There are two children reported with the name William for this family. William

Floyd in 1910 matches William F in 1900. In 1920, he is reported as Floid W,
just reversing the names. In 1930 when he is married, he is reported as
Willie F.

By 1920, William has remarried, to 28-year-old Bessie T. Their marriage
record in 1914 reports her name as Bessie Hahn. The census ages indicate that
William was about 20 years older than Bessie.

In this census there are also two grandsons reported in the household, but I
cannot identify them. William Floyd is his oldest son, and is only 21 and
unmarried in this 1920 census. If the enumerator is correct in recording that
their last name is Strange, I cannot tell who their father was. Perhaps one
of his older daughters married a man also named Strange.

In the 1930 census, William's 3rd wife Elsie was married for the first time at
age 35, or 3 years before. This means that they married in about 1927. This
enables us to say that wife #2 Bessie T died before 1927. This is confirmed
when we found the marriage certificate, dated 6 August 1927.

We first find William Henderson in Missouri in the 1880 census. But this

From the 1920 census in Jefferson County, Tennessee, we learn more about the
family of William Edith. First off, her proper name is confirmed as Edith,
which we would expect from the name Edie used in the 1910 census and a family
genealogy.

I notice here that both parents of William are said to have been born in
Tennessee. In 1880, we are told that his mother was born in Virginia. I
found it odd and suspicious that every single person and both parents of
everyone on this page of the census for Jefferson County, Tennessee, was
reported as born in Tennessee.

In this census, next door to William and Edith are William's single brother
and their mother Mary F Palmer Strange, now a widow. Three doors down on the
other side are the Phillips family, Elmer and Martha and their children.
Their daughter Daisy (Daisy Evelyn) married Carl. This was probably before
the end of 1920. I do not have the exact date from any source.

James M matches the child listed as Murphy in the 1920 census in Jefferson
County. Now we know his name is James Murphy. Note that James is reported as
married, and not as a widower, but his wife is not in the household. I don't
know what this means.

Additional children are named in some genealogies.

not survived. My grandmother Juanita made hand written notes which I posted on
the Winch genealogy site. Unfortunately there were wrong names. I was given

I am seeking information on my great great grandmother, Edith Jane (Edy)
Edmonds born in 1848 and died 1929. She was married to Rev. William Henry
Strange of Jefferson County, Tennessee. I think that her parents may have been
Cam/Cameron and Katherine Hall. That is all of the information that i have on
her parents. Would love to get past this wall and continue finding more
relatives. I do have a list of Edy and William's children if anyone out there
is looking for this information. I would be happy to exchange. Thanks, Sue

Note that in Sue's tentative comments here about Edith's parents, she has
mistaken the name of Katherine Hall for Edith's mother. Katherine, or
Catherine, was only 7 years older than Edith and was Cam's second wife. She
appears in the 1860 census with the family. for more on Edith's family see

William became a preacher, but the censuses always report his occupation as

In 1870, William and his household are living next door to his father James M.

"I am the sole surviving child, born 1933, of Oscar M. Strange and Grace Ellen

George, written in 1946 or so, gave some insight to their childhood
experiences. A son of George Strange gave me a copy of the letter and that
helped to get me started on my research."
...
A cousin, who died several years ago, gave a handwritten list of births and

After comparing the list with census information, I believe the information to
be accurate.

notation.

first name. Note also that now Luther does not appear. This child, born in
January 1900, would have been 10 in January 1910. But I see there is a
10--year-old in the 1910 census, only his name is George. This makes it seem
that George is the same child as Luther R. Combine Luther R and George would
make an awkward name. But it appears the best solution, given no further
details.

1920 Federal Census, Jefferson County, Tennessee, 8 January, Civil District 8,
Enumeration District: 78, page 1B, Hse/Fam #12
Strange, Mack Head Owns M W 55 Married TN TN TN Farmer
Strange, Mamina F W 45 Married TN TN TN
Strange, Mitchel Son M W 23 Married TN TN TN Farm Laborer
Strange, Gracie Daughter[-in-law] F W 20 Married TN TN TN
Strange, Alla (?) Daughter F W 21 Single TN TN TN Farm Laborer
Strange, George Son M W 19 Single TN TN TN Farm Laborer
Strange, Eligh Son M W 14 Single TN TN TN Farm Laborer
Strange, Jimmy Son M W 12 Single TN TN TN Farm Laborer

The name following Gracie appears to be Alla. Alla matches the child
previously reported as Sarah A. Perhaps the name was meant to be Ella, which
would match the 1910 census name of Sarah E. Mamina is Mack's second wife.
Eliza died in 1911, according to her grave memorial on Find a Grave. The
memorial does not include a photo of the gravestone. No marriage record has
been found for this second wife, nor any further records.
