefferson in 1865 when signing affidavit in
support of Anne EDMONDS Phillips' application for widow's benefits for late
husband Jeremiah. I'm trying to prove he didn't die in Jefferson but next
appears in 1873 in Hamilton marrying Margaret Shipley. Last seen on 1900
census. All help appreciated. Thanks. Shirley SSBOSCO@AOL.COM"

Wayne O Strange, "Sara A (Alla?), was known to me as Aunt 'Elle'"
-- Wayne Strange, email to Orville Boyd Jenkins, 5 May 2016

At least one genealogy identifies Sara (Sarah) as Sarah Ellen, with no source
documentation, even to state family sources. This matches the nickname Ellie
reported by nephew Wayne Strange, and matches her mother's middle name. No
documentation of the name has been found.

"Sarah 'Alla' Strange, sister to Oscar M Strange, most probably had the middle
name of 'Ellen.' Aunt 'Ellie' was the name used by myself and siblings.
Sarah 'Ellen' Strange married a brother of my mother, Grace Ellen Rinehart. I
do not know his name, except that he was usually referred to as 'Laws' or
'Loss.' Aunt Ellie' and husband moved to Gaston County, NC, where they lived
for most of their remaining lives."

Randy Winch, in his Proffitt genealogy, reports this person as Sarah E Strange.

In followup correspondence I got the following additional information from
Paul McDaniel.

"Senter's daughter, Mary Francis, was my grandmother. My mom said that her
birthday was October 12, 1914 She was said to have 3 brothers; Floyd,
Preston, and Gene. Mary died on April 10, 1987. She married William Jackson
somewhere around 1929 and had 10 children, one of which was stillborn (no name
given). The children were William Jr., Vivian Louise, Ronald Elwin, Robert
Eugene (passed away 6/27/2012) , Janet Marie (my mother), Raymond Francis,
Karen Jean, Bernice Lynn, Cheryl Ann, and Shelley Ruth."
-- Paul McDaniel, email to Orville Boyd Jenkins, 24 July 2012

I have not yet found the 1930 census. Lula died in 1923. Senter moved with
some or all of his children to Cleveland, Ohio, sometime at least before 1939,
when his son Paul (Eugene) was married in Cleveland to a local girl, Doris
Van Horn.

In the 1940 census, Senter appears with his second wife Aileen.

This man is Senter. I personally knew his second wife Alene (not sure spelled
correct). His son, Alfred married a lady named Frances. We have been friends
for 53 years. Frances and I. My husband's mother was a Strange. Mae Strange
married to Mack Edmonds. We finally found the connection.

The middle initial L in the 1870 census record may be for her nickname Lula.
Her full name was Tallulah Ann. I have not discovered another full name
starting with a L. Her name as reported in her father's obituary was Lula
