Dr George William Turner Birth Nov. 15, 1833 Monroe County, Missouri Death Sep. 27, 1915 Gainesville, Cooke County, Texas A doctor in Gainsville, TX. **Note: George's tombstone reports the birth date of Nov. 3, while his son's family Bible sugests Nov. 15; his tombstone also reports a conflicting date of death. It's appearance suggests it was placed many years after his death, possibly 50 years later based on the style, and could explain the date discrepancies. George was the son of Richard D. Turner & Margret Turner. He died at the age of 81 years at #7 Cloud Street, Gainsville, TX, from paralysis, which had lasted for 5 months. The informant on the death certificate was R. H. Turner. He may be the son of John H. Turner. There are conflilcting dates for George's death; his death certificate shows a death and burial date of Sept. 29, 1915. His obituary says he died on the 28th and he was buried on the 29th. [And the memorial here has a third date of death as 27 Sept] George married Sarah Frances Goodnight (buried at Union Hill); they had the following children: Mary Margret Turner Goolsby, Franklin Pierce Turner, Martha Jane Turner Truitt, Victoria Isabell Turner Miller, Turissa Georgia Ann Turner (buried at Union Hill), Richard Edward Turner, David William Turner, and Marcus Lafayette Turner. The 1860 state census listing only heads of households, as in the format of the earlier federal censuses before 1850, list Hugh, but gives only a total of male and female persons in the households. In the 1870 census Nancy and Hugh appear with many more children born since the 1850 census. One Gregory individual born in South Carolina was reported under a name not appearing in previous censuses. Andrew Gregory was enumerated in the household of Nancy and Hugh's son Marion Gregory and his wife. This household is on the same page as Marion's parents. Several sons of Hugh Gregory reported in 1850 appear under the same name in 1870. Reported on this same page with their father were Marion, Starks, Henry and Simpson, who matches Charles S in 1850. In addition, a William of a age to be a brother, appears on the next page with his wife Francis. This name did not appear in 1850 and all 1850 names are accounted for. Hilliard died at age 12 in 1858. Andrew on this page is an additional name not found or matched in 1850. He is reported age 24, which would mean he was born in about 1846, so he may be a cousin who moved to Mississippi with them. 1870 Federal Census, Itawamba County, Mississippi, 28 August, Township 8, P O Fulton, page 14, Hse/Fam#90 Gregory, Marion 27 M W Farmer $0 Real Estate Value $0 Personal b South Carolina [son of Hugh] Gregory, Ellen 20 F W Keeping House b Mississippi Gregory, Andrew 24 M W Farm Laborer $0 Real Estate Value $125 b South Carolina [unidentified] -- Fam # 88 -- Duvall, Anna 42 F W Keeping House $300 Real Estate Value $0 Personal b Alabama Gregory, Starks 23 M W Farm Laborer b Mississippi [son of Hugh] Duvall, Mary 19 F W At Home b Mississippi Duvall, Paddy 4mos F W At Home b Mississippi born Feb -- Fam # 89 -- Gregory, Hugh 55 M W Farmer $0 Real Estate Value $0 Personal b South Carolina Gregory, Nancy 45 F W Keeping House b South Carolina Gregory, Henry 26 M W Farm Laborer b Mississippi [b abt 1844] Gregory, Simpson 20 M W Farm Laborer b Mississippi [b abt 1850] Gregory, Mary 18 F W At Home b Mississippi Gregory, Nancy 16 F W At Home b Mississippi Gregory, George 14 M W Farm Laborer b Mississippi Gregory, Hugh (Twin) 12 M W Farm Laborer b Mississippi Gregory, Susan (Twin) 12 F W At Home b Mississippi Gregory, Alice 9 F W At Home b Mississippi Gregory, Antonette 7 M W At Home b Mississippi In 1880, Nancy was enumerated as Mary.
